Scope*1.1 This specification covers alloy steel castings that havebeen subjected to special heat treatment for valves, flanges,fittings, and other pressure-containing parts (Note 1) intendedprimarily for high-temperature service.1.2 The high-temperature properti
4、es of the materials cov-ered in this specification are dependent upon special heattreatment that is required. Although the high-temperatureproperties are not specified, they are implied by control ofchemistry, heat treatment, and room-temperature properties.1.3 Two grades of ferritic alloy steel are
5、 covered (Note 2).Selection will depend on the design and service conditions,mechanical properties, and high-temperature characteristics.NOTE 1Carbon steel castings for pressure-containing parts are cov-ered by Specification A216/A216M. 6、E 2The grades covered by this specification represent materialsthat are generally suitable for assembly with other castings or wroughtsteel parts by fusion welding. It is not intended to imply that these gradespossess equal degrees of weldability; therefore, it is the responsibility ofthe purchaser
7、to establish for himself a suitable welding technique. Sincethese grades possess varying degrees of suitability for resistance tooxidation and for high-temperature service, it is also the responsibility ofthe purchaser to determine which grade shall be furnished, due consider-ation being given to th
8、e requirements of the applicable construction codes.1.4 The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound unitsare to be regarded separately as standard. The values stated ineach system may not be exact equivalents; therefore, eachsystem shall be used independently of the other. Combiningvalues fro

Ordering Information4.1 The inquiry and order should include or indicate thefollowing:4.1.1 A description of the casting by pattern number ordrawing (dimensional tolerances shall be
21、 included on thecasting drawing),4.1.2 Grade of steel,4.1.3 Options in the specification, and4.1.4 The supplementary requirements desired, includingthe standards of acceptance.5. Heat Treatment5.1 All castings shall receive a heat treatment proper to theirdesign and chemical composition. Heat treatm
22、ent shall beperformed before machining, except in instances when reheattreating is necessary. All castings shall have been allowed tocool, after pouring, to a temperature below the critical rangebefore heat treatment.5.2 At the option of the manufacturer, the castings may begiven any preliminary hea
23、t treatment that will aid in theirprocessing.5.3 All castings shall receive a final heat treatment consist-ing of normalizing and tempering at the temperature prescribedfor each grade in Table 1.5.4 Furnace temperatures for heat treating shall be effec-tively controlled by use of pyrometers.6. Chemi
24、cal Composition6.1 The steel shall conform to the requirements as tochemical composition prescribed in Table 2.7. Tensile Requirements7.1 Steel used for the castings shall conform to the require-ments as to tensile properties prescribed in Table 3.8. Quality8.1 The surface of the casting shall be ex
25、amined visuallyand shall be free of adhering sand, scale, cracks, and hot tears.Other surface discontinuities shall meet the visual acceptancestandards specified in the order. Visual Method SP-55 or othervisual standards may be used to define acceptable surfacediscontinuities and finish. Unacceptabl
26、e visual surface discon-tinuities shall be removed, and their removal verified by visualexamination of the resultant cavities. When methods involvinghigh temperature are used in the removal of discontinuities,castings shall be preheated to at least the minimum tempera-tures in Table 4.8.2 The castin
27、gs shall not be peened, plugged, or impreg-nated to stop leaks.9. Repair by Welding9.1 Repair shall be made by using a welding procedure andoperators qualified in accordance with Practice A488/A488M.The composition of the deposit weld material shall be similarto that of the casting, or of other comp
28、osition as may be agreedupon between the manufacturer and the purchaser. The castingsafter complement of weld repairing shall be retempered exceptthat local tempering of the weld repairs will be permitted if, inthe manufacturers opinion, complete furnace heat treatmentwould be damaging to the finish
29、ed surfaces of a machinedcasting. Heat treatments after weld repair other than temperingshall be performed only when agreed upon between themanufacturer and the purchaser.9.2 Weld repairs shall be considered major in the case of acasting that had leaked on hydrostatic test, or when the depthof cavit
30、y prepared for welding exceeds 20 % of the actual wallthickness or 1 in. 25.4 mm, whichever is smaller, or when theextent of the cavity exceeds approximately 10 in.264.5 cm2.When requested by the purchasers inspector, such weld repairsshall be subject to his approval. He shall also have the right to
