3、overs three Types and two Grades ofcold formed electric-fusion (arc) welded high-strength low-alloy steel tubing of 50 ksi 345 MPa minimum yield point foruse in welded or bolted construction of buildings and forgeneral structural purposes.1.2 This tubing is produced in square and rectangular sizeswi

4、th a periphery of 200 in. 500 cm or less and a specified wallthickness of 1.00 in. 25 mm or less. Tubes are joined by twolongitudinal electric-fusion (arc) welds. Circumferential weldsare disallowed. Sizes outside of those listed in Tables 4 and 5may be ordered provided all other requirements of the

5、 speci-fication are met. Typical lengths are 15 to 50 ft. 5 to 15 m.NOTE 1Products manufactured to this specification may not besuitable for those applications such as dynamically loaded elements inwelded structures, etc. where low-temperature toughness properties maybe important. (See Supplementary

6、 Requirement S1.)1.3 This specification covers the following Types:1.3.1 Type 1Welded with backing, backing left in theproduct,1.3.2 Type 2Welded with backing, backing removed,1.3.3 Type 3Welded without backing.1.4 Tubing is available in Grades 50 345 and 50W345W. Grade 50 345 is manufactured from h

7、igh-strengthlow-alloy steel. Grade 50W 345W is manufactured fromhigh-strength low-alloy steel with enhanced atmospheric cor-rosion resistance. (See 10.1.2) The Grades may not be inter-changed without approval of the purchaser. ASTM Specifica-tions for plate that may be applied to Grade 50 345 and 50

8、W345W are listed in Reference Documents and in Table 1.1.5 This specification is expressed in both inch-pound unitsand in SI units; however, unless the purchase order or contractspecifies the applicable M specification designation (SI units),the inch-pound units shall apply. The values stated in eit

9、her SIunits or inch-pound units are to be regarded separately asstandard. Within the text, the SI units are shown in brackets.The values stated in each system may not be exact equivalents;therefore, each system shall be used independently of the other.Combining values from the two systems may result

Manufacture5.1 The steel from which the tubing is made shall conformto Specifications A242/A242M, A572/A572M, A588/A588M,A656/A656M, A709/A709M

22、,orA945/A945M. The Specifi-cations are identified in Table 1 according to Grade 50 345 orGrade 50W 345W. The choice of Grade and ASTM Standardsteel material is at the manufacturers option unless identifiedin the purchase order (See Supplementary Requirement S3).5.2 Two equally shaped pieces of flat-

23、rolled plate product ofthe same ASTM plate specification shall be press brake formedinto halves of the finished size. Types 1 and 2 tubing shall havecontinuous backup bars tack welded to each leg of one of thehalf-sections. The two half sections shall be fitted together andarc welded with two seam w

24、elds to complete the tubing. Type2 tubing shall have the backing removed after seam welding.Type 3 tubing shall be manufactured without backup bars.5.3 The electric-fusion (arc) weld shall be deposited by thesubmerged arc welding process, flux cored arc welding processor gas metal arc welding proces

25、s. The electrode shall be ofmatching strength.5.4 Grade 50W 345W backing shall be enhanced atmo-spheric corrosion resistant material. The electrode shall complywith atmospheric corrosion resistance requirements.5.5 The standard weld shall be a partial joint penetrationSingle-V-groove weld with groov

26、e depth not less than eightypercent of the material thickness. For complete joint penetra-tion welds, see Supplementary Requirement S2.5.6 The seam welds shall join the smaller flat sides of thestructural section. (See Supplementary Requirement S4 for theoption of joining the larger flat sides).5.7

27、Welding shall be in accordance with AWS D1.1, latestedition.6. Material6.1 Table 1 identifies ASTM high-strength low-alloy stan-dard specification steel from which the tubing shall be manu-factured. Some Specifications have more than one Grade orType. The Specifications provide chemical compositions

28、.7. Mechanical Properties7.1 The material as represented by the steel producer shallconform to the requirements of Table 2.8. Permissible Variations in Dimensions8.1 Outside DimensionsThe outside dimensions measuredacross the flats at positions at least 2 in. 50 mm from the endsof the tubing shall n

29、ot vary from the specified outside dimen-sions by more than the applicable amount given in Table 3.Measurement shall not include the weld reinforcement. 35、dby holding one end of the tubing down on a flat surface plate,measuring the height that each corner on the bottom side of thetubing extends above the surface plate near the opposite endsof the tubing, and calculating the twist (difference in heights ofthe corners). For heavier sections it shall be

36、permissible to usea suitable measuring device to determine twist. Twist measure-ments shall not be taken within 2 in. 50 mm of the ends of thetubing.8.8 Weld ReinforcementThe weld reinforcement shall notexceed 0.125 in. 3 mm.9. Inspection9.1 All tubing shall be visually inspected (VT) at the placeof

37、 manufacture to ensure conformance to the requirements ofthis specification.9.2 All tubing shall be free of injurious defects and shallhave a workmanlike finish.10.
