20、.1 Materials. Materials shall be as speci- fied herein and as shown on the applicable drawings in 2,l. Material not definitely speci- fied shall be of standard commercial quality for this type of equipment. 3.1.1 Steel. 3.1.1.1 Plates, sheet and sbrip. Steel used in the construction and installation
21、 of equip- ment shall be in conformance with class III, finish 1 of Specification QQ-S-766. 3.1.1.2 Structural. Brackets, frames, and other shapes shall be fabricated of steel con- forming to type II of Specification QQ-S- 741. . . 3.1.2 Wood. 3.1.2.1 Hardwood. Light holder shall be of kiln-dried fi
22、rst grade maple conforming to Specification “-L-736. 3.1.2.2 Plywood. Drawer inserts and divid- ers shall be fabricated from interior type Douglas fir plywood conforming to Specifi- cation NN-P-530. 3.1.3 Rubber. Rubber for bumpers on the inspection kit shall conform to Specification MIL-R-17006. 3.
23、1.4 Webbing. Webbing for fabrication of mounting straps and tie-downs shall be water-, weather-, fungus-, and mildew-resist- ant in conformance with type III, class 4, olive drab No. 7 of Specification MIGW- 530. Webbing shall be of the sizes shown on the applicable drawings. 4 3.1.5 Chain. Chain sh
24、all be zinc-coated, size !to type K of Specification WW-T-799. 3.1.7 Pneumatic hose. Pneumatic hose for the air compressor to storage tank connec- ,tion shall conform to Specification ZZ-H-499. 3.18 Substitution of mateyials. 25、rein shall not be eub- stituted unless such substitutions are specifi- cally approved by the contracting officer. Substitutions will be approved only if it is clearly demonstrated that an improvement in operating characteristics, a saving in weight, conservation of critical or strategic materi- als,
26、 or a reduction in cost wihout sacrifice of reliability can be accomplished thereby, and khat such substitutions will not preclude the subsequent use of specified materiah in ,effecting repairs or replacements. Requests for approval of such substitutions shall be accompanied by completely detailed s
27、upport- ing data which clearly illustrate the use of the proposed substitute ma-terials. 3.2 Fastenings. All screws, bolts, fastener assemblies, and other similar devices shall be installed with a positive means of locking to prevent loosening due to vibration. Lock- ing shall be by cotter pins, loc

29、mately two threads showing when completely tightened. 3.2.1 Screws. 3.2.1-1 Machine. Machine screws shall be of steel conforming to Specification QQ-S- 624. Types of screws shown on drawings in 2.1 shall conform to Specification FF-S-92. 3.2.1.2 Sheetmetal. Sheetmetal screws shall be corrosion-resis
30、tant steel and conform to ltype A, style 1s of Specification FF-S-107, 3.2.1.3 Cap. Capscrews shall conform to type II, grade 2 of Specification FF-S-85. 3.2.2 Bolts and nuts. Bolts and nuts shall conform to specification FF-B-571; bolts shall be type A-2, class C, and nuts shall be type A-2. Thread
31、ed series and size shall be as specified on drawings in 2.1. 3.2.3 Washers. Flatwashers shall conform to type A, grade I, class A of Specification FF-W-92 and lockwasherg to class A, style 2 of Specification FF-W-84. Washers shall be sized as speoified on drawings in 24. 3.2.4 Rivets. Rivets shall c
32、onform to Stand- ard MS20470 and shall be of the type and size specified on the applicable drawings in 2.1. 3.3 Design. The M447 semitrailer van with the installed special.ized tools and equipment (see 6.4), complete with the installakion of the storage cabinet, equipment, and compo- nents specified
33、 herein and shown on the drawings in 2.1, shall constitute the shop set W. If a change in design, or additional com- ponents, are required to conform to this specification, emphasis shall be placed on aimpllioity of design, Ilghtweight, and ease of fabrication by mass production. 38.1 Safety precaut
34、ions. All rotating parts, reciprocating parts, or parts subject to extreme temperatures, and parts of such MIL-S-58023 (TC) nature or so located as to become a hazard to operating personnel, shall be insulated, fully enclosed, or guarded. 3.3.2 Drawings and technical data. De- tailed shop drawings,
35、as-constructed” draw- .ings, and technical data (bills of material, machinery and equipment lists, and inven- tory) shall %be prepared and submitted for approval in conformance with Specification MIGD-11464. 3.4 Construction. 3.4.1 Welding. The surface of all parts to ,be welded shall be free from r
36、ust, scale, paint, grease, and other furaign matter. Un- less otherwise specified, or shown on the d.rawings, welds shall develop the strength .M required for the parts connected. All weld- ing shall be in accordance with the latest applicable codes of the American Welding Society as contained in th
37、e Welding Hand- book. Welders shall be qualified in accord- ance with the applicable tests specified in the Welding Handbook. Any welder shall be re- quired to retake, and satisfactorily pass this test, when, in the opinion of the contracting .officer, there is a reasonable doubt of h.is proficiency
38、. 3.4.2 Standard parts. AN or MIL standard parts shall be used wherever they are suit- ,able for the purpose, and shall be identified by their part number. Commercial utility parts such as screws, bolts, nuts, and cotter pins may be used provided they have suit- able properties and are capable of be
39、ing re- placed by AN ur MIL standard parts without alteration. In applications for which no suit- able corresponding AN or MIL part is in effect on date of invitation for bids, commer- cial parts may be used provided they con- form to this specification. 3.4.3 Threaded parts. Threaded parts shall co
40、nform to Handbook H28. Thread series shall be as specified on the applicable draw- ings listed in 251. 41、nts shall be interchangeable (without re- quiring modification for replacement) with similar components furnished under the same contract or order. 3.4.5 Riveted connections. Rivet holes shall be accurately punched or drilled. Riveta shall be driven to completely fill .fhe holes. Heads shall be conc
42、entric with the shank and have full bearing all around, Each type head of the same diameter rivets shall be uniform in size and shape. 3.4.6 Adjustments. All parts subject to ad- justment or replacement by operating or maintenance personnel shall be readily ac- cessible. Adjusting facilities, where
43、provided, shall operate smoothly and without interfer- ence and shall adequately maintain such ad- justments under all conditions of semice. -Designs which render servicing, adjustment, or replacement unduly difficult under field conditions w.ill not be accepted. 3.4.7 Equivalent products. Where a m
44、anu- facturers products are shown on the draw- ings referenced in 2.1, equivalent products may be substituted in the preparation of the manufacturers working drawings. However, after approval of the working drawings by the contracting officer, products speoified thereon shall be furn.ished without s
45、ubstitu- tion. 3.5 Installation. Fitting of mounting brack- ets, plates, drawer dividers and inserts, and positioning of mounting holes for the tools and equipment to be installed for shop set G3, shall be done at time of installation, and lshall conform generally as shown an draw- ings in 2.1. 3.6
46、Cabinet. Cabinet required for installa- tion in shop set G3 will be Government- furnished (see 6.4). The assembled cabinet shall be located in the M447 van (see 6.4) where shown on Drawing AA-17A-0023, and shall be secured in accordance with Drawing AA-17A-0036. Fastenings shall be adequate to withs
47、tand the shocks, vibrations, and stresses imposed during normal opera- tions, and the test specified .in 4.4.3 when the cabinet b loaded to operational capacity. 3.7 Drawer storage. Drawer inserts fabri- cated of .a/-inch-th#ick plywood and dividers of S-inch-thick plywood, shall be provided for all
48、 cabinet drawers for storage of tools and equipment (see 3.21.2). The inserts shall be sized to fit loosely in the bottom of the individual drawers, the cutouts shall match the specific items for storage, and the divid- ers used to separate the specific items for storage shall be sized to fit on top
49、 of the inserts in he existing divider guides. Spac- ing of the diveiders shall suit the specific items to prevent their sMfting during transit, the top surface being approximately flush with the top of the specific drawer. 3.8 Bin storage. Web straps and special brackets to fit specific items shall be provided in all bins used for storage of tools and equipment (see 3.21.2) to prevent shifting during transit. 3.9 Safety chain.
