This specification covers the requirements and c; quality assurance provisions for loading, assembling and packing of the Cartridge, 60m, TP, M50A3. 2. APPLICABLE DOCUMENTS 2.1 Government documents. 2.1.1 Specifications and standa

In the event of conflict between the text of this specification and the reference cited herein (except for associated detail specifi

11、cations, specification sheets or MS standards) , the text of this Specification shall take precedence, Nothing in this specification, however, shall supersede applicable laws and regulations unless a specific exemption has been obtained. 3, REQUIREMENTS 3.1 Materials. Materials shall be in accordanc

12、e with the applicable drawings and specifications, and this specification. 3.2 Cartridqe. The cartridge shall comply with all requirements specified on drawing (dwg.) 9220383 and with all requirements specified in applicable specifications. 13、ing permitted without license from IHS-,-,-MIL-C-48697 (AR) 3.3 Ballistic performance (provinq qround) . The cartridges shall comply with the requirements (see 4.4.3.2). 3.3.1 Misfires. The cartridges shall not fail to fire from the weapon . 3.3.2 Premature functioninq. There shall be no premature f

14、unctioning in the mortar -tube or within 100 meters travel from the mor tar tube. 3.3.3 Functioninq. There shall be visible evidence of functioning upon impact as indicated by the presence of a flash or smoke cloud to its maximum range (see 6.5). 3.3.4 Metal parts separation. There shall be no metal

15、 parts separation in the mortar tube or in flight. 3.3.5 Ranqe precision. The horizontal range standard deviation shall be no greater than 18.0 meters when fired at charge zero and no greater than 43.0 meters when fired at charge four . 3.3.5.1 Short rounds. No cartridge shall have a horizontal rang

16、e less than 80 percent of the average horizontal range when calculated without the short rounds. 3.4 First article. When specified in the contract or purchase order, a sample shall be subjected to first article inspection in accordance with the technical provisions herein. (See 4.3 and 6.1). entire

17、minimum length or depth. No part may have a burr which might interfere with the assembly or function of the round or which might be injurious to personnel handling the item. All parts shall be free of chips or foreign matter. The cleaning method used shall not be injurious to any of the parts, nor s

18、hall the parts be contaminated with residue. All required markings shall be neat and sharply defined. 3.5 Workmanship. Threads shall be full and undamaged for the 4. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS 4.1 Responsibility for inspection. Unless otherwise specified in the contract or purchase order, the cont

19、ractor is responsible for the performance of all inspection requirements as specified herein. The Government reserves the right to perform any of the inspections set forth in the specification where such insp

21、ections are deemed necessary to assure supplies and services conform to prescribed requirements. Unless otherwise specified herein or in the contract, the provisions of MIL-A-48078 shall apply and are hereby made a part of this detail specification. 4.1.1 Responsibility or compliance. All items must

22、 meet all requirements of section 3 and 5. The inspection set forth in this specification shall become a part of the contractors overall inspection system or quality program. The absence of any inspection requirements in the specification shall not relieve the contractor of the responsibility of ass

23、uring that all products or supplies submitted to the Government for acceptance comply ,with all requirements of the contract. Sampling in quality conformance does not authorize submission of known defective material, either indicated or actual, nor does it commit the Government to acceptance of defe

24、ct ive ma ter ia1 . 4.2 Classification of inspections. The following types of inspection shall be conducted on this item: a. First Article Inspection b. Quality Conformance Inspection 4.3 First article inspection 4.3.1 Submission. The contractor shall submit a first article sample as designated by t

25、he Contracting Officer for evaluation in accordance with provision of 4.3.2. The first article sample shall consist of the items as required per Table I. 4.3.2 Inspections to be performed. 27、nce inspection 4.4.1 Inspection lot formation. Inspection lots shall comply with the lot formation provisions of MIL-A-48078. In addition, inspection lots of Cartridges shall contain: a. Metal parts and metal parts assemblies of one lot interfix from one manufacturer. b. Ignition cartridges of one l

28、ot interfix from one manufacturer. c. Fin assemblies of one lot interfix from one manu ac t ur er d. Loaded primers of one lot interfix from one manufacturer. e. Propellant increments made from one lot of propellant from one manufacturer. f. Fuzes of one lot interfix from one manufacturer. g. Pellet

29、s (black powder) of one lot interfix from one manufacturer. 4.4.2 Examination. See MIL-A-48078. After three consecutive lots have complied with the acceptance requirements the production lot sample (48) shall be separated into two groups; one group tested at charge zero, and one gro

32、up tested at charge four. The cartridge shall be fired from a standard 60MM LWCMS M224 (or equivalent ballistic tube) mortar at an elevation of forty-five degrees from a ground mount within two minutes after removal from the conditioning chamber. All fuzes shall be set to Superquick (SQ) functioning

33、. The individual velocities, pressures, deflections, and ranges shall be recorded on the firing record. Observation shall be made for misfires and improper impact functioning (duds or no evidence of flash or smoke), and shall be recorded. Should a premature burst or metal parts separation occur, a p

34、hotograph shall be taken of the evidence and attached to the firing record. The velocity and range standard deviations and arithmetic averages shall be calculated and recorded. probable error shall be calculated and recorded. Temperature of the day, weather and the time of firing shall also be recor

In these events, an an

36、alysis should be made of the radar data and should be noted on the firing record. This shall include a comparison of times of flight of the unobserved rounds with that of the normal rounds. Prints of the radar traces of these rounds, and prints of the preceding and succeeding rounds, shall be attach

37、ed to the firing record. Data from ballistically acceptable lots may be discarded . A smear camera shall be used to photograph all test samples. The camera shall be positioned to pick up each round just outside the second velocity coil. Should an unobserved dud, short round or any other abnormal per

38、formance occur, a photo print of these rounds, and prints of all the other rounds in that particular charge zone, shall be attached to the firing record. Film from acceptable lots may be discarded. 4.5.1.1 Test validity. If for any reason the proving ground personnel considers that the test conditio

39、ns have detrimentally affected the test result, the test results shall be declared invalid and a new test shall be performed on additional sample cartridges. 5. PACKAGING 5.1: Unit packaginq. 5.1.1 Level A. Packaging shall be as specified on drawing (dwg.) 9220014. 5.1.2 Level B. Not applicable. 5.1

45、gewood Arsenal, Frankford Arsenal, Rock Island Arsenal or Picatinny Arsenal drawings. Technical data originally prepared by these activities is now under the cognizance of ARDEC. 6.5. Impact functioning. The cartridges shall function with sufficient fragmentation of the projectile to adequately give
