19、nt shall take precedence. 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.1 Standard sample. - Unless otherwise specified (see 6.2), a standard sample and/or production plate shall be furnished. furnished, the standard sample shall be used for color and finish only. When no production plate is furnished, the standard samples sha

20、ll be used as a model in addition to establishing the color and finish. 22、actor in the same facilities to be used for the manufacture of the production items. - 3.3 Material. - Materials shall conform to the referenced specification and the requirements specified herein. 3.3.1 Brass. - 3.3.1.1 Castings. - Brass for castings shall conform to the chemical composition of all

23、oys Nos. A3 or A4 of QQ-C-390 for brass finished end items and Alloys A3, B2 or B5 of QQ-C-390 for Chrome or Gold plated end items. 3.3.1.2 Forgings. - Brass for forgings shall conform to Alloy 377 of QQ-B-626. 3.3,1.3 Machined parts. - The brass used for machine parts shall conform to chemical Allo

24、y 360 of specification QQ-B-626. 3.3.2 Wood. - At the time of milling, all wood for the flagstaffs and acorns shall have been aged a minimum of six months (or the kiln-dried equivalent) and shall have a moisture content of 8 to 12 percent when tested in accordance with 4.4.1. The.wood shall be free

25、from checks, splits, crook, and torn or raised grain or any other defect which may affect appearance and serviceability. Unsaponifiable matter, 3.3.6 Glue. - 3.3.6.1 Nonwaterproof glue. - Glue for nonwaterproof service

30、rking lye, setting properties. 3.3.6.2 Waterproof glue. - Giue for marine service shall conform to grade A or B of MIL-A-22397, except that the following characteristics shall not apply: Liquid working life, cleanability, adhesive spread, or storage life. 3.3.7 Varnish. - 3.3.7.1 Shore service varni

31、sh. - Varnish for on-shore service shall conform to TT-V-121, except that the following characteristics shall not apply: to touch, dry hard, free from tack, viscosity, flash point, skinning, and odor. Set 3.3.8 Steel. - The steel for the bumper clamp clank bolts and bumper bolt shall be any CRQQ or

34、er shall be clear and shall conform to TT-L-32. 3.3.12 Sterling silver. - The sterling silver shall be not less than 92.5 percent pure silver. 3.4 Construction. - Flagstaff, flagstaff heads, trucks, ferrules, and couplings shall be constructed in accordance with the applicable drawings and the requi

35、rements specified herein. Unless otlierwise specified herein, staffs shall be made from the types of hardwood specified in 3.3.2. shall be turned.and sanded smooth. bow or-croole exceeding 1/32 inch per foot. mounting couplings, ferrules, trucks or flagstaff heads, the holes shall be- drilled to the

37、Jointed flagstaffs, after assembly, shall be straight throughout, end to end. turned, etc. to the specified dimensions so that all flagstaff component parts can be joined to produce a smoothly finished connection without misalignment or gaps exceeding 1/32“. Metal couplings of the jointed flagstaffs

38、 shall be a force fit, as well, to eliminate looseness within the couplings when the flagstaff is shaken after assembly. All metal fittings and wood tenons of the flagstaffs shall be milled, Metal forgings and castings shall have smooth surfaces and shall be free of any gouge, scratch, scuff, machin

39、e mark, pit, crack, porosity or other impairment. All edges shall be smooth and free of burrs and slivers. 3.4.1 Type I. - 3.4.1.1 Component A. - Staffs shall be constructed in a.ccordance with drawings B-7-19, B-7-20,.and B-7-21. The upper and lower ferrules, coupling and mounting screws shall be m

40、ade from brass specified in 3.3.1 and shall have a polished gold plated finish. coated with primers specified in 3.3.4 and given 2 coats of enamel specified in 3.3.5. In addition, after enameling the wood portions of the staff it shall have a hand rubbed enamel finish (see 3.5.4). The wood portion o

T

45、he base and couplings shall be fabricated from brass specified in 3.3.1 and shall have a mirror-like polished and lacqu- ered finish. Prior to mounting of the base and couplings, the wood portion of the staff shall be varnished in accordance with 3.5.3. Mounting screws and spacers shall be fabricate

46、d from commercial brass and shall be finished to match the couplings. 3.4.4.1.1 Assembly. - Metal components shall be assembled to the wooden sections of the staff in accordance with Drawing B-7-12 and the requirements specified herein. The brass spacer shall be placed in a 1/4 inch diameter hole dr

47、illed through the tenon in the location specified on the drawing. Locktite Adhesive 324 and Locktite Activator 707, or equal, shall be applied to the flagstaff tenon (milled end) and the inside of the metal components respectively. The metal components shall be mounted with the countersunk holes in

48、the side walls in line with the brass spacer in the staff. brass screw shall then be coated with a one-step Locktite Adhesive, or equal, , and tightened into the brass spacer. The - 3.4.4.2 Component B. - Flagstaff head (Battleaxe) shall be constructed from brass specified in 3.3.1 in accordance wit

49、h Drawing B-7-8 and shall have a mirror-like polished and lacquered finish. ordered as a separate item, two 117 oval head 3/8 inch long mounting screws shall be furnished with the flagstaff head.
