The nylon coated cloth shall confo
12、rm to MIL-C-43906. the warp direction, shall be wound (heavier coated side outward) on a cylin- derical core, The core shall be 1 inch irr diameter by 6 inches in length and shall be made of wood, paperboard tubing, or other suitable core stock. , One piece, 6 2 1/4 inches wide by 6 1: 1/8 yards in
13、length, cut in 3.2.2 or equal cans con Adhesive. (see 6.3). The adhesive shall be a polyurethane type, Durance No. 8541 The adhesive shall be unit packed in two hal-pint round fbrming to type V, class 2, No. 50 or No. 50/25 tin-plate of PPP-C-96. The friction plugs shall be securely closed and each
14、container shall be marked with .the ward tADHESIVE“, and “Date of Manufacture (Month, Year)“, in charac- .ters 5/16 inch high, minimum. The age of the adhesive at tune if delivery of the maintenance kits to the government shall not exceed two months. If the contractor proposes to furnish an adhesive
15、 considered to be equal to the adhe- sive specified, the contractor shall first furnish a halfpint of the adhesive, with physical property data, to the contracting officer for subsequent evaluation by the responsible military agency. 3.2.3 Toluene (cleaning solvent). The toluene shall conform to TT-
16、T-548. The toluene shall be unit packedin a one-point square can conforming to type V, class 4, No. 25 or No. 50/25 tin-plate of PPP-C-96. The container shall be clearly labeled on the broad face of the can with the following, in letters 5/16 inch high minimum: “TOLUENE - CLEANING SOLVENT WARNING: A
17、void prolonged or repeated contact with skin Avoid breathing of vapors Flammable I 3.2.4 Brushes. The brushes shall conform to type II, class 1, size 2 of H-B-643, an elastic band. The polyethylene sheet shall conform to type I, The sheet shall be folded in half twice, once 3.2.6 Talcing bag. One ounce minimum of the compound specified in 3.2.6.1 shall be placed in th
19、e center of a one foot square or diameter piece of the cloth specified in 3.2.6.2. all sides to form a pouch which shall then be securely closed with a 1/8 inch wide elastic band located approximately three inches from the bottom of the bag. The talc-mica compound shall conform to MIL-C-5024 or shall be pow
21、dered mica, no coarser in fineness than number 160 mesh. 3.2.6.2 Cloth, muslin, cotton, The muslin cloth shall conform to type III, class 2 of CCC-C-446. 3.2.7 Roller, wood. The roller shall be 1-1/2 2 1/8 inches in diameter by 4 2 1/4 inches in length and shall be made from any species of wood. rol

Avoid prolonged contact of adhesive and of cleaning solvent on skin. c. Use with adequate ventilation. d. Adhesive and toluene
27、 cleaning solvent are flammable. Keep from heat and open flame. e. Close can of adhesive tightly and immediately after appication. f. Store kit in cool place, g. Avoid working under dusty conditions; dust may inactivate adhesiye .L coated surf aces. h. USE NO ADHESIVE OTHER THAN FROM THIS KIT. (Many
28、 other adhesives stick well when patched garment is dry, but stick poorly when patched garment gets wet). 2. GENERAL PROCEDURE In brief, the repair consists of (a) cleaning the area. to be repaired, (b) applying adhesive to patch and to the work, (c) allowing adhesive onboth to dry about an hour, an
29、d (d) pressing patch in place. 3. DETAILED PROCEDURE a. PREPARE PATCHES (1) Cut a piece of the patching fabric from the kit. (2) Make it large enough to provide all the patches that will be needed that day. (3) Clean the lighter coated side (duller and less smooth) by wiping with paper towels wet (b
30、ut not dripping) with toluene solvent. Allow to dry. .- (4) Stir the adhesive and apply to the cleaned side of the piece, Spread rapidly with a minimum of strokes. Overlap strokes as little as possible, (When a large piece of fabric is being coated a paint brush may be used or two or three kit brush

This may take an hour, but might be as little as 20 minutes on warm dry
32、 days. .d (6) Cut patches in the required sizes and shapes as needed (generally rectangular). Round off corners. The patch should cover the damage and extend into the surrounding area of the garment about 3/4 inch in all directions. (7) These adhesive-coated patches may then be applied in the subseq
33、uent patching procedures at any time during the rest of the day. NOTE: When making one patch only, proceed as above except apply the.adhesive after the one patch is cut. Hold the patch down with the point of a small stick, pencil, or other similar device and apply the adhesive by brushing outwards f
34、rom the center of the patch all around. PREPARE PUNCTURED, TORN, OR WORN AREA (1) If heavily soiled, pre-clean the damaged area. If area is wetted with water or other cleaning fluid, dry thoroughly. (2) Trim off any badly frayed or curled edges. (3) Spread out the garment area to be patched on a fla
35、t work surface. (4) When the hole to be patched is wide or where there is a large porous area to be patched, slip the polyethylene film (from the kit) under the garment layer to be patched. from messing up the-garment and work surface. This will help keep the adhesive (5) Wipe the area to be patched
36、, using a toluene wetted cloth or paper towel. Dry. (6) Using the patch from 3.a. above as a template, place it in what will be its final position on the torn area, and make a tracing along its border. Use a No. 2 or softer pencil for tracing. (7) Remove the patch and apply one even coat of the adhe

PATCH ASSEMBLY (1) Carefully set the patch from 3.a. exactly on the marked prepared area in 3.b. and press together firmly. (2) Roll the patch with heavy hand pressure using roller provided in the kit then dust the p
39、atched area using the talcing bag furnished with the kit. (3) The garment may be worn immediately. storage or shipment, allow one hour drying under good ventilation to dissipate solvents completely. If it is to be packed for 3.3 Adhesive performance. The adhesive shall have a minimum peel strength o
40、f 6 pounds per inch dry and 4 pounds per inch wet when tested as specified in 4.3.1.1. 3.4 Workmanship. The maintenance kits shall confQrm to the quality of pro- duct established by this document. The occurrence of defects shall not exceed the applicable acceptable quality levels. 3.5 Toxic products
41、 and frmulations, The materials used shall have no adverse effect on the health of personnel when used for its intended purpose. Questions pertinent to its effect shall be referred by the procuring activity to the appropriate departmental medical service who will act as an advisor to the procuring a
42、ctivity. 4. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS 4.1 Responsibility for inspection. Unless otherwise specified in the contract or purchase order, the contractor is responsible for the performance of .all inspection requirements as specified herein. Except as otherwise specified in the contract or purchase o
43、rder, the contractor may use his own or any other facilities suitable for the performance of the inspection require- ments specified herein, unless disapprovedby the Government. The Government reserves the right to perform any of the inspections set forth in the document where such inspections are d
44、eemed necessary to assure supplies and services conform to prescribed requirements. 4.1.1 Certificate of compliance. Where certificates of compliance are sub- mitted, the Government reserves the right to check test such items to deter- mine the validity of the certification. 4.2 Toxicological data a
45、pd formulations. 46、n. Unless otherwise specified, sampling for inspection shall be performed in accordance with MIL-STD-105. 4.3.1 Component and material inspection, In accordance with 4.1 above, components and materials shall be inspected in accordance with all the requirements of referenced documents unless otherwis
47、e excluded, amended, modified or qualified in this document or applicable purchase document 4.3.1.1 Testing of adhesive. Testing of the adhesive component shall be performed as specified in4.4 for conformance to the adhesive performance requirement specified in 3.3. The lot shall consist of adhesive
48、 made in one batch by the adhesive contractor, i.e., adhesive that was manufactured all at one time. The sample unit shall be one half-pint of adhesive. The sample size shall be five. The performance requirement shall be applicable to each sample unit. There shall be no evidence of failure of any sa
49、mple unit to meet the requirement specified in 3.3. 4.3.1.1.1 Certification. The contractor shall furnish a certificate of compliance certifying that each lot of adhesive consists of adhesive made in one batch by the adhesivescontractor that the adhesive is Durane No. 8541 or equal; and that the adhesive is not more than two months old at time of delivery to the Government. + 4.3.2 Visual examination.
