Scope*1.1 This specificat
3、ion covers a group of common require-ments that, unless otherwise specified in the materialspecification, apply to hot-rolled and cold-rolled alloy steelsheet and strip under each of the following specifications:A506, A507, and A873/A873M.1.2 In case of any conflict in requirements, the requirements

Materials and Manufacture5.1 Melting ProcessUnless otherwise specified in theindi
19、vidual material specification, the steel may be made by anyprocess that produces material that conforms to the specifiedrequirements.5.2 Hot or Cold RollingThe sheet and strip shall beproduced by hot rolling or cold rolling, as specified in theindividual material specification and as specified on th
20、e order.5.3 Heat TreatmentWhen heat treatment is required, itshall be performed in accordance with the requirements speci-fied in the individual material specification. Heat treatmentmay be performed by either the manufacturer or the purchaser;however, if the purchaser intends to perform the heat tr
21、eatment,it shall be so stated on the order.5.3.1 Heat treatment terms shall be in accordance withTerminology A919.6. Chemical Requirements6.1 Cast or Heat Analysis of each cast or heat shall be madeby the manufacturer to determine the percentage of elementsspecified in the individual material specif
22、ication. This analysisshall be made from a test specimen preferably taken during theteeming of the cast or heat. The chemical composition thusdetermined shall be reported to the purchaser or his represen-tative upon request, and shall conform to the cast or heatanalysis requirements of the applicabl
23、e material specification.6.2 Product or Verification AnalysisAn analysis may bemade by the purchaser from finished material representing eachcast or heat. The composition thus determined shall conform tothe requirements for product analysis specified in the indi-vidual material specification or on t
24、he order; however, if onlycast or heat analysis requirements are specified in the materialspecification or on the order, the composition determined onproduct analysis shall conform to those requirements subject tothe product analysis tolerances specified in Table 2.6.3 Referee AnalysisIn case refere
25、e analysis is required toresolve a dispute concerning the results of a chemical analysis,the procedures for performing the referee analysis shall be inaccordance with Test Methods, Practices, and TerminologyA751.7. Metallurgical Structure7.1 The requirements for metallurgical structure, if any,shall
26、 be as specified in the individual material specification.8. Mechanical Property Requirements8.1 RequirementsThe requirements for mechanicalproperties, if any, shall be as specified in the individualmaterial specification.8.2 Number of TestsThe number of specimens shall be asspecified in the individ
27、ual material specification.8.3 Location and Orientation of Tension Test SpecimensUnless otherwise specified in the individual materialspecification, tension test specimens shall be the full thicknessof the material. The test coupons shall be taken from thematerial in its finished condition except as
28、 otherwise providedin 8.4; shall be taken approximately midway between the edgeand centerline of the sheet or strip; and shall be taken such thatthe long axis of the test specimen will be transverse to the finaldirection of rolling.8.4 Heat Treatment of Test Coupons:8.4.1 When heat treatment is requ
29、ired by the materialspecification and is to be performed by the purchaser or hisagent, and the material is to be supplied by the manufacturer ina condition other than that required by the materialspecification, the material shall be qualified on the basis of testsmade on specimens taken from coupons
30、, obtained from thematerial in its as-shipped condition, that have been heat treatedin accordance with the requirements specified in the materialspecification or on the order. If the heat-treatment temperaturesare not specified, the manufacturer shall heat treat the couponsunder conditions he consid
31、ers appropriate.8.4.2 When specified on the order, the test coupons may besubjected to additional heat treatment to simulate thermaltreatments that will be used during fabrication.8.4.3 The purchaser shall be informed of the proceduresfollowed in heat treating the test coupons.8.5 Test Methods:8.5.1
32、 All tests shall be conducted in accordance with TestMethods and Definitions A370.8.5.2 Yield strength shall be determined either by the 0.2 %offset method or by the 0.5 % extension-under-load method.9. Quality9.1 GeneralSheet and strip furnished under this specifi-cation shall be clean, sound, and
33、free of internal or externalimperfections which would make the material unsuitable forthe intended application. Care should be taken to avoid cracks,seams, slivers, grooves, laminations, pits, blisters, buckles, coilbreaks, creases, holes, pickling stains and patches, ragged andtorn edges, and “roll
34、ed-in” dirt and scale.A505 1629.2 Surface FinishThe degree or amount of surface im-perfections on material in cut lengths shall be such that only areasonable amount of metal finishing is required. Slight surfaceimperfections that are completely removable without reducingthe thickness below the minim
35、um permissible limits shall notbe considered to be defects. Coils may contain some abnormaldefects such as holes, welds, and so forth, which render aportion of the coil unusable, since the inspection of coils doesnot afford the same opportunity to reject portions containingdefects as is the case wit
36、h cut lengths. However, an excessivenumber of abnormal imperfections is cause for rejection.10. Edges10.1 EdgesThe types of edges procurable in hot-rolledand in cold-rolled alloy-steel sheet and strip are as follows:10.2 Hot-Rolled Sheet and Strip:10.2.1 Mill EdgeNormal edge produced in hot rolling
37、thatdoes not conform to any definite contour.10.2.2 Cut EdgeApproximately square edge resultingfrom the cutting of sheet into one or more desired widths bymeans of rotary knives (slit edge) or blade shears (shearededge).10.2.3 Square EdgeType of mill edge produced by hotedge-rolling; furnished on st
38、rip only.10.3 Cold-Rolled Sheet:10.3.1 Cut EdgeSame description as shown in 10.2.2 forhot-rolled sheet and strip.10.4 Cold-Rolled Strip:10.4.1 No. 1 EdgePrepared edge of a specified round orsquare contour that is produced when a very accurate width isrequired.10.4.2 No. 2 EdgeNatural mill edge carri

Permissible Variations in Dimensions11.1 The permissible variations in dimensions (see Table 3)for hot-rolled and cold-rolled alloy steel sheet and strip shall bein accordance with Tables 4-22.11.1.1 When thickness is measured u

Identification of Product12.1 As a minimum, the material shall be identified with themanufacturers name or brand, the specification designation,weight, purchasers order number, and material identificationwhich is traceable to the heat or
43、 cast.12.2 The identification shall be legibly stenciled on top ofeach lift or shown on a tag attached to each coil or shippingunit.12.3 When specified on the order, each sheet shall beidentified as agreed upon.13. Retests13.1 The retest provisions of Test Methods and DefinitionsA370 shall apply.13.
44、2 If the results of any tests do not conform to thespecified requirements, (unless otherwise specified in theindividual material specification), retests may be made ondouble the original number of specimens from the same lot,each of which must conform to the requirements specified. Ifthe results of
45、the retests do not conform to the specifiedrequirements, the lot shall be rejected.14. Inspection and Testing14.1 When the order specifies that the purchaser will inspectthe material and witness testing, the inspector representing thepurchaser shall have entry at all times while work on thecontract
46、of the purchaser is being performed, to all parts of themanufacturers works that concern the manufacture of thematerial ordered. The manufacturer shall afford the inspectorall reasonable facilities to satisfy the inspector that the materialis being furnished in accordance with the specification.14.2
47、 All tests (except product analysis) and inspection shallbe made at the place of manufacture before shipment, unlessotherwise specified on the order, and shall be so conducted asnot to interfere unnecessarily with the operation of the works.15. Rework and Retreatment15.1 If inspection and test resul
48、ts fail to conform to thespecified requirements, the material may be reworked orretreated, if the manufacturer can assure that the cause offailure is curable and that the quality of the material shallconform to the specified requirements. After retreatment,testing shall be done in accordance with th
49、e material specifi-cation requirements.16. Rejection Subsequent to Shipment16.1 Material that shows characteristics not in conformancewith the material specification subsequent to its initial accep-tance may be rejected. In such cases, the manufacturer shouldbe notified in a timely manner.17. Certification17.1 When specified on the order, a certification of compli-ance shall be furnished that the material was manufactured,sampled, tested, and inspected in accordance with the require-ments of the applicable specification.17.2 When specified on the order, a
