Ordering Information4.1 It is the responsibility of the purchaser to specify allrequirements that are necessary for material ordered u
18、nder thisspecification. Such requirements may include, but are notlimited to the following:4.1.1 Quantity (weight or number of pieces).4.1.2 Heat treatment, if required (see Section 5).4.1.3 Dimensions, including the thickness of the claddingalloy and the backing steel, or of the total composite pla
19、te andif more or less restrictive thickness tolerances apply.4.1.4 Cladding alloy specification (see Section 6).4.1.5 Base metal specification (see Section 6).4.1.6 Product analysis, if required. Specify whether appli-cable to the cladding alloy, backing steel, or both (see Section10).4.1.7 Mechanic

21、ification, certain supplementaryrequirements are available when necessary to meet the end userequirements. These include:4.2.1 Nondestructive examination,4.2.2 Impact testing, and4.2.3 Simulated Post-Weld Heat Treatment of MechanicalTest Coupons (SPWHT).4.3 The purchaser is referred to the listed su
22、pplementaryrequirements in this specification and to the detailed require-ments in Specification A 20/A 20M. If the requirements of thisspecification are in conflict with the requirements of Specifi-cation A 20/A 20M, the requirements of this specification shallprevail.4.4 Special tests.5. Materials
23、 and Manufacture5.1 Process:5.1.1 The steel shall be made by the open-hearth, electric-furnace (with separate degassing and refining optional), orbasic-oxygen processes, or by secondary processes wherebysteel made from these primary processes is remelted using, butnot limited to electroslag remeltin
24、g or vacuum arc remeltingprocesses.5.1.2 The cladding metal may be metallurgically bonded tothe base metal by any method that will produce a clad steel thatwill conform to the requirements of this specification.5.2 Heat TreatmentUnless a specific heat treatment isrequired by the cladding material or
25、 base steel specification, orunless otherwise agreed upon by the purchaser and manufac-turer, the clad plate shall be furnished in a condition that isappropriate for the cladding alloy, base metal, or both.6. Chemical Composition6.1 The composite plate may conform to any desired com-bination claddin
26、g metal and base metal as described in 6.2 and6.3, and as agreed upon between the purchaser and themanufacturer.6.2 Cladding MetalThe nickel or nickel-base alloy clad-ding metal specified shall conform to the requirements as tochemical composition prescribed for the respective metal inSpecifications
27、 B 127, B 162, B 168, B 333, B 409, B 424,B 443, B 463, B 575, B 582, and B 625, or other nickel-basealloy as agreed upon by the purchaser and manufacturer.6.3 Base MetalThe base metal shall be carbon steel orlow-alloy steel conforming to the ASTM specifications forsteels for either pressure vessels
28、 or general structural applica-tions, or other, as agreed upon by the purchaser and manufac-turer. The base metal shall conform to the chemical require-ments of the specification to which it is ordered.7. Mechanical Properties7.1 Tensile Requirements:7.1.1 The tensile properties shall be determined
29、by a tensiontest of the composite plate for clad plates that meet all of thefollowing conditions.(1) The nominal composite gage is less than or equal to 112in (38 mm).(2) The specified minimum tensile strength of the base steelis less than or equal to 70 000 psi (485 MPa).(3) The specified minimum y
30、ield strength of the base steelis less than or equal to 40 000 psi (275 MPa).(4) The tensile properties thus determined shall not be lessthan the minimum and not more than 5000 psi (35 MPa) overthe maximum prescribed in the specification for the base steelused. All other tensile test requirements of
31、 the specification forthe base steel shall be met.7.1.2 The tensile properties shall be determined by atension test of the base steel only for clad plates that meet oneof the following conditions. The properties thus determinedshall meet all of the tensile test requirements for the base steel.(1) Th
32、e composite gage is greater than 112 in. The tensileproperties thus determined shall meet the base steel require-ments.7.2 Test for strength of the bond, when required, must bespecified by the purchaser and shall consist of one of thefollowing.7.2.1 Shear StrengthWhen required by the purchaser, theminimum shear strength of the alloy clad
35、ding and base metalsshall be 20 000 psi (140 MPa). The shear test, when specified,shall be made in the manner indicated in Fig. 1. The minimumcladding thickness for shear testing shall be 0.075 in. (1.9 mm)exclusive as ordered. Testing for shear strength for clad plateswith minimum cladding thicknes
36、s of 0.075 in (1.9 mm) or lessshall be permitted upon agreement between the purchaser andthe manufacturer.7.2.2 Bond StrengthAs an alternative to the shear strengthtest provided in 7.2.1 or when agreed upon by the purchaserand the manufacturer, or both, three bend tests shall be madewith the alloy c
37、ladding in compression to determine the qualityof the bond. These bend tests shall be made in the manner ofthe tension tests indicated in Fig. 2 and shall be bent through anangle of 180 to the bend diameters provided for in eitherSpecification A 6/A 6M or Specification A 20/A 20M (Appen-dix X4, or e
38、quivalent), as applicable. At least two of the threetests shall show not more than 50 % separation on both edgesof the bent portion. Greater separation shall be cause forrejection.7.3 Methods and practices relating to mechanical testingrequired by this specification shall be in accordance with theTe
39、st Methods and Definitions of A 370.8. Number of Tests and Retests8.1 One or more tension tests, as required by the specifica-tions for the base metal and when specified, one shear test orthree bond bend tests shall be made, representing each plate asrolled. Each specimen shall be in the final condi
40、tion of heattreatment required for the plate, including any SPWHT ifrequired.8.2 If any test specimen shows defective machining ordevelops flaws, it may be discarded and another specimensubstituted.9. Test Specimens9.1 The tension test specimens shall conform to the require-ments prescribed in the s
41、pecifications for the base metal.9.2 Bend test specimens for the alternative bond strengthtests shall be taken at right angles to its longitudinal axis.9.3 When required by the purchaser, the shear test specimenshall be taken near a top or bottom corner of the plate as rolled,parallel to its longitu
42、dinal axis, or other location that isrepresentative of the final product.9.4 For plates 112 in. (38 mm) and under in thickness,tension test specimens shall be the full thickness of thematerial, except as specified in 7.1.2 and 7.1.3.9.5 For plates over 112 in. (38 mm) in thickness, tensiontests shal
43、l be of the form shown in Fig. 3 and shall be of allbase steel conforming to the requirements of the specificationfor the base steel.9.6 The bend test specimen used for bond strength determi-nation shall be 112 in. (38 mm) by not more than34 in. (19 mm)in thickness and shall be machined to the form

(3.1 mm). The sides of the bend testspecim
48、en used for bond strength determination may have thecorners rounded to a radius not over116 in. (1.6 mm) for plates,2 in. (50 mm) and under in thickness, and not over18 in. (3.1mm) for plates over 2 in. (50 mm) in thickness.10. Product Analysis10.1 Product analysis may be required for the cladding a
49、lloyon finished product. Chemical analysis may be accomplishedby wet chemical or instrumental procedures. If wet chemicalprocedures are used, millings may be taken only when thecomposite plate thickness is sufficient to permit obtainingmillings without danger of contamination from the adjacentlayer. If spectrometric procedures are used, the sample shall beexposed on the center line of the cladding when there issufficient cladding thickness available so that there is nocontamination from the adjacent base metal.10.2 If product analysis is specified by the
