19、pon-sorship of The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), was reorganized on June 28,1967, as an ASME Standards Committee, and its title was changed to Hand Tools and Accessories.In 1996, its scope was expanded to include safety considerations.In 1999, ASME initiated a project to consolida

20、te hand tool standards by category of tool. Theinitial implementation included distinct standards within a single publication bearing a three-digit number corresponding to the responsible B107 subcommittee. It was intended that subse-quent revisions would integrate the component standards, resulting

21、 in a more traditional docu-ment. This revision redefines types and classes of screwdrivers and screwdriver bits; designationsare provided in Nonmandatory Appendix A.The purposes of this Standard are to define dimensional, performance, and safety requirementsspecifically applicable to screwdrivers a

22、nd screwdriver bits, to specify test and gaging methodsto evaluate performance relating to the defined requirements, and to indicate limitations ofsafe use.This Standard may be used as a guide by state authorities or other regulatory bodies in theformulation of laws or regulations. It is also intend

25、al specifications for flat tip screwdrivers were derived from manufac-turers catalogs. Over a period of several years, members of the B107 Committee reviewed andreevaluated the dimensions against the corresponding standards produced by the ASME B18Committee for the Standardization of Bolts, Nuts, Ri

26、vets, Screws, Washers, and Similar Fasteners.Members of the HTI Screwdriver Standards Committee sourced related fasteners to validate thatthey are being produced in conformance with the applicable standards. Marking

49、shall beas permanent as the normal life expectancy of the screw-driver to which it is applied (providing the markedsurface has not been subjected to a fretting or abradingaction) and be capable of withstanding the cleaning pro-cedures normally experienced during its intended use.5.4 FinishMetallic components of screwdrivers and bits shall beessentially free from scale, seams, laps, cracks, or anycondition that may adversely affect durability or service-ability of the tool.Screwdrivers and bits shall be treated in a manner toresist rust or corrosion.
