17、he longitudinal edges of the steel shall be shaped togive the most satisfactory results by the particular weldingprocess employed. The steel shall then be properly formed andmay be tacked preparatory to welding. The weld shall be madeby automatic means (except tack welds) and shall be ofreasonably u
18、niform width and height for the entire length of thepipe. By agreement between the purchaser and themanufacturer, manual welding by qualified procedure andwelders may be used as an equal alternate under this specifi-cation.5.2 All longitudinal seams, spiral seams, and shop girthseams shall be butt-w
19、elded.6. Number of Production Weld Tests6.1 One weld test specimen specified in Section 8 shall bemade from each lot of 3000 ft (900 m) of pipe or fractionthereof of each size and wall thickness.6.2 If any test specimen shows defective machining ordevelops flaws not associated with the welding, it m
20、ay bediscarded and another specimen substituted.6.3 Each length of pipe shall be subjected to the hydrostatictest specified in Section 11, unless otherwise specified in 11.3.7. Retests7.1 If any specimen tested in accordance with Section 10fails to meet the requirements, retests of two additionalspe
21、cimens from the same lot of pipe shall be made, each ofwhich shall meet the requirements specified. If any of theretests fail to conform to the requirements, test specimens maybe taken from each untested pipe length at the manufacturersoption. Each specimen shall meet the requirements specified,or t
22、hat pipe shall be rejected.8. Test Specimens of Production Welds8.1 The weld-test specimens for the reduced-section tensiontest shall be taken perpendicularly across the weld and from theend of the pipe or, alternatively, from flat test pieces of materialconforming to the requirements in the specifi
23、cations used in themanufacture of the pipe. The alternative weld-test specimensshall be welded with the same procedure and by the sameoperator and equipment, and in sequence with the welding ofthe longitudinal joints in the pipe. The test pieces shall have theweld approximately in the middle of the
24、specimen. Thespecimens shall be straightened cold, and shall be tested atroom temperature.8.2 Reduced-section tension-test specimens shall be pre-pared in accordance with Fig. 21 of Test Methods andDefinitions A370.9. Qualification of Welding Procedure9.1 The welding procedure shall be qualified in
25、accordancewith the American Welding Society Standard QualificationProcedure6or ASME Section IX of the Boiler and PressureVessel Code as agreed to between the manufacturer and thepurchaser using the tests and test values specified in 9.2 and9.3. Thicknesses less than38 in. (10 mm) shall be qualified
26、foreach wall thickness of pipe manufactured. Thicknesses38 to34in. (10 mm to 19.0 mm), inclusive, shall be qualified in38-in.(10-mm) thickness.9.2 Two reduced-section tension specimens (transverseweld) made in accordance with Fig. 21 of Test Methods andDefinitions A370, with the weld reinforcement r
27、emoved, shallshow a tensile strength not less than 100 % of the minimumspecified tensile strength of the base material used.9.3 Two face-bend test specimens shall be prepared inaccordance with Fig. 2(a) of Test Methods and DefinitionsA370 and shall withstand being bent 180 in a jig substantiallyin a
28、ccordance with Fig. 30 of Test Methods and DefinitionsA370. The bend test shall be acceptable if no cracks or otherdefects exceeding18 in. (3.2 mm) in any direction be present inthe weld metal or between the weld and the pipe metal afterbending. Cracks that originate along the edges of the speci-men
29、s during testing and that are less than14 in. (6.3 mm) inany direction, shall not be considered.10. Tensile Properties of Production Welds10.1 Reduced-section tension test specimens required inSection 8, taken perpendicularly across the weld with the weldreinforcement removed, shall show a tensile s
30、trength not lessthan 95 % of the specified minimum strength of the steel. Atthe manufacturers option, the test may be made withoutremoving the weld reinforcement, in which case the tensilestrength shall be not less than the specified minimum tensilestrength for the grade of steel used.11. Hydrostati
31、c Test (Note 5)11.1 Each length of pipe shall be tested by the manufacturerto a hydrostatic pressure that will produce in the pipe wall astress of 60 % of the specified minimum yield point of the steelused at room temperature. 37、statically Tested” and the specification number andmaterial grade, as shown on the certification, shall be followedby the letters “NH.”12. Permissible Variations in Weights and Dimensions12.1 Thickness and WeightThe wall thickness and weightfor welded pipe under this specification shall be governed
38、bythe requirements of the specifications to which the steel wasordered.12.2 CircumferenceThe outside circumference of the pipeshall not vary more than 60.5 % from the nominal outsidecircumference based upon the diameter specified, except thatthe circumference at ends shall be sized, if necessary, to
39、 meetthe requirements of Section 14.12.3 StraightnessFinished pipe shall be commerciallystraight. When specific straightness requirements are desired,the order should so state, and the tolerances shall be a matter ofagreement between the purchaser and the manufacturer.12.4 OvalityOut-of-roundnessThe
40、 difference betweenmajor and minor outside diameter shall not exceed 1 %. Closertolerances may be established by agreement between themanufacturer and the purchaser. Where the D/T (outsidediameter/wall thickness) is over 120, internal bracing should beutilized to achieve sizing of ends and ovality s
41、hall be byagreement between the manufacturer and purchaser.13. Lengths13.1 Pipe lengths shall be supplied in accordance with thefollowing regular practice:13.1.1 The lengths shall be as specified on the order with atolerance of 612 in. (13 mm), except that the shorter lengthsfrom which test coupons
42、have been cut may also be shipped.13.1.2 When random lengths are specified, pipe shall befurnished in lengths having a minimum average of 29 ft (9 m)with a minimum length of 20 ft (6 m), but not more than 5 %may be under 25 ft (8 m).13.2 Pipe lengths containing circumferentially welded joints(Note 8
43、) shall be permitted by agreement between the manu-facturer and the purchaser. Tests of these welded joints shall bemade in accordance with the procedure tests specified inSection 9 and the production weld tests specified in Section 10.The number of production weld tests shall be one per each lotof
44、100 joints or fraction thereof, but not less than one for eachwelder or welding operator.NOTE 8Joints are defined for the purpose of this specification as acircumferential welded seam lying in one plane, used to join lengths ofstraight pipe.14. Ends14.1 Pipe shall be furnished with a plain right-ang
45、le cut orwith bevel ends as specified. All burrs at the ends of pipe shallbe removed.14.1.1 Unless otherwise specified, pipe with beveled endsshall meet the requirements of ANSI B 16.25.14.2 Unless otherwise specified, the outside circumferenceof pipe ends for a distance of not less than 4 in. (100
46、mm) shallnot vary more than 660 % of the nominal wall thickness of thepipe from the nominal outside circumference based on thediameter specified, except that the tolerance shall not be lessthan 6316 in. (5 mm).14.3 By agreement between the manufacturer and the pur-chaser the ends of the pipe may be
47、sized within agreed-upontolerances if necessary to meet the requirements of specialinstallations.15. Finish15.1 Repair by WeldingThe welding of injurious defectsin the pipe wall, provided their depth does not exceed one thirdthe specified wall thickness, will be permitted. Defects in thewelds, such
48、as sweats or leaks, shall be repaired or the piecerejected at the option of the manufacturer. Repairs of thisnature shall be made by completely removing the defect,cleaning the cavity, and then welding.15.2 All repaired pipe shall be tested hydrostatically inaccordance with Section 11, unless otherw
49、ise specified in 11.3.16. Inspection16.1 The inspector representing the purchaser shall haveentry at all times while work on the contract of the purchaseris being performed, to all parts of the manufacturers worksthat concern the manufacture of the material ordered. Themanufacturer shall afford the inspector all reasonable facilitiesto satisfy him that the material is being furnished in accordancewith this specification.All tests and inspection shall be made atthe place of manufacture prior to shipment and unless other-wise specified, shall be so conducte
