This Standard addresses thesituation where no standards are li
14、sted on an engineering drawing; this may cause contract orlegal issues.When an engineering drawing is produced, regardless of the country it was produced in, itmust be based on a set of standards or it is not interpretable. ASME recommends that everydrawing should have its applicable standards state
15、d on the drawing, in a document referencedonthedrawing,orincontractuallyimposeddocuments.The standardsmaybecompany,regional,national, or international standards.Where the applicable engineering drawing standards, surface texture standards, or measure-ment standards are not indicated by one of these
16、methods, the interpretation of the engineeringdrawing and the measurement methods are unspecified. Unfortunately, there are many drawingsin industry that do not have any indication as to which standards are to be used for interpretation.The purpose of this Standard is to identify the set of engineer
17、ing drawing, surface texture,and measurement standards as de facto standards to apply to engineering drawings where nostandards areindicated onthe drawing,in adocument referencedon thedrawing, orin contractu-ally imposed documents.ASMEhasthreecommitteesthatproducestandardsthataffectdrawingspecificat
18、ion,interpreta-tion, and measurement practices.
