The PROSTEP iViP
、Association is an international non-profit association in Europe. For establishing leadership in IT-based engineering it offers a moderated platform to its nearly 200 members from leading industries, system vendors and research institutions. Its product and process data standardization activities at
、 European and worldwide levels are well known and accepted. The PROSTEP iViP Association sees this standard and the related parts as a milestone of product data technology. The current version is focused on product data as defined in the domain specific parts. 1) In preparation at the date of publication. 2) Published as ASD Prestandard at the date of publication of this standard. prEN 9300-011:20065 5 Data preparation See Figure
、1. Figure 1 Data preparation process The data to be archived will be prepared by the producer. This includes a defined data verification, performed by a Quality Agent tool. The data verification will test the data against defined data quality requirements, and will provide a result report. Data prep
、aration also includes the creation of validation properties. The sub process shall be certified. Additional data may be added, but must match at a minimum the requirements for the information package. (See EN 9300-003, section 5.3.2.1 “Definition of the core model”). prEN 9300-011:20066 6.2 Select
、data for archiving The producer selects data for archiving during an e.g. domain depended release process (this is out of scope for EN 9300). As an example, the selection can be performed at a product structure viewer of a CAD/PDM system. The process step represents the initial trigger for the archi
、ving process. The selected e.g. CAD or PDM information defines the Content Information (CI) of the future SIP. Input data: CI Error report for producer of process step number 10: error handling for data preparation Process control data Output data: CI 6.3 Initiate quality agent The producer will tri
、gger the process manually. The system tool “quality agent“ automatically creates validation properties from the data and checks if the data meets with the recommended data quality criteria. It is recommended that the process step is synchronized with the Producers own release process. Input data: CI
、 Output data: CI 6.4 Data verification Whereas the purpose of validation is to ensure that the right information has been captured, the intention of verification is to ensure that the data is correctly represented. Verification rules shall ensure that a data representation meet the quality requireme
、nts within defined tolerances. Verification is successful if no verification rule is violated. The verification rules are domain specific and are defined within EN 9300 (for example, verification rules for CAD are described in the 100 series parts of EN 9300). Only verification rules belonging to th
、e core models are part of EN 9300. The down stream processes and the data outputs are determined by the result of the “data verification”. Input data: CI Data quality rules Output data: If data verification is successful: CI Reference to Results report (The integration of this information into the D
、escriptive Information is optional) Results Report If data verification fails: Data preparation error report prEN 9300-011:20067 6.5 Automatic creation of validation properties? The producer has to decide if a manual or automatic creation of validation properties is possible. Input data: CI Output d
、ata: CI 6.6 Automatic creation of validation properties The Producer initiates the source system to calculate validation properties automatically. The Validation properties are used later for validation within the process step “INGEST Generate AIP“. Possible validation properties are: Validation pro
、perties for 3D CAD Data, e.g. weight, centre of gravity, . Validation properties for PDM product structure information (future: Validation properties for CAx and electric harness, .) It is recommended that validation properties shall be extracted from the Content Information directly. Alternatively
、validation properties can be generated manually and saved within the Preservation Description Information (PDI). The sub processes detailing the specific actions in case of failure or success of the creation of validation properties are not represented. Where needed, it will be detailed in the recom
、mended practises associated to the part 11. Input data: CI Validation property rules data Output data: CI Validation properties 6.7 Create PDI The producer creates the Preservation Description Information (PDI). The PDI is the information which is necessary for adequate preservation of the Content I
、nformation and which can be categorized as Provenance, Reference, Fixity, and Context information. As an addition for EN 9300, the producer shall integrate validation properties information into the PDI to ensure the existence of Validation Properties for later automatic validation processes. A furt
、her addition belongs to the Proprietary Rights: Product data may be covered by proprietary rights that shall be protected. All information that the Producer wishes to declare as proprietary shall be identified as proprietary. Information regarding proprietary rights shall be associated with the prod
、uct data to assure the information is appropriately marked to provide the protection warranted such product data. Sean will provide a new sentence. prEN 9300-011:20068 PDI is categorized as: Provenance: the integrity of an information object is partly embodied in tracing from where it came. To prese
、rve the integrity of an information object, digital archives must preserve a record of its origin and chain of custody. Reference: provides one or more identifiers, or systems of identifiers, by which the Content Information may be uniquely identified. Fixity: If an object is not fixed, and the cont
、ent is subject to change or withdrawal without notice, then its integrity may be compromised. Fixity information prevents such change. Context: Context describes how the Content Information relates to other information outside the Information Package. For example, it would describe why the Content I
、nformation was produced, and it may include a description of how it relates to another Content Information object. Input data: Validation properties Results report Output data: If creation of PDI is successful: PDI If creation of PDI fails: Reset archiving trigger information 6.8 Create Descriptive
、Information The producer creates a set of Descriptive Information (DI), which includes archive meta data meeting the archives requirements (according to ISO 14721:2003 OAIS). The descriptive information includes a reference to the data verification results report. Input data: Results report, as refe
、rence information Output data: DI 6.9 Create SIP The producer creates a SIP by combining the DI, PDI and CI into one package. The SIP contains also Packaging Information (PI. The PI is that information which, either actually or logically, binds, identifies and relates the CI and PDI. The SIP will be
、 transferred to the archive. The formats of the packages are defined in a submission agreement between the producer and the archive. Input data: CI PDI DI PI Output data: SIP prEN 9300-011:20069 6.10 Manual creation validation properties The producer shall be able to create a set of predefined valid
、ation properties manually, in the case that the producing system is not able to calculate the needed validation properties. The manual creation of validation properties must be documented within the archiving process for of traceability reasons. This includes the basis data for the validation proper
、ties and the expected results. Input data: CI Output data: Validation properties CI 6.11 Error handling for data preparation Within this process the Producer has to perform an error handling procedure. This contains the decision if data is still usable or has to be generated newly. Input data: Error

Preservation Planning functions include developing recommendations for archive standards and policies and monitoring changes in the technology environment, archiving format and the addressed co
