6、esses the development and promulgation of performance standards designed to safeguard public health and safety.Standards for the performance of components of systems of plumbing are considered by ASSE International to be of great value in the development of improved plumbing systems for the increase

7、d protection of public health and safety.Cross-connections between the potable water supply and a possible source of contaminated liquids in a plumbing system is a recognizable potential hazard to health and safety. Much research and educational work has been done by this Society in the search for a

8、dequate preventive means. There are many dangerous situations which have had little recognition. The ASSE is vigorously attacking these problems by creating performance standards for devices tailored to negate the conditions:1) Which can cause the flow of contaminants into the potable water supply s

9、ystem.2) Responsible for the flow of contaminants into the potable water supply system.One of the many hazards which is generally ignored, is that created by connecting the common garden hose to the potable water supply by means of a hose threaded outlet. In this application, back-siphonage, due to

10、the creation of a vacuum in the supply line, or back pressure, due to the terminal end of the hose being at an elevation above the hose connection of the system simultaneously with loss of supply pressure, can cause contaminants to flow into the potable supply. Another hazard is created by attaching

11、 insecticide or agricultural spraying devices and other types of dispensers containing toxic materials to the hose. All of these are highly dangerous conditions to which persons may be exposed unless means are applied to protect the potable water in the system.This standard is tailored specifically

12、for hose threaded outlet (hose bibb or sill cock) faucets in potable water supply systems. To be effective, this device must be so installed that the air ports cannot be submerged.iv Hose Connection Vacuum BreakersASSE #1011 - 2004These performance criteria recognize and embrace the many conditions

13、involved, the known causes, and essential preventive means disclosed by extensive laboratory and field research and experience. In its text are the essential performance criteria and test procedures designed to prove the capabilities of the devices to comply with this criteria.Although many of the m

14、aterial specifications are detailed within Section IV of this Standards, it is the responsibility of the manufacturer to comply with the requirements of the Safe Drinking Water Act, United States Public Law 93-523.The working group which developed this standard revision, was set up within the framew

15、ork of the Product Standards Committee of ASSE International.Recognition is made of the time volunteered by members of this working group and of the support of the manufacturers who also participated in the meetings for this standard.The standard does not imply ASSEs endorsement of a product which c

16、onforms to these requirements.Compliance with this standard does not imply acceptance by any code body.Plumbing codes mandate how and where these devices are installed. However, this standard was promulgated using a specific set of installation requirements and conditions for the purpose of providin

17、g reasonable performance requirements and compliance testing.It is recommended that these devices be installed consistent with local codes by qualified and trained professionals.This standard was promulgated in accordance with procedures developed by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).

29、utants or contaminants that can enter the system through backpressure equal to from an elevated hose equal to ar leass than 10.0 feet (3.0 meters) in height 4.3 psi (29.9 kPa) and backsiphonage through the hose threaded outlets.1.2 Scope1.2.1 DescriptionThis standard applies only to those devices cl

30、assified as Hose Connection Vacuum Breakers which are designed to be installed on the discharge side of the hose bibb, hydrant or faucet which is fitted with hose threads. The design embraces a check valve member force loaded, or biased, to a closed position, and an atmospheric vent valve, force loa

31、ded, or biased, to an open position when the device is not under pressure. This device shall not be subjected to more than twelve (12) hours of continuous water pressure. This device shall only be used on systems where the only source of low head back pressure comes from an elevated hose equal to or

32、 less than 10.0 feet (3.0 meters) in height.1.2.2 SizesSizes shall include 1/2 NPHS, 3/4 NPHSand 1 NPHS male hose threaded outlets.1.2.3 PressureThe devices shall be designed for a minimum working pressure of 125.0 psi (861.9 kPa).1.2.4 Temperature RangeThe devices shall be designed for flow tempera

33、tures of 33.0 F to 180.0 F (0.6 C to 82.2 C).1.2.5 Mechanical Function1.2.5.1 Atmospheric Vent(a) The atmospheric vent shall be open when the supply pressure is at atmospheric as defined in Section 3.7.(b) The atmospheric vent shall open when subjected to conditions defined in Section 3.9.(c) The at

35、s of the devices of the same size and model shall be interchangeable with the original parts.1.3 Reference StandardsReference to industry standards shall be the latest edition of these standards.Hose Connection Vacuum Breakers 3ASSE #1011 - 2004Section II2.0 Test Specimens2.1 Samples Submitted for T

36、estThree (3) devices of each size and model shall be submitted by the manufacturer. Tests shall be performed in the order listed on one (1) device of each size submitted.2.2 Samples TestedThe testing agency shall select one (1) of each size and model for the full test. The manufacturer shall, at his

37、 option, supply separate devices for Section 3.9 with the fouling wire applied. 2.3 DrawingsAssembly drawings and other data which are necessary to enable a testing agency to determine compliance with this standard, together with installation drawings, shall accompany devices when submitted for exam

38、ination and performance tests under this standard.2.4 RejectionFailure of one (1) device shall be cause for rejection of that size or model until the manufacturer has corrected the fault and submitted new devices for testing.4 Hose Connection Vacuum BreakersASSE #1011 - 2004Section III3.0 Performanc

39、e Requirements and Compliance Testing3.1 Hydrostatic Pressure Tests3.1.1 PurposeThe purpose of this test is to determine if the device withstands a pressure of 250.0 psi (1723.8 kPa), or two (2) times the manufacturers maximum rated working pressure, whichever is greater.3.1.2 ProcedureThe device sh

40、all be installed in the open position on the test system, as shown in Figure 1, with the inlet connected to an ambient water supply and the throttling valve open. The device shall be purged of air, and the throttling valve closed. The device shall be pressurized to 250.0 psi (1723.8 kPa) or the manu

41、facturers maximum rated working pressure, whichever is greater. The pressure shall be held for not less than five (5) minutes.Figure 1NOTE: Differential gauge connections shall be ring piezometers per ISA 75.02.3.1.3 CriteriaAny indication of external leakage shall result in the rejection of the dev

42、ice.3.2 Water Flow Capacity and Pressure Loss3.2.1 PurposeThe purpose of this test is to determine the pressure losses at various flow rates. 3.2.2 ProcedureThe device shall be installed as shown in Figure 1 in a test system equipped with means for accurately measuring the rate of water flow and pre

43、ssure loss across the device.After purging the system of air, close the throttling valve. 45、ne if the device continues to function without leakage when exposed to the maximum rated temperature and pressure.3.3.2 ProcedureWater at a temperature of 180.0 F 5.0 F (82.2 C 3.0 C) or the manufacturers maximum rated temperature, whichever is greater, and at a pressure of 125.0 psi (861.9 kPa) or

46、the manufacturers maximum rated pressure, whichever is greater, shall be circulated at a flow per Table 1 through the device for eight (8) hours per day for a total of ten (10) days.3.3.3 CriteriaAny indication of external leakage shall result in a rejection of the device.3.4 Life Cycle Test3.4.1 Pu

47、rposeThe purpose of this test is to determine if there is any deterioration of performance upon the completion of five thousand (5000) cycles.3.4.2 ProcedureInstall the device with ambient water at the manufacturers maximum rated working pressure being applied at the inlet. The device shall be cycle

48、d using a solenoid valve upstream of the device with the device outlet open to atmosphere. The device shall be cycled for five-thousand (5000) cycles. Cycling of the solenoid valve shall not exceed thirty (30) times per minute.3.4.3 CriteriaFailure of the device to comply with the remaining sections

49、 of this standard shall result in a rejection of the device.3.5 Resistance to Bending3.5.1 PurposeThe purpose of this test is to determine if the device continues to function without leakage when subjected to a pull of 100.0 pound (45.4 kg) on a hose applied perpendicular to the device.6 Hose Connection Vacuum BreakersASSE #1011 - 20043.5.2 ProcedureWith the device installed as shown in Figure 2, apply a load equivalent to a pull of 100.0 pounds (45.4 kg) in a direction at right angles to the axis through the hose connections at the outlet of the d
