This specification cover

2、s frame supported cotton duck for sheltering cable splicers. 1.2 Classification. The tents shall be of the following types as specified (see 6.2). In the event of a conflict between the text of this document and the references cited herein, the text of this document takes precedence. Nothing in this docu

16、ment, however, supersedes applicable laws and regulations unless a specific exemption has been obtained. 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.1 First article, When specified (see 6.21, a sample shall be subjected . to first article inspection (see 6.3) in accordance with 4.3. 3.2 Materials and components. Materials an

17、d components shall conform to the specifications, standards and drawings listed in section 2 and as specified herein. practical as long as it meets the requirements of this specification. It is encouraged that recycled material be used when 3.3.1 Stitching, machine. 3.3.1.1 Types of stitching. All s

19、it.ching indicated per inch by “2“ on drawings For zig-zag stitching - Type 304, 1/8 to 3/16 inch width, 10 to 14 stitches per inch For stitching indicated by “Z“ - Type 401, 5 to 7 stitches on drawings per inch Chain portion of stitching shall not appear on outside of tent For bartacking - Bartack,

20、 1/2 2 1/16 inch long 1/8 inch wide (bight) and shall contain 28 stitches 3.3.1.2 Thread breaks. Thread breaks in stitching shall be overstitched not less than 1 inch in each direction at each break on stitch type 301; not less than 3/4 inch in each direction at each break on stitch type 304; and no

21、t less than 1-1/2 inches in each direction at each break on stitch type 401, Thread breaks in type 401 stitching may be overstitched with stitch type 301. Bartacks shall be free of thread breaks or loose stitching. 3.3.1.3 Stitching ends. The ends of type 301 stitching shall be overstitched not less

22、 than 1 inch except where ends are turned under in a hem or held down by other stitching. Where 301 stitching is performed automatically on stitch patterns such as box, box with cross-stitch, W“ stitching or straight line tacking, at least three or more tying, overlapping or backstitches shall be us

23、ed to secure the ends of stitching. The ends of type 304 stitching shall be firmly secured by backstitching or overstitching or by increasing the number of stitches per inch for a minimum of 1/4 inch. 3.3.1.4 Skipped stitches. Two or more consecutively skipped stitches occurring in types 301 or 304

24、stitching shall be overstitched not less than 1 inch in each direction, Any skipped stitch in type 401 stitching shall be overstitched not less than 1-1/2 inches in each direction, Skipped stitches in type 401 stitching may be overstitched with type 301 stitching. 3.3.1.5 Lubrication of thread. The

25、addition of any lubricant to the polyester thread prior to or during the sewing operation is prohibited. 3.3,1.6 Stitching margins. Handstitching shall be accomplished where indicated on Drawings 5-4-2338 and 5-4-2341 with twine specified, using four strands twisted together. secured, Each stitch shall be pulled tight and all ends of stitching 3.3.3 Se

27、tting of grommets. Holes punched to receive the grommets shall be smaller than the outside diameter of the grommet barrel so that the barrel must be forced through the hole. Grommets shall be securely clinched without cutting the materials. 3.3.4 Setting of rivets. Rivets shall be securely set and n

28、eatly headed. 3.3.5 Welding. All welding shall be as specified on the drawings. Materials to be welded shall be clean and free from scale, corrosion, oil, water and other matter. Welds shall be sound, smooth, free from flash and shall show good fusion. 3.3.6 Repairs. Repairs whenever necessary and w

29、hen authorized by the contracting officer shall be effected in accordance with Department of the Army Field Manual FM 10-16 except that handsewn or glued patches will not be acceptable. 3.3.7 Wicking of sewing thread (cup test). There shall be no dripping of water through the tent stitching when the

30、 tent is tested as specified in 4.4.5. The cup test is intended to insure that nonwicking thread has been utilized and that no lubrication has been added to the polyester thread during the sewing operation. 3.4 Markinq. All marking and labels shall conform to DDD-L-20. 3.4.1 Direct marking. The lett

31、ers “U.S.“ and special marking on the tents shall conform to type IV, class 9 in the size characters and in the locations shown on the applicable drawings. after subjection to accelerated weathering. Class 9 marking shall be clearly legible 3.4.2 Identification label. Identification labels shall con

32、form to type VI class 6 and shall be 3-1/2 inches by 5-1/2 inches minimum with a blank space reserved at the bottom of the label for the Department of Defense inspectors stamp. Identification labels shall be stitched to the tents in the locations shown on the drawings. 3.5 Workmanship. Cloth compone

33、nts shall be clean and free of holes, cuts, tears or cloth defects such as multiple floats or broken or missing yarns. Tape shall not have frayed or scalloped edges. Thread tension shall b$ maintained so that there will be no loose stitching and seam allowances shall be maintained with seams properl

34、y sewed so that no run-Offs, twists, pleats or open seams shall result. Care shall be taken in sewing to insure that no needle chews occur. All thread ends shall be trimmed to 1/2 inch or less. Metal components shall be free of burrs or sharp edges and shall not be broken Provided by IHSNot for Resa

36、cceptable quality levels. The tent shall conform to the quality 4. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS 4.1 Responsibility fr inspection. Unless otherwise speciEied in the contract or purchase order, the contraetor is responsible for the performance of all inspection requirements (examinations and tests) as

37、 specified herein. Except as otherwise specified in the contract or purchase order, the. contractor may use his own or any 0th-er facilities suitable for the performance“of the inspection requirements specified herein, unless disapproved bythe Government. The Government reserves the right to perform

38、 any of the inspections set forth in this specification where such inspections are deemed necessary to ensure supplies and services conform toprescribed requirements o 4.1.1 Responsibility for compliance. All items shall meet all requirements of sections 3 and 5. The inspection set forth in this spe

39、cifIcation.sha-11 become a part of the contractors overall inspection system or quality program. The absence of any inspection requirements in the specification shall not relieve the contractor of the responsibility of ensuring that all products or supplies submitted to the Government for acceptance

40、 comply with all requirements of the contract. Sampling inspection, as part of manufacturing operations, is an acceptable practice to ascertain conformance to requirements, however, this does not authorize submission of known defective material, either indicated or actual, nor does it commit the Gov

41、ernment to accept defective Naterial. 4.1.2 Responsibility for dimensional requirements. Unless otherwise specified in the contract or purchase order, the contractor is responsible for ensuring that all specified dimensions have been met. When dimensions cannot be examined on the end item, inspectio

42、n shall be made at any point, or-at all points in the manufacturing process necessary to ensure compliance with all dimensional requirements. 4.2 Classification of inspections. The inspection requirements specified herein are classified as follows: a. b. Quality conformance inspection (see 4.4). Fir

Unless otherwise specified, sampling for inspection shall be performed in accordance with MIL-S

45、TD-105. 4.4.1 Component and material inspection. In accordance with 4.1, components and materials shall be inspected in accordance with all the requirements of referenced documents unless otherwise excluded, amended, modified, or qualified in thisspecification or applicable purchase document. 4.4.2

46、In-process inspection. Examination shall be made of the following requirements, operations, or assemblies to establish conformance to specified requirements, Whenever nonconformance is noted, correction shall be made to the items affected, the lot in progress, and to the operation. Parts which canno

47、t be corrected shall be removed from production, a. That no lubrication is applied to the polyester thread prior to or during sewing operations for compliance with 3.3.1.5. b. That holes punched to receive grommets are in compliance with 3.3.3. c. That welds and welding are in compliance with 3.3.5

48、and applicable drawings. 4.4.3 End item visual examination, 4.4.3.1 Tent visual -examination. The end items shail be examined for the defects listed in table I. The lot size shall be expressed in units of tents. The sample unit shall be one tent. The inspection level shall be II and the acceptable q

49、uality level (AQL), expressed in terms of defects per hundred units, of 6.5 for major defects, 15 for major and minor A defects combined, and 40 for total (major, minor A and i3 defects combined) defects.
