It is not the intentof this Standard to be a standalone document for the purpose of addressing basic practices. Anaccurate perception of engineering drawing practices is de

27、rived by treating ASME Y14.100,ASME Y14.24, ASME Y14.34, ASME Y14.35, and ASME Y14.41 as a composite set.The initial attempt to convert the DoD drawing practices standard, MIL-STD-100, to a nongov-ernment standard resulted in two drawing practices standards: ASME Y14.100M-1998, whichconsisted of bas

28、ic practices common to DoD and industry, and MIL-STD-100G, which consistedof those practices and requirements unique to DoD. The impact on the community was thatjudgments on when to use which Standard as a standalone or in combination was causing agood deal of confusion. The consensus was that one s

29、tandard was needed. To accomplish this,this Standard contains appendices that may be invoked and tailored by DoD, thereby makingpossible the cancellation of MIL-STD-100.The revision of this Standard was initiated after the official release of ASME Y14.100-2013.Changes contained in this revision are

30、intended to improve standardization and harmonizepractices and methodology between industry and government.It is not the intent of this Standard to prevent individual organizations from designing specificdrawing practices that meet their individual needs, but rather to provide common engineeringdeli

31、neationstandardstoaidtheincreasinginterchangeofdrawingsbetweenindustry,government,and otherusers. When individualcompanies have detailedrequirements for theirspecific methodof operation, it shall be noted on the drawing or by tailoring the contract. Consequently, theminimum requirements set forth in

32、 this Standard will provide them flexibility in implementation.The appendices are intended for use by other than strictly commercial applications, such as DoD.However, nothing prevents commercial organizations from using the appendices and tailoringthem as necessary to meet their own needs.The succe

39、hegovernment for activity identification. This method of activity identification has also been widely adopted byindustry. CAGE Codes are listed in Cataloging Handbook H4/H8.3.12 Contractcontract: a mutually binding legal relationship obligating the seller to furnish the supplies or services, includi

40、ngconstruction, and buyer to pay for them. It includes all types of commitments that obligate the procuring activityto an expenditure of appropriated funds and that, except as otherwise authorized, are in writing. In addition tobilateral instruments, contracts include, but are not limited to, awards

41、 and notices of awards; job orders or taskletter issued under basic ordering agreements; letter contracts; orders, such as purchase orders, under which thecontract becomes effective by written acceptance or performance; and bilateral contract modifications.3.13 Contractorcontractor: an individual, p

42、artnership, company, corporation, association, or other service having a contract for thedesign, development, manufacture, maintenance, modification, or supply of items under the terms of a contract.3.14 Controlled Mediacontrolled media: engineering data or manufacturing tools that include manufactu

43、ring processes required to achieveengineering interchangeability or replaceability requirements.3.15 Copycopy: any reproduction or duplication, in any media, of an original.3.16 Critical Safety Characteristiccritical safety characteristic: any feature, such as tolerance, finish, material composition

44、, manufacturing, assembly, orinspection process or product that, if nonconforming or missing, could cause the failure or malfunction of thecritical safety item.3.17 Critical Safety Item (CSI)Critical Safety Item: a part, assembly, installation, or production system with one or more critical characte

45、ristics that,if not conforming to the design data or quality requirements, would result in an unsafe condition.3.18 Critical Safety Process (CSP)Critical Safety Process: any fabrication, manufacturing, assembly, installation, maintenance, repair, or other processor procedure that implements a safety

46、 design feature or satisfies system safety requirements.3.19 Cryptographic Keycryptographic key: a string of bits used widely in cryptography to encrypt and decrypt data.3.20 Data Setdata set: see product definition data set.5ASME Y14.100-20173.21 Design Activitydesign activity: an organization that

47、 has, or has had, responsibility for the design of an item.3.21.1 Current Design Activitycurrent design activity: the design activity currently responsible for the design of an item.
