8、ion3.1 Plates supplied to this product specification shall con-form to Specification A 20/A 20M, which outlines the testingand retesting methods and procedures, permissible variationsin dimensions and mass, quality and repair of defects, marking,loading, and so forth.3.2 Specification A 20/A 20M als

9、o establishes the rules forordering information that should be complied with whenpurchasing plates to this specification.3.3 In addition to the basic requirements of this specifica-tion, certain supplementary requirements are available whereadditional control, testing, or examination is required to

10、meetend use requirements.3.4 The purchaser is referred to the listed supplementaryrequirements in this specification and to the detailed require-ments in Specification A 20/A 20M.3.5 Coils are excluded from qualification to this specifica-tion until they are processed into finished plates. Platespro

11、duced from coil means plates that have been cut toindividual lengths from coil. The processor directly controls, oris responsible for, the operations involved in the processing ofcoils into finished plates. Such operations include decoiling,leveling, cutting to length, testing, inspection, condition

12、ing,heat treatment (if applicable), packaging, marking, loading forshipment, and certification.NOTE 1For plates produced from coil and furnished without heattreatment or with stress relieving only, three test results are reported foreach qualifying coil. Materials and Manufacture4.1 Steelmaking PracticeThe steel shall be killed a

17、ndshall conform to the fine grain size requirement of Specifica-tion A 20/A 20M.5. Heat Treatment5.1 Plates 2 in. 50 mm and under in thickness are normallysupplied in the as-rolled condition. Plates may be orderednormalized or stress relieved, or both.5.2 Plates over 2 in. 50 mm in thickness shall b

18、e normal-ized.5.3 When normalizing plates 4 in. 100 mm or over inthickness, the cooling rate may be accelerated by air blasting orliquid quenching to obtain mechanical properties comparableto those developed by normalizing plates in the lesser thick-nesses.5.4 If approved by the purchaser, for plate

19、s less than 4 in.100 mm in thickness, cooling rates faster than those obtainedby cooling in air are permissible for improvement of tough-ness, provided the plates are subsequently tempered in thetemperature range from 1100 to 1300F 595 to 705C.6. Chemical Composition6.1 The steel shall conform to th

20、e chemical requirementsshown in Table 1 unless otherwise modified in accordance withSupplementary Requirement S17, Vacuum Carbon-DeoxidizedSteel, in Specification A 20/A 20M.7. Mechanical Properties7.1 Tension Test RequirementsThe plates, as representedby the tension test specimens, shall conform to

21、 the require-ments given in Table 2.7.1.1 For accelerated cooled plates with a nominal thicknessof34 in. 20 mm or less, the 112-in. 40-mm wide rectangularspecimen may be used for the tension test, and the elongationmay be determined in a 2-in. 50-mm gage length thatincludes the fracture and that sho
