Scope*1.1 This specification covers deformed and plain carbon-steel bars in cut lengths and coils for concrete reinforcement.AnnexA2 of this specification covers deformed bars for use

4、forother applications. Steel bars containing alloy additions, suchas with the Association for Iron and Steel Technology and theSociety of Automotive Engineers series of alloy steels, arepermitted if the resulting product meets all the other require-ments of this specification. The standard sizes and

5、 dimensionsof deformed bars and their number designations are given inTable 1.1.2 Unless specified for use for other applications in AnnexA2, bars are of four minimum yield strength levels: namely,40 000 psi 280 MPa, 60 000 psi 420 MPa, 80 000 psi 550MPa, and 100 000 psi 690 MPa, designated as Grade

6、 40280, Grade 60 420, Grade 80 550, and Grade 100 690,respectively.NOTE 1Grade 100 690 reinforcing bars were introduced in thisspecification in 2015. In contrast to the lower grades, which have ratios ofspecified tensile strength to specified yield strength that range from 1.31to 1.5, Grade 100 690

7、reinforcing bars have a ratio of specified tensilestrength to specified yield strength of 1.15. Designers should be aware thatthere will, therefore, be a lower margin of safety and reduced warning offailure following yielding when Grade 100 690 bars are used instructural members where strength is go

8、verned by the tensile strength ofthe reinforcement, primarily in beams and slabs. If this is of concern, thepurchaser has the option of specifying a minimum ratio of tensile strengthto actual yield strength. Consensus design codes and specifications such as“Building Code Requirements for Structural

9、Concrete (ACI 318)” may notrecognize Grade 100 690 reinforcing bars: therefore the 125 % ofspecified yield strength requirements in tension and compression are notapplicable. Mechanical and welded splices should meet a minimumspecified tensile strength of 115 000 psi 790 MPa.NOTE 2Designers need to

10、be aware that design standards do notrecognize the use of the No. 20 64 bar, the largest bar included in thisspecification. Structural members reinforced with No. 20 64 bars mayrequire approval of the building official or other appropriate authority andrequire special detailing to ensure adequate pe

11、rformance at service andfactored loads.1.3 Plain bars, in sizes up to and including 212 in. 63.5 mmin diameter in coils or cut lengths, when ordered shall befurnished under this specification in Grade 40 280, Grade 60420, Grade 80 550, and Grade 100 690. For ductilityproperties (elongation and bendi

12、ng), test provisions of thenearest smaller nominal diameter deformed bar size shallapply. Requirements providing for deformations and markingshall not be applicable.NOTE 3Welding of the material in this specification should beapproached with caution since no specific provisions have been includedto

13、enhance its weldability. When this steel is to be welded, a weldingprocedure suitable for the chemical composition and intended use orservice should be used. The use of the latest edition of AWS D1.4 D1.4Mis recommended. The AWS D1.4 D1.4M Welding Code describes theproper selection of the filler met

14、als and preheat/interpass temperatures, aswell as performance and procedure qualification requirements.1.4 Requirements for alternate bar sizes are presented inAnnex A1. The requirements in Annex A1 only apply whenspecified by the purchaser (see 4.2.5).1.5 The text of this specification references n

15、otes andfootnotes which provide explanatory material. These notes andfootnotes (excluding those in tables) shall not be considered asrequirements of the specification.1.6 This specification is applicable for orders in eitherinch-pound units (as Specification A615) or in SI units (asSpecification A61

Material and Manufacture5.1 The bars shall be rolled from properly identified heats ofmold-cast or strand-cast steel. The steel shall be made by anycommercially accepted process.6. Chemical Composit

38、ion6.1 The chemical analysis of each heat of steel shall bedetermined in accordance with Test Methods, Practices, andTerminology A751. The manufacturer shall make the analysison test samples taken preferably during the pouring of the heat.The percentages of carbon, manganese, phosphorus, and sulfurs

39、hall be determined. The phosphorus content thus determinedshall not exceed 0.06 %.6.2 Aproduct check, for phosphorus, made by the purchasershall not exceed that specified in 6.1 by more than 25 %.7. Requirements for Deformations7.1 Deformations shall be spaced along the bar at substan-tially uniform

40、 distances. The deformations on opposite sides ofthe bar shall be similar in size, shape, and pattern.7.2 The deformations shall be placed with respect to the axisof the bar so that the included angle is not less than 45. Wherethe line of deformations forms an included angle with the axisof the bar

41、from 45 to 70 inclusive, the deformations shallalternately reverse in direction on each side, or those on oneside shall be reversed in direction from those on the oppositeside. Where the line of deformations is over 70, a reversal indirection shall not be required.7.3 The average spacing or distance

42、 between deformationson each side of the bar shall not exceed seven tenths of thenominal diameter of the bar.7.4 The overall length of deformations shall be such that thegap (measured as a chord) between the ends of the deforma-tions shall not exceed 12.5 % of the nominal perimeter of thebar. Where

43、the ends terminate in a rib, the width of the rib shallbe considered as the gap between these ends. The summationof the gaps shall not exceed 25 % of the nominal perimeter ofthe bar. The nominal perimeter of the bar shall be 3.1416 timesthe nominal diameter.7.5 The spacing, height, and gap of deform

44、ations shallconform to the requirements prescribed in Table 1.8. Measurements of Deformations8.1 The average spacing of deformations shall be deter-mined by measuring the length of a minimum of ten spaces anddividing that length by the number of spaces included in themeasurement. The measurement sha

45、ll begin from a point on adeformation at the beginning of the first space to a correspond-ing point on a deformation after the last included space.Spacing measurements shall not be made over a bar areacontaining bar marking symbols involving letters or numbers.8.2 The average height of deformations

46、shall be determinedfrom measurements made on not less than two typical defor-mations. Determinations shall be based on three measurementsper deformation, one at the center of the overall length and theother two at the quarter points of the overall length.8.3 Insufficient height, insufficient circumf

47、erentialcoverage, or excessive spacing of deformations shall notconstitute cause for rejection unless it has been clearly estab-lished by determinations on each lot (Note 4) tested that typicaldeformation height, gap, or spacing do not conform to theminimum requirements prescribed in Section 7. No r

48、ejectionshall be made on the basis of measurements if fewer than tenadjacent deformations on each side of the bar are measured.NOTE 4As used within the intent of 8.3, the term “lot” shall mean allthe bars of one bar size and pattern of deformations contained in anindividual shipping release or shipp

49、ing order.9. Tensile Requirements9.1 The material, as represented by the test specimens, shallconform to the requirements for tensile properties prescribed inTable 2.9.2 The yield point or yield strength shall be determined byone of the following methods:9.2.1 The yield point shall be determined by the drop or hal
