9、ng the needs andbenefits associated with standard qualifications for professionals using the Y14.5 Standard,established the Y14.5.2 Subcommittee on Certification in October 1988. The Subcommitteewas instructed to develop a standard that could be used as the basis of an ASME Programfor Certification

10、of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing Professionals (GDTP). Thisprogram provides the means to ensure proficiency in the understanding and application ofthe geometric dimensioning and tolerancing principles expressed in Y14.5. Those principlesform an essential element of engineering language.This

11、 is a voluntary standard which sets forth the qualifications for two levels of certification.The first level, Technologist GDTP, provides a measure of an individuals ability tounderstand drawings which have been prepared using the language of Geometric Dimensioningand Tolerancing, as defined in the

12、Y14.5 Standard. The second level, Senior GDTP, providesthe additional measure of an individuals ability to select and apply geometric controls todrawings.Primary changes to this revision are higher percentages of questions per section to increasethe applications emphasis on geometric dimensioning an

13、d tolerancing and the criteria forpassing the examination.ASME codes and standards are developed and maintained with the intent to representthe consensus of concerned interests. Revisions will be made periodically to the Standardto incorporate changes that appear necessary or desirable, as demonstra

14、ted by the experiencegained from the application of the requirements. Approved revisions will be publishedperiodically.The Committee welcomes proposals for revisions to this Standard. Such proposals shouldbe as specific as possible: citing the paragraph number(s), the proposed wording, and adetailed

Certification will be

26、 based upon thecurrent edition of the Y14.5 Dimensioning and Toleranc-ing Standard, its appendices, and the application of itsprinciples and concepts.1.2 PURPOSEThis Standard provides requirements and qualifica-tions to be used in certifying GDTPs. These require-ments and qualifications recognize th

27、e knowledge, train-ing, and the experience necessary to understand, apply,and teach the principles as set forth in the current1edition of Y14.5.
