6、are developed in the interest of consumer safety.Water distribution systems are equipped with air valves and air vents at multiple locations to release and admit air into pipelines and reservoirs to allow filling and draining, control surges, and maintain flow efficiency. If the valve or reservoir o

7、utlets become flooded or are the target of malicious tampering, the air entry point may be compromised and allow the entry of floodwater or the intentional introduction of a contaminate to the water system. The Air Valve and Vent Inflow Preventer is directly connected to air valve outlets and reserv

8、oir vent pipes. This device is normally open to allow unrestricted airflow in and out of pipelines and reservoirs during normal conditions. When a flood occurs, a float-operated closure member automatically closes to prevent the entry of contaminated fluids. A redundant, float-operated closure membe

9、r automatically closes if the first one fails. The device is mounted in or near air valve vaults or reservoir vents. Recognition is made of the time volunteered by members of the working group and of the support of the manufacturers who also participated in the meetings for this standard.This standa

20、 the “assembly”) is to allow the release and admission of high volumes of air through air valves and air vents in water distribution systems but prevent the entry of contaminated water when the air valve outlet becomes submerged from flooding or is the target of malicious tampering.1.2 Scope1.2.1 De

21、scriptionThis assembly shall consist of a primary and a secondary chamber. Each chamber shall contain an independent float-operated closure member. The primary chamber is the lower chamber. The secondary or upper chamber is redundant and will close in the event the primary chamber fails to close. Ot

22、her configurations achieving the perfor-mance requirements of this standard are acceptable.1.2.2 Size Range and ConnectionsSizes 1 to 4 NPS (25 to 100 mm) shall be furnished with an NPTF threaded connection. Sizes 6 to 16 NPS (150 to 400 mm) shall be furnished with a flanged connection.1.2.3 Pressur

23、e RangeThe assembly shall be designed and constructed for an operating pressure range of 9.7 psia (66.9 kPaabsolute) to 25.0 psi (172.4 kPa).1.2.4 Temperature RangeThe assembly shall function at temperatures from 32.0 F to 150.0 F (0 C to 65.6 C).1.3 Limitations on Design1.3.1 Flow Design Flow ways

24、through the entire assembly passage-way shall be as follows:a) The least cross-sectional area of the air flow ways, including the seat areas, shall not be less than the inside cross-sectional area of the same NPS.b) The manufacturer shall furnish a sectional print of the assembly with all of the dim

25、ensions needed to enable a verification of the passage-way areas.c) The assembly shall, at a minimum, pass the required volume of air according to Table 1.2 Air Valve and Vent Inflow PreventerASSE Standard #1063 - 2008Table 11.3.2 FunctionThe assembly shall be normally open to allow sustained ventin

26、g of air at the rate given in Table 1 and remain open when the flow is reversed at the same rate. During the flowing conditions, the differential pressure between the inlet piping and atmosphere shall not exceed that given in Table 1.1.3.3 Outlet BasketThe assembly shall be shielded from incoming de

27、bris with a screened basket containing 1/4 inch ( 6 mm) diameter openings to prevent plugging and sealing of the device outlet and exhibiting an open flow area equal to at least four (4) times the cross sectional area of the same NPS.1.3.4 LeakageThe assembly shall not permit water leakage past both

28、 chambers when pressurized to 12.0 inches (304.8 mm) water column above the seats.1.3.5 Connections1.3.5.1 Female Pipe Threaded ConnectionsFemale pipe threaded connections shall conform to the requirements of ASME B1.20.1, and be tapped into a hex-agonal boss capable of withstanding without deformat

31、0 ductile iron flanges, and ASME B16.5 for Class 150 steel flanges. The flange shall be of sufficient thick-ness to withstand the rated pressure. 1.3.6 RepairabilityThe internal parts of the assembly shall be accessible for testing, inspection, repairs or replacements. The design shall permit servic

32、ing and field testing without removing the assembly from the water distribution system. 1.3.7 Test Cock LocationsTest cocks shall be provided in the following locations:(a) On the top surface of the assembly adjacent to the inlet connection.(b) In the top chamber below the top check seat.(c) In the

Tests shall be performed in the order listed on one (1) assembly of each model and size submitted.2.3 DrawingsAssembly a

37、nd installation drawings and other data which are needed to enable a testing agency to determine compliance with this standard shall accompany assemblies when submitted for examination and performance tests under this standard.2.4 RejectionFailure of one (1) device shall be cause for rejection of th

38、at type or model and size. Failure of one (1) assembly shall result in a rejection of that model and size.Air Valve and Vent Inflow Preventer 5ASSE Standard #1063 - 2008Section III3.0 Performance Requirements and Compliance Testing3.1 Hydrostatic Testing of Complete Device3.1.1 PurposeThe purpose of

39、 this test is to demonstrate the assemblys ability to withstand a pressure of 50.0 psi ( 344.7 kPa) or two (2) times the manufacturers maximum rated working pressure, whichever is greater.3.1.2 ProcedureSecure the assembly in the inverted orientation (to hold the floats off of the seats) and block t

40、he outlet with an ex-pandable plug or blind flange as shown in Figure 1. Connect a water supply at ambient temperature to the inlet of the assembly, and fill the assembly completely by bleeding air out of the top test cock. Apply a pressure of 50.0 psi ( 344.7 kPa) or two (2) times the manufacturers

41、 maximum rated working pressure, whichever is greater, for ten (10) minutes. Examine the assembly for leaks.Figure 13.1.3 CriteriaAny leaks through the body or the body flanges or indications of damage shall result in a rejection of the assembly.3.2 Water Tightness Test of Float-Operated Checks3.2.1

42、 PurposeThe purpose of this test is to demonstrate the float checks ability to provide a water tight seal at low pressures.6 Air Valve and Vent Inflow PreventerASSE Standard #1063 - 20083.2.2 ProcedureConnect the test apparatus with a 1.0 inch (25.4 mm) diameter riser tube as shown in Figure 2. Bloc

43、k the outlet (bottom) with an expandable plug or blind flange. Open test cocks #1 and #2. Open the supply valve to fill the float check assembly and riser tube to 12.0 inches (304.8 mm) above the seat. Close the supply valve, and allow the water to stabilize in the riser tube for one (1) minute. Mar

44、k the water height on the tube, and observe the water level for five (5) minutes. Repeat the test with the supply connected to test cock #2.Figure 23.2.3 CriteriaA drop in water column height greater than 1/8 inch (3.2 mm) for either seat test shall result in a rejection of the assembly.3.3 Allowabl

45、e Pressure Loss at Rated Air Flow3.3.1 PurposeThe purpose of this test is to verify the pressure drop through the assembly at the air flow capacity given in Table 1 of this standard. 3.3.2 ProcedureInstall the assembly as shown in Figure 3. Connect a schedule 40 steel air supply line equal to the as

46、sembly size. The test setup shall have an airflow measuring device to measure the flow rate in the piping and a pressure trans-ducer for measuring the pressure change in the piping system. The air flow measuring device shall be capable of measuring the air flow up to the capacity range given in Tabl

47、e 1 for the sizes to be tested with a 5% accuracy. The pressure transducer shall be 10.0 psi ( 68.9 kPa) full scale with a 5% full scale accuracy. The fan or suitable air source shall be capable of delivering the air flow within the capacity range given in Table 1.Activate the fan or pressure source

48、 until the flow rate specified in Table 1 is achieved. Subtract the test piping pressure loss from the assembly pressure loss, and record the net pressure loss.3.3.3 CriteriaPressure losses greater than those specified in Table 1 shall result in a rejection of the assembly.3.4 Vacuum Flow Test3.4.1 PurposeThe purpose of this test is to determine the functionality of the assembly during vacuum flow conditions.3.4.2 ProcedureInstall the assembly in a test pipe of sufficient diameter to
