This specification covers one type of waterproof gun-firing relay assembly with a nominal rating of 24 volts circuits of military combat vehicles. The assembly consists of

3、 relays which control the firing of the main gun by the operation of a time delay circuit and a separate fast-operating, fast-release relay which controls the firing of the machine gun (see 6.1). direct current (dc) for use in the main gun and machine gun 2. 10、icable laws and regulations unless a specific exemption has been obtained. 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.1 First article. When specified (see 6.2), a sample shall be subjected to first article inspection in accordance with 4.3. 3.2 Desien materials. and manufiu%ring process. Unless otherwise specified (see 6.2)

11、, the design, materials, and manufhcturing process selection is the prerogative of the contractor as long as ali articles submited to the government fully meet the interface and interoperability, environmental, support and ownership, and operating requirements specified herein. 3.2.1 Recycled. recov

12、erd or environmentallv preferable materials. Recycled, recovered, or environmentally preferable materials should be used to the maximum extent possible provided that the materia meets or exceeds the operational and maintenance requirements, and promotes economically advantageous life cycle costs. 3.

13、3 Interface and interoperabiity requirements. The relay assembly shall conform to the envelope dimensions, and the electrical and mounting interfaces as shown in Drawing 8338636. 3.3.1 Grounding. The nish around the mounting holes shaU provide positive electrical contact to ground when the assembly

14、is normally mounted. The maximum weight of the re

15、lay assembly shall be four pounds (lb). 3.3.3 Mounting bracket. When brackets are used, they shall be an integral part of the housing or shall be securely attached thereto, in a manner to prevent any movement between assembly and the mounting bracket in service. 3.3.4 Polarity. The relay assembly sh

16、all operate in a circuit having the negative battery terminal grounded. 3.4 Environmental requirements. The design, materials, and construction of relay assembly shal enable the unit to operate in the following environmental conditions The relay assembly shall subsequently meet the requirements spec

17、ified in 3.6.1, 3.6.4, 3.6.5, 3.6.7, and 3.6.8. 3.4.1 Vibration. The relay assembly shall evidence no mechanical or electrical malfnction (opening or closing of relay contacts). 3.4.2 Shock. The relay assembly shall evidence no mechanical or electrical malfunction (opening or closing of relay contac

18、ts). 3.4.3 Corrosion. Metals shall be of a corrosion-resistant type or shall be treated to resist corrosion. The relay shali evidence no corrosion. 3.4.4 Waterproofness. The relay assembly shall be waterproof 3.5 Suoprt and ownership requirements. 3.5.1 Materials. The relay assembly shall not produc

19、e any hazards to personnel or the environment resulting from the use of asbestos or cadmium. 3.5.1.1. Dissimilar metals. Except where necessary to complete an electrical circuit, there shall be no contact between dissimilar metals, which would encourage galvanic action. 3.5.2 Springs. Springs shall

20、not be used to transmit current. 3.5.3 Endurance. The relay assembly shall remain mechanically and electrically operative and the voltage drop across the main gun and machine gun relay contacts carrying rated current, shall not exceed the limits specified in 3.6.7. Exterior sudiices of the relay assembly housing shall be white. 3.5.5 Ident

22、ification marking. Identification marking shall be permanent and legible and, as a minimum, shall include the following: a. ?Relay assembly: gun-firing? b. ?24 Vdc waterproof? c. Military Part Number (Pl?) (see 6.2) d. Manufacturer?s name e. Manufacturer?s serial number (if applicable) f. Date of ma

23、nufixture (month, year) 3.6 ODerating reauirements. 3.6.1 Time delav. The relay shall provide a time delay (time the main gun-firing relay contacts are closed) between O. 10 and 0.50 seconds throughout the operating voltage range of 18 to 30 Vdc. The relay assembly shall subsequently meet the requir

24、ements specified in 3.5.3 and 3.6.2 through 3.6.8. 3.6.2 Operating current. When the main gun relay is energized, the operating current shall not be more than 0.35 amperes (A). 3.6.3 Dielectric strength. The relay assembly shall evidence no loosening, cracking, burning, smoking, rupturing or any oth

25、er damage to the insulation. It shall subsequently meet the requirements of 3.6.1, 3.6.4, 3.6.5, and 3.6.7. 3.6.4 Pick-up voltme. The pick-up voltage of the machine gun relay shall not exceed 18 Vdc when tested for ten cycles (deenergize and energize). 3.6.5 Drop-out voltwe. The drop-out voltage of

26、the machine gun relay shall be between 1.5 and 8 Vdc. 3.6.6 Coil current. The coil current of the machine gun relay shall be not more than 0.35 k 3.6.7 Contact voltaae drop. Unless otherwise specified (see 6.2), the voltage drop across external tenninals of the main gun and machine gun relay assembl

27、ies, shall not exceed individual reading of 175 millivolts (mv) or an average of 150 mV before cycling and individual reading of not more than 200 mV or an average of 175 mV after cycling tests. 3.6.8 Extreme temperature operation. Extreme temperatures shall not be detrimentai to the performance of

The inspection requirements specified herein are classified as follows: a. First article inspection (see 4.3). b. Conformance inspections (see 4.4). c. Con

30、trol tests (see 4.5). 4.2 Insoection conditions. Unless otherwise specified (see 6.2), all inspections shall be conducted under the following conditions: a. Air temperature: 77 15 degrees Fahrenheit (“F). b. Barometric pressure: 28.5 (+ 2, - 3) inches of mercury c. Relative humidity: 50 30 percent (

31、%). 4.3 First article inspection. Unless otherwise specified (see 6.2), five relay assemblies shaii be utilized for first article testing (see table I). The relay assemblies shd be representative of the units proposed to be funiished under the contract. First article inspection shall be done in the

The types of verification methods included in this section are visual inspection, measurement, sample tests, full-scale demonstration tests, simul

41、ation, modeiiig, engineering evaluation, component properties analysis, and similarity to previously-approved or previously-qualified designs. 4.6.1 Verification alternatives. The mandadurer may propose alternative test methods, techniques, or equipment, including the application of statistical proc

42、ess control, tool control, or cost-effective sampling procedures, to verify performance. 4.7 Interface and interoperability verification. After each of the following environmental tests, the relay assembly shall be subjected to the tests specified in 4.10.1,4.10.4,4.10.5, and 4.10.7, except for contr

44、ol tests which shall be conducted only at a temperature of 77 15F. 4.8.1 Vibration. To determine conformance to 3.4.1, the relay assembly (rigidly mounted without brackets or shock absorbers) shall be subjected to a simple harmonic motion having an amplitude of 0.03 inch (i.) (0.06 in. maximum total

45、 incursion), the fiequency being varied uniformly between the approximate limits of 10 to 55 Hertz (Hz). The entire Cequency range, from 10 to 55 Hz, shall be traversed in approximately one minute. This motion shall be applied for a period of one hour along each of three mutually perpendicular direc

46、tions. Pins E and G of the machine gun relay coil shall be connected to 28.5 Vdc power source for half of the time. To detede electrical malfunction of the relay assembly, contact opening or closing shall be monitored between pins A and D of relay assembly. 4.8.2 Shock. To determine conformance to 3

47、.4.2, the relay assembly (rigidly mounted without brackets or shock absorbers) shall be exposed to a hahine wave shock impulse of 25 & 3 gravity units for 6 to 9 milliseconds (ms) duration (see figure 1). The shock impulse shall be applied dong three mutually perpendicular axes. This test shall be c

48、onducted once in energized position and once in deenergize position of the relay assembly.
