2、 SCOPE 1.1 Scope. This specification contains requirements and provides quality assurance provisions for the loading, assembling and packing of the M702A1 Ignition Cartridge for the Light Weight Company Mortar System. 2. In the event

9、 of a conflict between the text of this specification and the references cited herein, the test of this specification will take precedence. 3 . REQUIREMENTS 3.1 Material. Materials shall be in accordance with 3.2 Assembly. The ignition .cartridge assembly and components applicable drawings and speci

10、fications. shall comply with all requirements specified on Drawing (dwg) 12630941 and with all requirements specified in applicable specifications, associated drawings and standards. 3.3 Moisture content of black powder. The moisture content of the black powder used in loading the ignition cartridge

11、, at the time of loadinq, shall not exceed 0.50 percent. Testing shall be as specified in-4.5.1. 2 Provided by IHSNot for ResaleNo reproduction or networking permitted without license from IHS-,-,-3.4 Sensitivity. 3.4.1 Nonfunctioning. The primer shall not function under an applied energy value of 8

12、.85 inch ounces minimum (min.) when tested as specified in 4.5.2.1. 3.4.2 Functioninq. The primer shall function under an applied energy value of 82.60 inch ounces maximum (max.) when tested as specified in 4.5.2.2. 3.4.3 Safety drop test. The primer shall not function as a result of the five foot c

13、artridge drop specified in 4.5.2.3. 3.4.4 Cartridqe drop test. The primer shall function when tested as specified in 4.5.2.4. 3.5 Leak test. The loaded cartridges shall satisfactorily pass the leak test specified in 4.5.3. 3.6 Velocity, functioninq and security (proving -qround test). The ignition c

14、artridges shall comply with the following requirements (see 4.5.5) . 3.6.1 Misfires. The ignition cartridges shall function on 3.6.2 Metal part security. There shall be no evidence of the first attempt, without any audible hangf ire . rupture or metal parts separation in the gun bore or in flight. 3

15、.6.3 Velocity and functioning (proving ground). The cartridge assemblies shall function and shall impart a corrected muzzle velocity of not more than 219 feet per second (fps) and not less than 199 fps. In addition, the velocity standard deviation of the lot shall be not greater than 4.0 fps. 3.7 Pr

16、opellant charqe uniformity. The M9 propellant lots shall achieve a velocity of 210 fps (see 4.5.6). This test shall be required when a lapse of six months or more occurs between propellant acceptance and LAP initiation. 3.8 Static pressure. The average internal ignition cartridge pressure plus 4 sta

17、ndard deviations shall not exceed 22,000 psi (see 4.5,7) . 3.9 First article inspection. This specification contains technical provisions for first article inspection. 18、for the submission of first article samples by the contractor shall be as specified in the contract. 3.10 Workmanshie. All parts and assemblies shall be fabricated and loaded in a thorough workmanlike manner. They shall be free of burrs, sharp edges, cracks, dirt, rust and other foreign matter. The

19、cleaning method used shall not be injurious to any part nor shall parts be contaminated by the cleaning agent. All required markings shall be neat and sharply defined. 4. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS 4.1 Responsibility for inspection and standard quality assurance provisions. Unless otherwise specif

20、ied herein or in the contract, the provisions of MIL-A-48078 shall apply and are hereby made a part of this detail specification. 4.2 Classification of inspections. The following types of inspection shall be conducted on this item: a. First Article inspection b. Quality Conformance Inspection 4.3 Fi

21、rst article inspection 4.3.1 Submission. The contractor shall submit a first article sample as designated by the contracting officer for evaltiation in accordance with provisions of 4.3.2. The first article sample shall consist of the components in the quantities indicated in Table I. 4.3.2 Inspecti

22、on to be performed. See MIL-A-48078 and Table 4.3.3 Rejection. Inspection lots shall comply with the lot formation p

24、rovisions of MIL-A-48078. In addition, each inspection lot of ignition cartridges shall contain: a. Metal parts of one lot interfix from one manufacturer. b. Black powder from not more than one lot from one manufacturer. C. Percussion elements from not more than one lot interfix from one manufacture

25、r. d. M9 propellant from not more than one lot from one manufacturer. e. Tubing from not more than one manufacturer or manufacturer part number. f. Adhesive sealant from one manufacturer. 4.4.2 Examination. See MIL-A-48078. Unless otherwise specified in the Classification of Defects and Test Tables,

Beginning with the first lot produced and continuing until three consecutive lots have complied with the applicable requirements specif iedf the sampling plan and procedure fo

30、r this test shall be in accordance with MIL-STD-414, Section BI Table B-3, Code letter M and AQL of 1.0 percent. In addition, if the velocity standard deviation of the sample exceeds the lot requirement, the lot shall be rejected. If any round fails to function for reasons attributable to ignition c

31、artridge failure or if a metal parts separation occurs, the lot shall be rejected. This test shall be performed as specified in 4.5.5. 4.4.3.3.2 Velocity, functioninq and security. After three consecutive lots have met the criteria of 4.4.3.3.1, the sampling plan for this test shall be in accordance

32、 with MIL-STD-414, Section B, Table B-3, code letter I, using an AQL of 1.0 percent. In addition, if the velocity standard deviation of the sample exceeds the applicable lot requirement the lot shall. be rejected. If any round fails to function for reasons attributable to ignition cartridge failure,

33、 or if a metal parts separation occurs, the lot shall be rejected. If a lot is rejected, revert to sampling plan per paragraph 4.4.3.3.1. This test shall be performed as specified in 4.5.5. M3 5 M3 5 - 4.4.3.4 Check test for deterioration of primer, percussion primer lot and the assembly of that lot

34、 into the ignition cartridge exceeds two years, or if the M35 primers have been subjected to adverse conditions for any period of time since previous test, the M35 primer lot shall be subjected to and must satisfactorily pass the check test for deterioration specified in MIL-P-46425 immediately befo

35、re the M35 primer lot is assembled into the ignition cartridges. . If the total elapsed time between original acceptance of the 4.4.3.5 Static pressure. The M9 propellant lot shall be tested as specified in 4.5.7. One hundred (100) ignition cartridges shall be loaded at the assessed charge weight wi

36、th M9 propellant randomly selected from the propellant lot. If the average ignition cartridge pressure exceeds the specified requirement the representative lot of M9 propellant shall be withheld and referred to ARDCf Dover, New Jersey (AMSMC-QAT-B). 4.4.4 Inspection equipment. The inspection equipme

37、nt required to perform the examinations and test prescribed herein is described in the Paragraph Reference/Inspection Method column in the tables starting with paragraph 4.4.2.1. 38、-MIL-C-48654 (AR) submit for approval inspection equipment designs in accordance with the terms of the contract. See Section 6 of MIL-A-48078 and 6.3 herein. 4.5 Methods of inspection 4.5.1 Moisture content of black powder. The moisture content of black powder shall be determined in accordance with

39、the procedure specified in MIL-P-223. The samples shall be randomly selected from each eight hours production. Any failure to comply with the applicable. requirement shall be cause for rejection of the eight hours production represented by the sample. If loading has begun, ignition cartridges loaded

40、 with the non-conforming black powder shall be rejected. 4.5.2 Sensitivity 4.5.2.1 Nonfunctioninq. The primer head shall be assembled to a suitable fixture. The firing pin of the test fixture shall be adjusted so that impact will be on the center of the firing plug of the primer. A weight of 2.95 po

41、unds, minimum, shall be cfropped on to the firing pin from a height of 3/16 inch, minimum, as if to function the primer. The height of drop shall be measured as the height from the top of the firing pin to the bottom of the weight. Any primer which functions shall be classed defective. Primers used

42、in this test shall not be returned to the lot . 4.5,2.2 Functioninq. The primer head shall be assembled to an appropriate test fixture. The firing pin of the test fixture shall be adjusted so that impact will be 0.05 inch off center of the firing plug of the primer. A weight of 2.95 pound, maximum,

43、shall be dropped on the firing pin to function the primer from a height of 1 3/4 inches, maximum. measured as the height from the top of the firing pin to the bottom of the weight. Any primer that fails to function shall be classed defective. The height of drop shall be 4.5.2.3 Safety drop test. The

44、 test assemblies shall be assembled into inert-loaded, standard 60mm cartridges. Each cartridge shall be dropped twice from a height of five feet on an anvil top surface. For the first drop, the cartridge shall be in the base (fin) down orientation. For the second drop, the cartridge shall be in the

45、 nose (fuze) down orientation. The drop height shall be measured from the lowest point of the cartridge orientation to the ground. 46、lassed defective. All questionable test assemblies shall be downloaded to verify primer/black powder pellet functioning or non-functioning. All components used or this test shall not be returned to their-respective lots. 4.5.2.4 Cartridge drop test. The test assemblies shall be assembled into inert-

47、loaded, standard 60mm cartridges. The twenty-five test cartridges less propelling charges shall be dropped into a standard 60mm mortar at an elevation of forty-five degrees. Any test assembly which fails to function shall be classed defective. All questionable test assemblies shall be downloaded to

48、verify primer/black powder functioning or non-functioning. All components used for this test shall not be returned to their respective lots. 4.5.3 Leak test. The ignition cartridges shall be tested 100% in accordance with drawing 9278622. Any ignition cartridge which fails to comply with the applica

49、ble requirement shall be classed defective and removed from the lot. 4.5.4 Weiqht of propellant. The sample cartrige assemblies shall be cut open using any method that will not generate chips and all propellant removed and placed on the pan of a precision analytical balance. The weight of propellant from each sample shall be determined to the nearest 0.01 grain. 4.5
