Scope1.1 This specification covers castings made of high-siliconmolybdenum ferritic iron, commonly known as SiMo. Thisspecification includes cast

3、ings with microstructures of spheroi-dal graphite (SG) SiMo iron, compacted graphite (CG) SiMoiron, and mixed graphite or medium-nodularity graphite (MG)SiMo iron. MG iron microstructure comprises a mixture ofspheroidal and compacted graphite shapes. This standardspecifies the condition, chemical co

4、mposition, microstructure,and other technical requirements of three grades of ferritic castirons, specified as SG SiMo, MG SiMo, and CG SiMo.1.2 No precise quantitative relationship can be stated be-tween the properties of iron in the various locations of the samecasting or between the properties of

5、 castings and those of a testspecimen cast from the same iron.1.3 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded asstandard. Materials and Manufacture4.1 The manufacturer shall produce high-silicon molybde-num iron castings with a microstructure consisting of apredominantly ferritic matrix in the as-cast condition. Smallamounts of flake graphite in the surface react

18、ion zone areallowed only when agreed between the manufacturer andpurchaser.4.2 High-silicon ferritic SiMo iron castings are typicallysupplied in the as-cast condition. If heat treatment is agreedbetween the manufacturer and purchaser, castings can be eitherfully or subcritically annealed. The recomm

19、ended heat treat-ment practice is provided in Appendix X3.5. Chemical Composition5.1 Chemical requirements for each grade are specified inTable 1. Chemical composition shall be determined fromchilled disk samples or samples representative of the castingsand in accordance with the applicable sections

20、 of Test MethodsD1976, E351, and E1999, Practice E1184, and Guide D5381.5.2 When agreed between the manufacturer and purchaser,chemistry control ranges may be tighter than those specified inTable 1.5.3 Controlling the carbon equivalent is important toachieve uniform graphite distribution and to mini

21、mize solidi-fication shrinkage and graphite flotation. The carbon equivalentcontrol range shall be established by the manufacturer toproduce castings that meet the chemical composition ranges inTable 1, the microstructure requirements in Section 6, and themechanical properties in Table 2.5.4 Chromiu

22、m can improve heat resistance of SiMo ironcastings. Annealing heat treatments should be utilized if Crcontent exceeds 0.10 %.5.5 The total concentrations of alloy elements includingMo, Mn, Ni, Cu, W, V, Nb, and Cr shall not exceed 2.5 %.5.6 The lower limit of phosphorus for SG SiMo iron isspecified

23、to eliminate the brittleness at medium temperature ofapproximately 425C.6. Microstructure6.1 The matrix requirements for the three grades of SiMoirons are the same: predominantly ferritic, a maximum 5 %primary carbides, and adjacent to the cell boundaries, amaximum 30 % Mo-rich precipitates.6.2 All

24、the three grades of SiMo iron castings for whichchemical composition is specified in Table 1 shall be substan-tially free of flake, exploded, chunky, crab, spiky, and floata-tion graphite. Flake graphite is permitted in the surface reactionzone to a maximum depth of 0.30 mm for sections 10 mm andto

25、a maximum depth of 0.60 mm for sections 10 mm.6.3 For SG SiMo iron, the graphite in the microstructureshall consist of a minimum 80 % Type I and Type II graphiteaccording to Test Method A247.6.4 For CG SiMo iron, the graphite in the microstructureshall consist of a minimum 60 % Type IV graphite; the

26、remaining graphite shall be a combined maximum 40 % TypeI, Type II, and Type III graphite according to Test MethodA247 and Specification A842.6.5 For MG SiMo iron, the graphite in the microstructureshall consist of a minimum 40 % of Type I and Type II graphiteaccording to Test Method A247 and a rang

27、e of 30 to 60 % TypeIV graphite according to Test Method A247 and SpecificationA842.6.6 The volume fraction of graphite is typically in the rangeof 8 to 14 %. Mechanical Properties7.1 Tensile testing sp

31、ecimens shall be taken from separatelycast coupons unless otherwise agreed between the manufac-turer and purchaser. Brinell hardness testing specimens may betest coupons or castings or both (see Section 8).7.2 The iron as represented by the test specimens shallconform to the requirements in Table 2

32、for tensile propertiesand hardness at room temperature. The tensile testing shallproceed in accordance with Test Methods E8/E8M for roomtemperature and Test Method E21 for elevated temperature. Ifthe test results fail to conform to the requirements, two retestsshall be performed with specimens remov

33、ed from test couponsor castings produced using the same casting conditions. Ifeither retest fails to meet the specification requirements, thecastings represented by these test specimens shall be subject torejection.7.3 Yield strength shall be determined using the 0.2 % offsetmethod in accordance wit

34、h Test Methods E8/E8M. Brinellhardness shall be determined in accordance with Test MethodE10.7.4 The tensile properties at 425C are listed in Table 3 forreference (nonmandatory) information to monitor the possiblebrittleness at medium temperature. The medium temperature isdefined in the range of 350

35、 to 500C.8. Test Coupons8.1 Test coupons for microstructure determination and me-chanical properties testing may be separately cast or attached tocastings. Separately cast test coupons shall be poured from thesame iron as the castings they represent. This means the samechemical composition, the same

36、 inoculation practice, and anequivalent cooling rate. The details of test coupons includingcoupon type, size, location, sampling methods and othercoupon-related control plans shall be agreed between themanufacturer and purchaser.8.2 The type of metallographic specimen used shall beagreed between the

37、 manufacturer and purchaser. Three types ofmetallographic specimens may be used: (1) separately castcoupons, (2) a test lug cast with castings or attached to thepouring basin or cup, and (3) specimens cut from castings.8.3 Separately cast test coupons shall be Y-blocks, keelblocks, or modified keel

38、blocks in accordance with Specifica-tions A395, A476/A476M, A536, A842, and A897/A897M.8.3.1 The bottom Y-block thickness shall be 13 mm forcasting thickness 38 mm.8.3.2 Leg thickness of keel blocks shall be 25 mm forcasting thickness 13 to 38 mm. For other casting thickness, thekeel block thickness

39、 shall be changed according to 8.3.1.8.3.3 Modified keel blocks of 25 mm bar diameter can besubstituted for the 25-mm Y-block or the 25-mm keel block.8.3.4 The coupon molds shall have a thickness equal orgreater than the coupon thickness. The coupons shall be left inthe mold until they have cooled t

40、o a black color (500C).8.3.5 If the test bars show obvious defects, additional barsshall be cut from other test blocks representing the same iron.8.4 When castings made in accordance with this specifica-tion are produced by spheroidization directly in the mold, themanufacturer may use either separat

41、ely cast test coupons or testspecimens cut from castings. When separately cast test cou-pons are used, selection shall be according to 8.1. If test barsare to be cut from castings, test bar location shall be agreedbetween the manufacturer and purchaser and shall be indicatedon the casting drawing or

42、 model.9. Additional Tests9.1 In addition to the chemical, microstructure and me-chanical requirements in Sections 57, other special tests suchas nondestructive testing (radiographic soundness, liquid pen-etrant examination, magnetic particle inspection, leakage test-ing) may be agreed between the m

43、anufacturer and purchaser.Refer to Specification A834 for a list of common requirementsfor iron castings not specifically referenced elsewhere in thisspecification.10. Workmanship, Finish, and Appearance10.1 The castings shall be free of injurious defects. Surfaceof the castings shall be free of bur

44、nt-on sand and shall bereasonably smooth. Runners, risers, and other cast-on piecesshall be removed. In other respects, the castings shall conformto whatever points may be specifically agreed upon betweenthe manufacturer and the purchaser.10.2 No repairing by plugging or welding of any kind shallbe

45、permitted unless written permission is granted by thepurchaser.11. Inspection and Quality11.1 At the time of an order, the purchaser should establishan agreement for quality and inspection requirements with themanufacturer.11.2 Unless otherwise specified in contract or purchaseorder, the manufacture

46、r shall be responsible for carrying out allthe tests and inspections required by this specification. Thepurchaser reserves the right to perform any of the inspectionsset forth in the specification where such inspections are deemednecessary to assure supplies and services conform to theprescribed req

47、uirements.12. Product Marking13.1 When the size of the casting permits, each casting shallbear the cast date, the part or pattern number, and theidentifying mark of the manufacturer. The cast date may becoded. The cast date, identifying mark of the manufacturer, andthe part or pattern number shall be at a location shown on thecasting drawing or model, or if not shown on the drawing ormodel, at a location selected at the discretion of the manufac-turer.14. Packaging and Package Marking14.1 Unless otherwise stated in the con
