General Requirements and Ordering Information3.1 Plates supplied to this product specification shall con-form to Specification A 20/A 20M, which outlines the testingand retesting methods and procedures, permissible

8、variationsin dimensions and mass, quality and repair of defects, marking,loading, etc.3.2 Specification A 20/A 20M also establishes the rules forordering information that should be complied with whenpurchasing plates to this specification.3.3 In addition to the basic requirements of this specifica-t

9、ion, certain supplementary requirements are available whereadditional control, testing, or examination is required to meetend use requirements.3.4 The purchaser is referred to the listed supplementaryrequirements in this specification and to the detailed require-ments in Specification A 20/A 20M.3.5

10、 Coils are excluded from qualification to this specifica-tion until they are processed into finished plates. Platesproduced from coil means plates that have been cut toindividual lengths from coil. The processor directly controls, oris responsible for, the operations involved in the processing ofcoi

11、ls into finished plates. Such operations include decoiling,leveling, cutting to length, testing, inspection, conditioning,heat treatment (if applicable), packaging, marking, loading forshipment, and certification.NOTE 1For plates produced from coil and furnished without heattreatment or with stress

12、relieving only, three test results are reported foreach qualifying coil. Additional requirements regarding plates from coilare described in Specification A 20/A 20M.3.6 If the requirements of this specification are in conflictwith the requirements of Specification A 20/A 20M, the re-quirements of th

Materials and Manufacture4.1 Steelmaking PracticeThe steel shall be killed andshall conform to the fine austenitic grain size requirement ofSpec

16、ification A 20/A 20M.5. Heat Treatment5.1 Grade D plates of all thicknesses and Grade C plates ofthicknesses over 2 in. 50 mm shall be normalized.5.2 Grade C plates 2 in. 50 mm and under in thickness areusually supplied in the as-rolled condition. The plates may beordered normalized or stress-reliev

17、ed, or both.6. Chemical Composition6.1 The steel shall conform to the chemical requirementsgiven in Table 1, unless otherwise modified in accordance withSupplementary Requirement S17, Vacuum Carbon-DeoxidizedSteel, in Specification A 20/A 20M.7. Mechanical Properties7.1 Tension TestThe plates, as re

18、presented by the tensiontest specimens, shall conform to the requirements given inTable 2.7.2 For plates with a nominal thickness of34 in. 20 mmand under, the 112-in. 40-mm wide rectangular specimen maybe used and the elongation determined in a 2-in. 50-mm gagelength that includes the fracture and t

19、hat shows the greatestelongation.SUPPLEMENTARY REQUIREMENTSSupplementary requirements shall not apply unless specified in the purchase order.A list of standardized supplementary requirements for use at the option of the purchaser is includedin Specification A 20/A 20M.
