2、 Scope. This specification covers a tent liner for use with small general purpose and 10-man arctic tents. The tent liner is fabricated from natural color, fire resistant oxford cotton cloth. 2. 18、t of this specification and the references cited herein, the text of this Specification shall take precedence. Nothing in this specification, however, shall supersede applicable laws and regulations unless a specific exemption has been obtained. 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.1 First article. When specified in t

19、he contract or purchase order, a sample shall be subjected to first article inspection (see 4.3, 6.2 and 6.3). 3.2 Materials and components. Materials and components shall be as specified herein (see 6.4). 3.2.1 Cloth, oxford, cotton. The cloth shall conform to type I, class 2 of MIL-C-10859, 3 Prov

The tape shall be 1/2 inch, 3/4 inch and 2 inch widths conforming to type I, class lb of MIL-T-43566. Alternatively, th

21、e tape shall be polypropylene conforming to type I, class 3 of MIL-W-44049. 3.2.3 Webbing, low elongation, The webbing shall be 1 inch wide conforming to type I of MIL-W-43638. 3.2.4 Thread, polyester. 3.2.4.1 Liner. The thread shallbe natural and shall c.onform to type I or II, class 1, subclass A,

22、 natural in color of V-T-285. 3.2.4.2 Sizes. Thread sizes shall be as follows: For all stitching except stitching indicated by “Z“ on drawings For stitching indicated by “Z“ on drawings Bartacking - Size E for needle and size B for bobbin - Size E for needle and size B for looper - Size E for needle

23、 and bobbin 3.2.5 Fasteners, slide, interlocking. The slide fasteners shall conform to type III, style 1, size H, brass chain and brass slider with double wire stirrup pull of V-F-106. Alternatively, the slide fastener chain shall be polyester continuous monofilament in a ladder or coil type configu

24、ration. Color of the chain, slider, pull and stops shall approximately match the tape color, The slide fastener tape shall be natural in color prior to t.he water repellent and mildew resistant treatment. Tape made of 100 percent polyester need not be treated for mildew resistance. 3.2.6 Rings, dee.

25、 The dee rings shall conform to class 1 or 2, configuration K, size 1 x 3/4 of MIL-R-3390. 3.2.7 Buckles, tongueless, 2 bar. The buckles shall conform to type II, style 1, class 3 of MIL-B-543. 3.2.8 Grommets, metallic. The grommets shall conform to type III, class 3, size No. 2 of MIL-G-16491. 3.3

26、Construction. 27、of stitching. All stitching, except bartacking, shall conform to FED-STD-751 as follows: For all stitching, except - Type 301, 6 to 8 stitches per stitching indicated by inch “2“ on drawings For stitching indicated by “Z“ on drawings and for attachment of slide fasteners For bartacking - Type 401, 6

28、 to 8 stitches per inch Chain portion of stitching shall not appear on outside of tent liner - Bartack, 3/4 + 1/8 inch long with 1/8 + 1732 inch bight and shall contain 42 stitches 3.3.1.2 Type 301 stitching. Ends of all stitching shall be backstitched or averstitched 1/2 inch minimum except when ca

29、ught in other stitching or turned under in a hem. Thread tension shall be maintained so that there will be no loose stitching resulting in puckering of material sewn. The lock shall be embedded in the material sewn, 3.3.1.2.1 Repairs of type 301 stitching. The ends of the stitching are not required

30、to be backstitched. Repairs of.type 301 stitching shall be as fqllows: a. When thread breaks or bobbin run-outs occur during sewing, the stitching shall be repaired by restarting the stitching a minimum of one inch behind the end of the stitching. b. Thread breaks, two or more consecutive skipped st

31、itches or run-off stitches noted during inspection of the item (in-process or end item) shall be repaired by overstitching. The stitching shall start a minimum of one inch before the defective area (1/2 inch on Box, Box and Cross and W-W stitching) and continue a minimum of one inch beyond the defec

32、tive area onto the existing stitching. the defective stitching, without damaging the materials, and restitching in the required manner, Loose or excessively tight stitching shall be repaired by removing 3.3.1.3 Type 401 stitching. Thread tension shall be maintained so that there will be no loose sti

33、tching. Both ends of all seams or stitching produced with a 401 stitch type, when not turned under in a hem or held down by other stitching, shall have a 1/2 to 3/4 inch chain extending beyond each end. The looper (under thread) shall always be on the inside of the tent or cover. be made in accordan

34、ce with 3.3.1.3.1a or 3.3.1.3.1b. 301 stitch type. Automatic stitching machines may be used to perform any of th

35、e required stitch patterns provided the requirements of the stitch pattern, stitches per inch, size and type of thread are met, and at least three tying, overlapping or backstitches are used to secure the ends of the stitching. 3.3.1.5 Thread ends, All thread ends that are visible on the finished it

36、em shall be trimmed to a length of not more than 1/4 inch. 3.3.1.6 Stitching margins, Unless otherwise specified, all stitch margins shall be 1/8, +1/16 -0 inch. 3.3.1.7 Bartacking. Bartacking shall be free of thread breaks or loose stitching. 3.3.2 Setting of grommets. .Holes punched to receive the

37、 grommets shall be smaller than the outside diameter of the grommet barrel so that the barrel must be forced through the hole. The grommets shall be securely clinched without cutting the materials. 3.3.3 Attachment of slide fasteners. Care shall be exercised to trim all thread ends to 1/4 inch or le

38、ss and maintain specified distances between edges of fabric attached to slide fastener tape so that there will be no interference with the operation of the stlider. such that after the slide fastener is sewed on, the tape shall not be puckered and the slider shall operate freely. The length of the s

39、lide fastener shall be 3.3.4 Splicing of webbing. If required, the webbing shall be spliced as shown on Drawing 5-4-931. A maximum of one splice per gore shall be permitted. The minimum distance between splices in webbing in the remainder of the liner shall be 5 feet, 3.3.5 Splicing of cloth. There

40、shall be no splicing of the cloth in the roof or wall panels. 3.3.6 Fusing of ends of synthetic webbing and tape. All ends of synthetic webbing and tape shall be fused. The apparatus used to fuse the ends shall be capable of providing sufficient heat to provide a smooth edge and with the cut ends of

41、 the yarns all fused together. Fusing of the ends shall be accomplished prior to being assembled for stitching. 3.3.7 Replacement of defective components. During the spreading, cutting and manufacturing process, components of the liner having material defects or damages that are classified as defect

Repairs, whenever

43、necessary, shall be effected in accordance with Department of the Army Field Manual FM 10-16 except that hand sewn patches, or cemented patches other than as specified herein, will not be acceptable. iIoles, cuts or tears not more than 1 inch in diameter or length may be repaired with cemented patch

44、es. The cement shall be as specified in MIL-C-2399. A maximum of three cemented patches per tent will be acceptable without prior authorization from the contracting officer, All other repairs shall require contracting officer authorization. 3.4 Marking. All labels and markings shall conform to DDD-L

45、-20. 3.4.1 Special marking. The letters “US“ and repair kit marking on the tent liner shall conform to type IV, class 9 in the size characters and in the locations shonn on the drawings. Class 9 markings shall be clearly legible after subjection to accelerated weathering. 3.4.2 Identification label.

46、 The identification label shall conform to type VI, class 6 and shall be 3-1/2 inches by 5-1/2 inches minimum and a blank space of at least 1-1/4 inches shall be provided on the bottom of the label for the Department of Defense inspectors stamp. The identification label shall be stitched to the tent

47、 liner in the location shown on the drawing. 3.4.3 Label of care and maintenance instructions. The label of care and maintenance instructions shall conform to type VI, class 7 and shall be stitched to the tent liner in the-location shown on the drawing The size of the 1,abel shall be, borderline to

48、borderline, 15 + 1/4 inckesin the longer dimension with a minimum 1/2 inch margin outside of th; borderline on all sides. information on the label shall be a proportionate copy of Drawing 5-4-933. The 3.5 Workmanship. The liner shall conform to the quality of product established by this document and

49、 the occurrence of defects shall not exceed the applicable acceptable quality levels. Thread tension shall be maintained so that there is no loose stitching, and seam allowances shall be maintained with seams properly sewn so that no runoffs, twists, pleats or open seams result. Care shall be taken to see that no needle chews occur. Cloth components shall . be clean and free of holes, cuts, tears or cloth defects such as multiple float
