Materials and Manufacture4.1 Melting ProcessThe steel shall be made by the open-hearth, basic-oxygen, or electric-furnace process and shall bemade to a fine-grain practice.4.2 ForgingThe eyebolts shall be forged without welds.4.3 Heat TreatmentThe eyebolts shall b

18、e liquid quenchedand tempered prior to machining the threaded end.4.4 MachiningThe eyebolts shall be machined after thequench and temper operation.4.5 ThreadsThe eyebolts shall be threaded. Threads maybe rolled, cut, or ground.5. Chemical Composition5.1 LimitsThe eyebolts shall be manufactured from

19、steelshaving a heat analysis conforming to the requirements in Table1.5.2 Product Analysis:5.2.1 Analyses of finished eyebolts may be made by thepurchaser or may be requested to be made by the manufacturer.The composition thus determined shall conform to the productanalysis requirements specified in

20、 Table 1.5.3 Chemical analyses shall be performed in accordancewith A751 Test Methods, Practices, and Terminology forChemical Analysis of Steel Products.6. Mechanical Properties6.1 Proof LoadThe lifting eyes shall withstand the proofload specified in Table 2.6.1.1 The proof load is defined as the lo

21、ad that can beapplied to the eyebolt without causing permanent deformation.Prick punch marks shall be applied at opposite ends of thediameter across the eye. The proof load shall be applied byscrewing the eyebolt to the full thread engagement into a blocksecured in one jaw of the testing machine and

22、 held to the otherjaw by means of a mandrel passing through the eye. The roundmandrel shall have a diameter equal to one half of the insidediameter of the eye. The proof load shall be applied at amaximum cross head speed of 0.12 in. per minute, held for 10s. and then released. Permanent deformation

23、of the eyeboltexceeding 0.01 in. between the prick punch marks constitutesa failure.6.2 Breaking StrengthThe lifting eyes shall conform to thebreaking strength specified in Table 2.6.2.1 The breaking strength shall be determined by screw-ing the eyebolt to the full thread engagement into a blocksecu

24、red in one jaw of the testing machine and held to the otherjaw by means of a mandrel passing through the eye. The roundmandrel shall have a diameter equal to one half of the insidediameter of the eye. The load shall be applied at a maximumcrosshead speed of 0.12 in. per minute until fracture. Fractu

25、reof the eyebolt below the specified breaking strength or strip-ping of the threads constitutes a failure6.3 Tensile TestA specimen machined from a finishedeyebolt shall conform to the tensile requirements specified inTable 3.6.3.1 When the eyebolt is too small to have a tensile barmachined from it,

32、nd bent 45 by pressure, shall not exhibit anyvisible surface ruptures in the unthreaded section of the eyeboltwhen examined at 10 magnification.7. Dimensions7.1 The the eyebolts dimensions shall conform to therequirements in accordance with ASME B 18.15 unless other-wise specified.7.2 When dimension

33、s other than specified in 7.1 arerequired, they shall be in accordance with the purchasersdrawing. In such cases, the proof load and breaking strengthrequirements are not applicable because the manufacturercannot be assured that the purchasers proprietary design canwithstand the loads in this specif

34、ication. The machined speci-men tensile, impact, and bend tests shall apply in addition to allother requirements of this specification.8. Threads8.1 Threads shall be Class 2AUnified Coarse Thread Seriesin accordance with ASME B1.1.8.2 Thread gauging shall be System 21 in accordance withASME B1.3.9.

35、Workmanship, Finish, and Appearance9.1 The eyebolts shall be descaled.9.2 The eyebolts shall be free of injurious imperfections thatwould make them unsuitable for the intended use.9.3 The threads shall be undamaged upon receipt by thepurchaser as demonstrated by the ability to accept a Go Threadring

36、 gauge with normal hand force.9.4 When zinc electroplating is specified, the coating shallbe zinc Fe/Zn5 in accordance with Specification F1941/F1941M. When galvanizing is specified, the coating shall behot dip galvanized in accordance with Specification F2329/F2329M.10. Number of Tests and Retests1

37、0.1 Lot Definition:10.1.1 Alot shall consist of all eyebolts of one nominal sizeproduced from one heat of steel and heat treated at one time.10.1.2 If heat treated continuously rather than charge basis,then every 8 hours of continuous operation.10.2 Number of Tests:10.2.1 The necessary sampling plan

38、 and the number of teststhat must be performed to demonstrate that the requirements ofthis standard are met for each lot shall be in accordance withPractice F1470.11. Inspection11.1 The manufacturer shall afford the purchasers qualityassurance representative all reasonable facilities necessary tosat

39、isfy him that the eyebolts are being produced and furnishedin accordance with this specification. Mill inspection by thepurchaser shall not interfere unnecessarily with the manufac-turers operations.All tests and inspections shall be made at theplace of manufacture, unless otherwise agreed to.12. Re

40、jection and Rehearing12.1 The disposition of nonconforming lots shall be inaccordance with Section 8 of Practice F1470.13. Certification13.1 When specified by the purchaser, a test report shall befurnished for each lot showing the following:13.1.1 Heat analysis and heat number(s),13.1.2 Results of p

41、roof load, breaking strength, tensile, andbend tests,13.1.3 Statement of compliance with grain sizerequirements,13.1.4 Results of any supplementary requirements invoked,13.1.5 Purchase order number,13.1.6 Lot number(s), and13.1.7 ASTM specification number, including type, style,and date of issue.14.

42、 Responsibility14.1 The party responsible for the eyebolt shall be theorganization that supplies the eyebolt to the purchaser.15. Product Marking15.1 Each eyebolt shall have the manufacturers name oridentification mark and “A489” forged in raised characters onthe surface of the eyebolt.16. Packaging

43、 and Package Marking16.1 Packaging:16.1.1 Packaging shall be to the manufacturers standardpackaging practice or as agreed between the purchaser andsupplier.16.2 Package Marking:16.2.1 Each shipping unit shall include or be plainly markedwith the following information:16.2.1.1 ASTM designation and Ty

46、chase order. Details of these requirements shall be agreed upon in writing between themanufacturer and purchaser.S1. Individual Proof Load TestsS1.1 Proof load test shall be conducted on each eyebolt inaccordance with 6.1. The results shall be reported to thepurchaser.USER INFORMATIONEyebolts manufa

47、ctured in accordance with this standard should only be used at temperatures between 32 F and 275 F. Refer to ASMEB18.15 for additional usage guidance. For use at temperatures below 32 F, refer to alloy steel eyebolts in accordance with SpecificationF541.SUMMARY OF CHANGESCommittee F16 has identified

48、 the location of selected changes to this standard since the last issue (A48912)that may impact the use of this standard.(1) This standard has been completely re-written. Changes arenot identified due to the extent of the changes.(2) Load values in Table 2 were revised based on consistentrounding.(3

49、) Thread size in Table 2 corrected for typographical error.(4) Grain size testing has been deleted since current manufac-turing process make this unnecessary. The previous require-ment for a minimum grain size of 5 was not stringent.(5) Impact testing has been deleted since usage of carbon steeleyebolts should be restricted to greater than 32 F making suchtesting unnecessary.(6) Product marking (A489) was added to facilitate identifica-tion and to provide comparison with Specification F541produ
