SCOPE 1.1 Scope, This specification covers the general requirements for the branch of service insignia, metal rank insignia, garrison cap insignia and

5、service cap insignia for Army and Air Force ROTC and JROTC personnel. 1.2 Classification. The zinc aluminum alloy used for die casting shall conform to alloy AG4OA or AC41A or QQ-Z-363. 3.5.2 Silver for plating. The silver for plating shall be not less than 99.5 percent fine. 3.

25、5.3 Solder. Solder shall be a silver alloy having a melting point of not less thanxdegrees F. 3.5.4 Lacquer. Lacquer shall be a pale clear synthetic lacquer. The use of pigmented lacquers shall not be permitted. 3.5.5 Vitreous enamel. Vitreous enamel shall be a hard, glass type enamel fused with met

Rivets used for attaching superimpo

38、sed device to the front of the base shall be solid or tubular and shall be made from any type brass. 39、be 3.8.2 Prong and clutch type. Prongs and clutches shall conform to the details and dimensions shown on Drawing B-13-12. Unless otherwise specified, the prongs shall be soldered or fused in the location specified on the applicable specification sheet. Unless otherwise specified, the prongs shall be

40、 made from nickel silver specified in 3.5.1 and shall be 5/16 inch plus or minus 1/64 inch in length. Clutches shall be made from any type brass. When tested as specified in 4.6.2 and 4.6.12, it shall not be possible to remove the clutch by hand without first depressing the release wings. 3.8.3 Scre

41、w post and thumb nut. The screwpost and thumb nut shall conform to the details and dimensions shown on figure 2. The screw post shall be soldered or fused in the location specified in the applicable specification sheet. When tested as specified in 4.6.9 the thumb nut shall not bind on the thread. Th

42、e screwpost and thumb nut shall be made from free cutting brass. 3.8.4 Registering prong. The registering prong shall be made from nickel silver specified in 3.5.1 and shall conform to the details and dimensions specified on figure 2. specified on the applicable specification sheet. in 4.6.3 and 4.6

Unless otherwise specified, the front and edges (surfaces visible from the front) shall be finished as specified on the applicable specif

44、ication sheet and shall match the color and finish of the standard sample (see 3.3) or the approved guide sample (see 3.4). Where plating or oxidizing is specified the entire item (front, back and edges) except for the attaching devices, shall be plated or oxidized as applicable. Unless otherwise sp

45、ecified on the applicable specification sheet the backs of all oxidized items shall be clean. items, except gold or rhodium plated items shall be completely coated with lacquer specified in 3.5.4. The finish for molded plastic backing plates shall be smooth and the beveled sections shall have a high

46、 uniform luster as provided by the molding. A high luster is not required for other areas. (When the term %leanf1 is used, the referenced areas need not be free from oxidization. However, any oxidization remaining must have a consistent uniform shade and texture). In addition to the finish specified

The dry lacquer film shall be continuous, level, adherent and free from lint, dust or other foreign

48、matter. When tested as specified in 4.6.4.1, there shall be no change in appearance on the face of the item except a slight overall yellowing around the highlights. When tested as specified in 4.6.4.2, the tissue paper shall not adhere to the insignia when the pressure is released. 3.9.2 Silver plat

49、ing. Silver plating shall be accomplished by electroplating methods using the silver specified in 3.5.2. Prior to plating, the surface to be plated shall be cleaned of all matter which would affect the plating. Copper based alloy items shall be hot nickel underplated, a minimum of 0.00025 inch thick. nickel underplating shall be optional. underplated. The silver plating shall be a minimum of 0.0003 inch thick and shall be smooth, fine grained, adherent
