2、cies of the Department of Defense, 1. SCOPE 1.1 Scope. This specification covers the requirements of one type of survival vest in two sizes. 1.2 Classification. The survival vest shall be of the following sizes as specified (see 6.2): Large Small 2. APPLICABLE DOCUMENTS I - 2.1 Government documents.

REQUIREMENTS 3.1 First a

18、rticle. When specified (see 6.21, a sample shall be subjected to first article inspection (see 6.3) in accordance with 4.3. 3.2 Matertals. Construction of the vest shall conform to the requirements specified herein and on Drawing 11-1-1795 as applicabl

20、e. 3.3.1.1 Type 301 stitching. Stitching defects, such as skipped or broken stitches and runoffs, shall be overstitched not less than 1 inch past ends of the defect in accordance with the required stitch pattern. Stitching shall be backstitched 1/2 inch minimum at the ends, except where ends are tur

21、ned under in a hem or held down by other stitching. Thread tension shall be maintained so that there will be no loose stitching and the lock will be imbedded in the materials sewed. All thread ends shall be trimmed. 3.3.1.2 Automatic stitching. Automatic stitching machines may be used to perform any

22、 of the required stitch patterns provided the requirements for the stitch pattern, stitches per inch, and size and type of thread are met, and at least three or more tying, overlapping or back stitches are used to secure the ends of the stitching. Certification of equivalency, supported by engineeri

23、ng data may be required. 3.3.1.3 Setting of grommets. Holes shall be prepunched or drilled to receive the grommets. Holes prepunched to receive the grommets shall be smaller than the outside diameter of the grommet barrel so that the barrel must be forced through the hole. The grommet shall be secur

24、ely clinched without cutting the adjacent material. 3.3.1.4 Setting of snap fasteners. A hole shall be prepunched or drilled to The hole shall receive the button and eyelet components of the snap fasteners-. be smaller than the outside diameter of the button and eyelet barrels so that the barrel mus

25、t be forced through the hole. The hole shall not be punched in the setting operation with the button or eyelet barrel. The fasteners shall be securely clinched without cutting the adjacent materials and no more than three splits shall occur in the button or eyelet barrels. 3.3.1.5 Thread ends. All t

26、hread ends shall be trimmed to a maximum length of 1/4 inch. 3.4 Contents and assembly of components. The vest shall be comprised of the contents specified in table I. Each component shall conform to the applicable ._ specification cited therein, or as otherwise specified. In assembling components o

27、f the vest, each vest shall include the items listed in table I except for items 11, 12, 13, and 14 (see note 2 to table I). Unless otherwise specified by the contracting officer (see 6.21, the vest components shall have been manufactured within one year prior to the date of deli

34、very. 3.6 Workmanship. The finished vest shall be clean and free of all loose thread, lint, and any other foreign matter; shall not contain any unspecified hole, abraded area, tear, cut, mend, needle chew, spots or stains and shall conform to the quality of product established by this specification.

35、 4. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS 4.1 Responsibility for inspection. Unless otherwise specified in-the contract or purchase order, the contractor is responsible for the performance of all inspection requirements (examinations and tests) as specified herein. Except as otherwise specified in the contra

36、ct or purchase order, the contractor may use his own or any other facilities suitable for the performance of the inspection requirements specified herein, unless disapproved by the Government. The Government reserves the right to perform any of the inspections set forth in this specification where s

All item

38、s shall meet all requirements of sections 3 and 5. The inspection set forth in this specification shall become a part of the contractors overall inspection system or quality program. The absence of any inspection requirements in the specification shall not relieve the contractor of the responsibilit

39、y of ensuring that all products or supplies submitted to the Government for acceptance comply with all requirements of the contract. Sampling inspection, as part o manufacturing operations, is an acceptable practice to ascertain conformance to requirements, however, this does not authorize submissio

40、n of known defective material, either indicated or actual, nor does it commit the Government to accept defective material. 4.1.2 Responsibility for dimensional requirements. Unless otherwise specified in the contract or purchase ordell, the contractor is responsible for ensuring that all specified d

41、imensions have been met. When dimensions cannot be examined on the end item, inspection shall be made at any point, or at all points in the manufacturing process necessary to ensure cornpliance with all dimensional requirements. 4.2 Classification of inspections. The inspection requirements specifie

42、d herein are classified as follows: a. b. Quality conformance inspection (see 4.q). First article inspection (see 4.3). 4.3 First article inspection. When a first article is required (see 3.1 and 6.21, it shall be examined for the defects specified in 4.4.3, 4.4.4, 4.4.4.1 and 4.4.4.2. firsh article

Unless otherwise specified, sampling for inspection shall be performed in accordance with MIL-STD-105. 4.4.1 Component and material inspection. In accordance with 4.1, components and materials shall

44、be inspected in accordance with all the requirements of referenced documents unless otherwise excluded, amended, modified, or qualified in this specification or applicable purchase document. .4.2 In-process inspection. Inspecbion shall be made at any point or during phase of the manufacturing operat

45、ion to determine whether cut lengths, cut ts, markings for location of components, and location of assembledcomponent parts are in accordance with the specified requirements. In addition,:. r inspection shall be made to determine that prepunched holes for receirrting grommets, and snap fasteners, ar

46、e smaller than the outside diameter of %he hardware barrel. Whenever nonconformance 2s noted, corrections shall be made to the parts affected and the lot in process.
