6、 FOR THE DETERMINATION OF THE PERCENTAGE OF VOLATILE MATTER IN WOVEN TEXTILE GLASS FIERE FABRIC PREIMPREGNATE This standard specifies a method for determining the percentage of volatile matter in a woven textile glass fibre fabric preimpregnate, for aerospace use. REFERENCES EN62, Glass reinforced p

DEFINITIONS A woven textile glass fibre fabric preimpregnate with a thermosetting resin is a material that can be purchased in the form of a synthetic resin impregnate woven textile glass fibre fabric and used for the manufacture of moulde

8、d components. PRINCIPLE OF THE METHOD Determination of difference in mass by means of weighing before and after conditioning at an elevated temperature for a specified time, expressed as percentage of volatile matter with respect to the initial mass. APPARATUS 5.1 Balance with an accuracy of 1 mg. 5

9、.2 Metal template of specimen. 5.3 Ancillary items such as sharp cutting knife and tweezers. 5.4 Tray of suitable material and form, e.g. corrugated metal foil, if necessary to prevent the loss of any resin that may drip from the specimen while it is being heated. - AECMA PREN2330 83 m LOL23LL 00029

10、25 7 U prEN2330 Page 4 5.5 Oven capable of maintaining the temperature with an accuracy of 1 5OC and provided with a fan for circulating the air. 5.6 Desiccator, containing a suitable drying agent (for example, silica gel, calcium chloride, phosphorus pentoxide). 6 STANDARD ATMOSPHERE FOR CONDITIONI

11、NG AND TESTING 6.1 Conditioning 6.1.1 Material stored at ambient temperature Unless otherwise specified, the necessary amount of material (see clause 7) shall be sampled and conditioned in the standard testing atmosphere (see clause 6.2.1) for a minimum bf 2 h. 6.1.2 Material stored below ambient te

12、mperature The material, suitably packed in an air-tight and solvent resistant bag to prevent moisture pick-up, shall be allowed to reach ambient temperature over a period of time according to the mass of the package. This time shall not be less than 8 h and the actual time shall be recorded in the r

13、eport. When the material has reached the ambient temperature, the necessary amount (see clause 7) shall be sampled and conditioned in the standard testing atmosphere (see clause 6.2.1), for a . minimum of 2 h, unless otherwise specified. .- 6.2 Testing 6.2.1 Standard atmosphere for testing The stand

14、ard atmosphere shall be in accordance with standard e EN62, that is to say that the tests shall be carried out at 23 ;t 2OC and (50 - + 5) % relative humidity. 6.2.2 Time interval between conditioning and testing After conditioning, the test shall be carried out within 6 h, unless otherwise specifie

15、d, the specimen being kept in the standard atmosphere until the test is carried out. 7 SAMPLING 7.1 Test specimen I The specimen shall have a length of 100 $: 1 mm and a width of 100 2 1 mm. Other dimensions of the test specimen may be used subject to agreement between the purchaser and supplier, bu

16、t having a surface area of 3.00 cm2 with an accuracy of +. 2%. These shall be evenly distributed over the width and cut from the sample diagonally (85

17、) either across the width or along an axis inclined at an angle as close as possible to the weft direction. Remove the separating film and weigh each specimen to

20、the nearest mg, if necessary with a weighed tray (see clause 5.4). Transfer the specimens (with tray, if used) to an oven maintained at the specified temperature. Take care that the specimens are well ventilated by the hot air in the oven. After the specified time, remove the specimens (and tray, if

21、 used) from the oven, cool down to ambient temperature in a desicca,tor and weigh to the nearest mg. NOTE : Oven temperature and time are those as specified in the relevant material standard, according to resin type. 9 CALCULATION AND EXPRESSION OF RESULTS The percentage of volatile matter in each t

22、est specimen is calculated from the formula : (ml - m2) P= x 100 if no tray is used ml or : (ml - 9) (ml - m3) P= x 100 if a tray is used where : P = the content of volatile matter expressed as a percentage of the original mass, ml = the initial mass of the specimen (and tray, if used), in g, m2 = t
