In exceptional circumstances, however, the publication of a Technical Report of one of the following types may be proposed: type
、 1, the subject is still under technical development requiring wider exposure; type 2, a Technical Domain has collected data of a different kind from that which is normally published as a European Standard. The Mechanical Domain decided to publish this document in the form of a Technical Report of t
、ype 2, as it contains only general guidelines. Technical Reports are normally published in a trilingual version. Due to the volume of this document, the report is published, as an exception, in three separate language versions. Page 4 TR 4609:01-2015 Introduction Aerospace and Defence Standardisatio

、k TR4609-2 Number of this Technical Report Recess code (see Table 1) 4 Recess gauging Two varieties of penetration gauges for acceptance inspection purposes should be used to gauge the recess, the hand plug type as depicted in Figure 2, with the dimensions shown in Table 2 and the dial indicating ty
、pe as shown in Figure 3, with the dimensions shown in Table 3. Penetration dial type gauge: Using the appropriate size penetration gauge, check the zero adjustment against a known flat piece of steel stock. Insert the penetration element into the recess and firmly push the top of the recess against
、the bottom of the gauge body. Measure and record the gauge penetration. The reading shall be within acceptable limits per application part standard. Hand plug type gauges: Using light finger pressure only, place the appropriate GO gauge into the recess until resistance is felt. The GO element should
、 enter and bottom in the recess. Using light finger pressure only attempt to place the appropriate NO-GO gauge element into the recess. The NO-GO gauge element should not enter beyond the acceptable fall away limit at the head surface of the screw. Page 7 TR 4609:01-2015 Key A No-go element recess d

The fixture shall not resist any tendency of the driver bit to cam out of the recess during the test. 5.1.2 Torsion machine Torsion machines or other power tools shall conform to applicable
、 requirements. 5.1.3 Driver bit The driver bit shall be appropriate for the recess being tested as defined in the applicable military standards, industry standards or manufacturers data. Unless otherwise specified, the driver bit shall be in accordance with the requirements of industry standards. 5.
、1.4 Test specimens The shank of the fastener may be modified to ensure non-rotation during testing. The clamp or non-rotation device shall be located within two nominal diameters of the fastener from the head to shank junction. Page 11 TR 4609:01-2015 7 Detail technical requirements The test torque
、verification are: a) Measure flatness of surface at the recess periphery and record flatness. b) Place fastener in a suitable test fixture (see Figure 4). c) Insert the driver bit into the recess of the fastener, ensuring that the bit is free to move in or out of the recess but that the bit axis is
、constrained within 1 of angular alignment with the fastener axis. d) Apply an end load as specified in the fastener standard or other applicable document. If none is specified, apply an end load of 90 1 Newtons (20 0,25) pounds. The total end load shall be effective at bit/fastener juncture. e) With
、 the bit inserted into the recess and the end load applied (but no torque applied), zero the torque measuring device. f) Apply the torque slowly in the installation direction at a smooth, continuous rate until the minimum torque, as specified in Table 4, has been reached. g) Record the applied torqu
