15、-FOREWORDThe American National Standards Committee B107, Socket Wrenches and Drives, under spon-sorship of The American Society of Mechanical Engineers, was reorganized as an ASME StandardsCommittee and its title was changed to Hand Tools and Accessories. In 1996 its scope wasexpanded to address saf

16、ety considerations.The purposes of this Standard are to define performance and safety requirements specificallyapplicable to crowfoot wrenches and to specify test methods to evaluate performances relatingto the defined requirements.Members of the Hand Tools Institute Wrench Standards Committee have

17、been major contribu-tors to the development of this Standard in their committee work, their knowledge of the products,and their active efforts in the promotion of the adoption of the Standard.This Standard is a revision of ASME B107.21-1998 Wrench, Crowfoot Attachments (Inch Series).Principal change

18、s in this edition of the Standard are the addition of safety requirements, improvedconsistency of classification and dimensioning, and updating to conform to the structure andformat of other B107 standards.The format of this Standard is in accordance with The ASME Codes however, theyshould not conta

19、in proprietary names or information.Requests that are not in this format may be rewritten in the appropriate format by the Committeeprior to being answered, which may inadvertently change the intent of the original request.ASME procedures provide for reconsideration of any interpretation when or if

29、MarkingEach wrench shall be marked in a permanent mannerwith the nominal wrench opening size and the manufac-turers name or trademark of such known character thatthe manufacturer may be readily determined.4.2 MaterialsThe materials used in the manufacture of the wrenchesshall be such as to produce w

30、renches conforming to thisstandard.4.3 HardnessThe wrench shall be heat treated to a hardness of38 HRC to 54 HRC.4.4 Proof TorqueWhen tested as specified, wrenches shall withstandthe proof torque specified in the applicable tables with-out failure or permanent deformation (set), which mightaffect du

31、rability or serviceability of the wrenches.4.5 Wrench Openings4.5.1 Wrench openings shall be such as to ensureacceptance when gaged with gages conforming to ASMEB107.17M.4.5.2 Internal drive end dimensions shall conformto ASME B107.4M, except as noted in para. 4.7. Twosides of the internal drive squ

34、.(b) Modified Single or Double Hexagon Configuration.This design consists of a geomtric single (6 point) hexa-gon or a double (12 point) hexagon configuration havingan across-flats and a modified or radial relieved acrosscorner shape to ensure noncontact with the corners ofhexagon and 12 point faste

35、ners.(c) Open End Configuration. This design consists of asimple geometric configuration having an across-flatsshape for fit up with hexagon fasteners.4.6 FinishWrenches shall be free from rust, burrs, pitts, nodules,blisters, cracks, or other conditions that may impair ser-viceability, safety, dura

36、bility, or appearance.4.6.1 Surface Finish. Forge flash shall be completelyremoved from the periphery of the drive end and theflare nut and open end portions of the wrench. Anyremaining forge flash on any remaining surfacesbetween the heads shall blend smoothly with adjacentsurfaces. External sharp

37、edges shall be broken to 0.016 in.(0.41 mm) radius minimum, and shall not project morethan 0.016 in. (0.41 mm) from adjacent surfaces.4.6.2 Coatings. The wrench shall be coated with oneof the coatings in accordance with para. 4.6.2(a), (b),or (c).(a) Chrome Plate. The coatings shall be electrodepos-

38、ited metals consisting of nickel followed by chromium.The minimum thickness shall be 0.00015 in. (0.0038 mm)for nickel or iron-nickel, and 0.000003 in. (0.000076 mm)for chromium, unless the wrench passes the test inpara. 5.3.(b) Oxide Coating or Phosphate Coating. Coating shallconsist of a chemicall

39、y produced oxide or phosphate,followed with a coating of rust preventive.(c) Alternate Coatings. Alternative coatings may beused in lieu of nickel-chromium and shall be subjectedto the Alternative Coating Test as specified in para. 5.3.4.7 DesignWrenches shall be designed to allow accessibility tofa

40、steners in confined and restricted areas. The internaldrive surfaces, and the nut and bolt head engaging sur-faces of the flare nut and open end openings, shall befinished in a smooth and well-defined manner. The cor-ners and/or serrations in the openings shall be clearlydefined (not smeared or torn

41、). Type I wrenches shall bechamfered on both sides to provide a lead for the work-ing surfaces. The slotted opening on Type I wrenches,and tips of all open ends on Type II wrenches, shall bechamfered or rounded to eliminate burrs.2When the internal drive end is furnished with a holeor recess for eng

42、agement of the ball/plunger on corres-ponding external drive end and the length of engage-ment of the external drive tang is less than twice thedimension of Dfin Table 7 of ASME B107.4M, the holeor recess shall be central in the corresponding internaldrive.4.7.1 Type I, Flare Nut. Type I wrenches sh

43、all havethe flare nut design (see Figs. 1 and 2). The wrench shallhave an internal drive opening at one end and a wrenchopening to drive hexagonal fasteners. See Tables 1through 4M.The slotted opening may be rotated from the center-line of wrench.4.7.2 Type II, Open End. Type II wrenches shall havet

44、he open end design (see Fig. 3). The wrench shall havean internal drive opening at one end and open wrenchend at the other end. See Tables 5 through 7.5 TEST PROCEDURESThe tests specified herein are inherently hazardousand adequate safeguards for personnel and propertyshall be employed in conducting

45、 these tests.5.1 HardnessHardness shall be tested in accordance with ASTME 18. When surface preparation is necessary, the amountof material removed shall not exceed 0.007 in. (0.18 mm)in the area contaced by the indenter.5.2 Proof Torque TestLoad tests shall be conducted on the sample wrenchesto det

46、ermine conformance with the applicable test loadrequirements specified in para. 4.5.5.2.1 Mandrels for Wrench Openings. The wrenchesshall be tested on mandrels conforming to Table 8 or8M as applicable. Mandrels shall be hardened to a mini-mum of 55 HRC and smoothly finished on the wrenchengaging sur

47、faces.5.2.2 Application of Proof Torque. Wrench openingsshall be gaged prior to testing. The torque shall beapplied with a suitable torque producing machine tomandrels that are fully seated and extend through thewrenching surfaces. Above 50% of peak value, torqueshall be applied at a speed of 15 deg

48、/min to 30 deg/min until peak value is verified, then torque shall bereleased. Following the removal of the proof torque,wrench openings will be regaged. Wrenches that do notsustain the proof torque or crack, fracture, or slip on themandrel, have failed the test. The wrench shall also beconsidered t
