7、d 800 tons (2 814 kW), will be expanded in 1997 to include capacities between 200 tons (703 kW) and 1,500 tons (5 276 kw). “Eighty percent of all US. chiller installations fall into the 200- 1,500 ton capacity range,” said Roger Morey, vice president of Carriers Com- mercial Applied Equipment and Se

8、rvices Group. Evergreen chillers use chlorine- free HFC- 134a refrigerant with operating efficiencies approaching SO kWfton at full load ARl550-92 conditions. Carrier also introduced a new line of EcologicTM water-cooled and air-cooled chillers, and a new line of 39T central sta- tion air handlers t

9、hat feature increased performance and a smaller footprint. York introduced a new version of its TriathlonTM system that features natural gas heating and cooling, and supplemen- tal electric heat. The system reduces costs because it uses the most efficient combi- nation of natural gas and electricity

10、, and operates at variable speeds. The system is powered by a natural gas-driven, single- cylinder Briggs and Stratton engine locat- ed in the outdoor section. The engine is coupled to a high-efficiency compressor that circulates the refrigerant through the outdoor unit and the indoor section, which

11、 contains a variable speed blower and sup- plies cooled or heated air as required. The Triathlon comes in %on (10.5 kW) and 3.5-ton (12.3 kw) models. It has a cost equivalent rating as high as 25 SEER (Season Energy Efficiency Ratio). York also introduced the new line of 30-ton (106 kW) and 40-ton (

12、141 kW) Millennium packaged rooftop units; and displayed the Champion series, a single- package system (1.5 to 3.5 tons) that in- cludes the “Plus” gas heat/electric cool- ing models. York also announced that the BAC- netTM Building Automation and Control Network will be offered with Yorks en- tire

13、product line by late 1997. James L. Baird, manager of York Automation and Control Group, said the BACnets use at all levels of the building automation sys- tem expands Yorks “openness” tradi- tion. “The HVAC$ * and the new SuperMod BurnerTM, an applied rooftop system with a 20-to-one turn- down rati

Other McQuay products included the new Vision Air Handlers which have com- pressible bulb-type gaskets on all doors and panels to prevent air leakage and ther- mal bridging of cabinet components. The new Summit Compliant Scroll was introduced by the Copeland Cor- poration of Sidney, Ohio. The com

15、pres- sor is available in 7-10 hp (5.2-7.5 kW), and is designed for use with R-22 and R- 707C. Its Copelands first scroll prod- uct developed specifically for light com- mercial air-conditioning applications. A new family of Personal Environ- ments workstations was introduced by Johnson Controls, Mi

16、lwaukee. The workstations, designed for both retrofit and new construction, use circulated air via conventional ceiling systems or floor, wall or column plenum. The sta- tions allow employees to control tem- peratures, airflow, radiant heat, task lighting and background noise. Johnson also unveiled

17、the VAV Mod- ular Assembly (VMA) that improves system performance; single and dual- 16 ASHRAE Journal through a process that involved contractors and end-users. block multifunction gas control valves; a new family of multi-stage stand-alone electronic controls; a multi-functional defrost controller;

18、 and several enhance- ments to the MetasysTM Facility Man- agement System. An impressive exhibit was presented by Baltimore Aircoil Company which dis- played its Series 1500 Cooling Tower. The result is a tower design that minimizes the costs associated with enclosur

20、es, support re- quirements, electrical service, piping and rigging, and maintenance for both new and replacement cooling tower projects. What is billed as the first gas-fired steam humidifier was displayed by Dri- Steem Humidifier Company of Eden Prairie, Minn. The GTS( (gas-to-steam) system uses na

21、tural or LP gas to provide chemical-free steam for commercial/in- dustrial facilities. The GTS eliminates the need for steam distribution conden- sate return systems, boiler chemical feed systems and boiler maintenance. DuPont showcased ZytelTM, a dura- ble nylon resin product being used in water he

22、aters and other products. The material showed almost no erosion in a water heater during a third-party test that simulated 10 years of domestic use. Mineral scale buildup was minimal and there was no erosion. Honeywell of Minneapolis introduced its Isolation Room Control System for healthcare facili

23、ties. The Isolation Room Control System allows healthcare facili- ties to contain infectious diseases effi- ciently and safely by maintaining air quality and circulation in isolation rooms. The system includes room pressure sen- sors, room monitor controllers, and volu- metric controllers that monit

24、or room status control pressure and maintain airflow. Also dis- played was an updated version of the Ex- cel Building Supervisor Workstation. Lau Industries, Dayton, Ohio, intro- duced the DDSI and SIDD single inlet whee

26、l and housings. The DDSI configu- ration is a direct-drive application with the motor mounted in the inlet. SIDD also is a direct-drive application, but with the motor placed opposite the inlet. Mertik Maxitrol of Quedlinburg, Germany, introduced a new gas-water combination control for use on instan

27、ta- neous water heaters. The non-electric GW40 series is designed to provide con- sistent water temperatures, even as end- users select wide variations in water flow. Single-handed operation controls piezo ignition and gas flow. The Ultimate Spike Defense was dis- played by Lincoln Electric Motor Di

28、- vision. The unique in-slot winding technique diminishes the effect of IGBT high voltage spikes on magnet wire in- sulation. This is accomplished by auto- matically positioning each turn within the stator winding to reduce the impact of the voltage spikes across adjacent turns. The result is superi

29、or resistance of dV/dT voltage spikes and excellent re- sistance to Corona. Parker Hannifin of Cleveland, Ohio, displayed its new bi-flow liquid line filter dryer. The company says the dryer provides more than three times the filtration of standard bi-flows. It is de- signed for use in heat pumps us

30、ing 4 l OA and 407C and the new polyolester lubri- cants, but also can be used with other re- frigerants and lubricants. The dryer is recmmended for systems of five tons (17.6 kW) and above. Liebert Corporation of Columbus, Ohio, introduced its new Dual Unit Con- trolTM (DUC), an electrical timer-ba

31、sed control that switches the operating se- quence of two Liebert InteleCoolTM units on a one, two, four or eight-day basis. The company also introduced a new heat energy converter, a slide-chart with con- version scales for rated kilowatts and losses, Btu/h, and tons of cooling. The chart helps eng

32、ineers determine selection factors for precision air conditioning. CSI Control Systems of Carrollton, Tex., showcased its UNET family of products. The stand-alone and net- worked systems allow users to accom- plish a variety of tasks from a common interface. The flexible, fully expandable I/NET feat

33、ures plug-and-play hardware, and has visually intuitive software so even a novice can perform functions and view critical information. Owens Corning of Toledo, Ohio, in- troduced Sticky Steel, a constrained lay- er dampening material with an adhesive backing that relieves noise generated by HVAC uni

34、t vibrations. Applications in- clude heat pump or furnace cabinets to stiffen the metal housing and reduce the oil-canning, fluttering and banging that occurs when the system turns on. It also can be used between the motor and the mount to reduce vibration and relieve resonance throughout the unit.

Indirect cooling iso- lates the cabinet environment from the room environment while keeping the cabinet at the desired temperature. The key to this design is a compact, hig

40、h ef- ficiency air-to-air heat exchanger manu- factured by Des Champs. Dectron of Virginia Beach, Va., in- troduced the RKG Series of 100 percent outdoor air dehumidifier rooftop pack- age units with integral natural gas heat- ing that provides up to eight stages of heat. The RKG Series comes in 11

41、units ranging from 480 to 15,000 cfm (227 to 7079 Lis). The RKG Series has a gas heating range of 20,000 to 1.5 million Btuk (6 to 440 kW), while also offering 3.5 to 45 hp (2.6 to 34 kW) compressors. Structural North America of Char- don, Ohio, introduced composite pres- sure vessels, made with Owe

42、ns Corning glass fiber rovings. The Polythenn tanks consist of a seamless, rotationally mold- ed thermoplastic shell that is filament wound with Owens Corning glass fibers for strength and pressure. The glass fiber rovings help the tanks maintain ASME standards. There is less maintenance re- quired

43、for the tanks because of the glass fiber-reinforced polymer shell. Air Sox of Louisville, Ky., offers reliable draft-free air distribution and climate control solutions in a wide vari- ety of HVAC applications. 47、clud- ing Circon, CSI Control Systems International, Danfoss, Electronic Sys- tems USA, Honeywell, HyCal, Johnson Controls, McQuay, Siebe Environmental Controls and Square D. The LonWorks protocol, called LonTalk, is part of the MAC layer of the ASHRAE BACnet protocol for building controls. LonWorks

48、 networks are designed for real-time con- trol with smart sensors, actuators, drives, VAVs and micro controllers. Spirax Sarco of Allentown, Pa., un- veiled its new Steam Trap Management System (STM). The STM steam trap management system was developed to assist steam users in management of their ste

Included in the system is a remarkable hand-held computer and software system, a dock- ing station and cabling, and data man- agement software that can be installed on a PC or network. EngelHardICC of Philadelphia an- nounced that it has expanded its Desert Cool product line to 12 models. The units substantially broaden the companys Desert Cool (natural gas, propane, steam, hot water and waste heat powered) prod- uct offering from the DC020 which can deliver 2,000 cfm (944 Lis) to the DC130 which can deliver 13,000 cfm (6 135 Lh).
