Scope*1.1 This specification covers double-reduced electrolytic tinplate produced from low-carbon cold-reduced steel furnishedin coils and cut sizes for use predominately in the manufactureof cans. It is furnished in commercially available tin coatingweights masses

4、 and is normally supplied with a trimmededge.1.2 This specification is applicable to orders in eitherinch-pound units (as A 626) which is supplied in thicknessesfrom 0.0050 to 0.0118 in. or SI units as A 626M which issupplied in thicknesses from 0.127 to 0.300 mm.1.3 The values stated in either inch

5、-pound or SI units are tobe regarded as standard. Within the text, the SI units are shownin brackets. The values stated in each system are not exactequivalents. Therefore, each system must be used indepen-dently of the other. Combining values from the two systemsmay result in nonconformance with thi

23、ing Direction4.1 Double-reduced plate is stronger and less ductile thansingle reduced plate and has very distinct directional proper-ties. The rolling direction must be specified on cut sizes andwill be indicated by underlining the slit (rolling width) dimen-sion. To minimize the flange-cracking haz

24、ard when the productis used for can bodies, the rolling direction must be around thecircumference of the can.5. Tin Coating Weight Mass5.1 Class Designation and Marking:5.1.1 Electrolytic tin plate is commonly produced to theclass designations shown in Table 1. Other combinations ofcoatings may be s

25、pecified by agreement between the producerand the purchaser.5.1.2 Differentially coated tin plate is a product having onesurface more heavily tin coated than the opposite. The classdesignation is expressed by showing the two tin coatingweights masses separated by a slash mark, for example, 50/25D 5.

26、6/2.8. The first number will represent the coating weightmass on the outside of the coil or the top surface of the cutsizes. Other line marking conventions must be brought to theattention of the supplier at the time of order entry.5.1.3 In order to distinguish material having differentialcoatings, t

27、he face with the heavier coating is normally marked.By arrangement, a special marking can be supplied on thelight-coated face (see Fig. 1 and Fig. 2). The letter D is shownalong with the coating number to indicate the side of the plateto be marked.5.2 Sampling for Tin Coating Weights Masses:5.2.1 Wh

28、en the purchaser wishes to make tests to ascertaincompliance with the requirements of this specification for tincoating weight mass on a lot of any specific item ofelectrolytic tin plate, the following procedure shall be used:5.2.1.1 CoilsOne test strip shall be taken at random froma representative

29、section of each coil across its width. Aminimum of three test strips, each taken from different coilsfrom any one item of a specific lot shall be selected.5.2.1.2 From one or two coil lots, each coil should besampled. A minimum of three randomly selected test stripsshall represent the lot.5.2.1.3 Cu

30、t SizesOne sheet shall be taken at random fromeach 50 packages or part thereof, with a minimum of threedifferent sample plates, each taken from different bundles fromany one item of a specific shipment.5.2.2 Each test sheet shall be spot tested at a minimum ofthree locations across the rolling direc

31、tion of the sheet. Spottests are customarily disks or squares 4 in.226 cm2 in area;other sizes may be used. In order to secure representativesamples, the following procedure shall be used:5.2.2.1 All test spots are taken on a center line at rightangles to the rolling direction.5.2.2.2 No test spots

32、shall be closer than 1 in. 25 mm fromthe mill-trimmed edge of the test sheets.5.2.2.3 No test spots shall be closer than 2 in. 50 mm fromone another.5.2.2.4 If the minimum of three test spots are taken, theyshall be edge, center, and edge tests.5.2.2.5 The average of all spot tests on all test strip

33、s orsheets represents the average coating weight mass test value.5.3 Coating weight mass test values shall conform to thevalues shown in Table 1.5.4 Determination of Tin Coating Weights MassesTypical methods for determination of tin coating weightsmasses are described in Test Methods A 630. Surface Appearance and Finish6.1 Surface AppearanceDouble-reduced electrolytic tinplate is customarily produced with a melted coating (bright).Unmelted coating (matte) is also available.6.2 Base Metal FinishDouble-re

41、duced electrolytic tinplate is produced with ground roll finishes.6.2.1 7CA smooth finish with grit lines. The surfaceroughness will range between 6 and 25 in. Ra 0.152 to 0.635m Ra.7. Chemical Treatment7.1 Electrolytic tin plate as produced without a surfacechemical treatment is subject to tin oxid

42、e growth that ismanifested by surface discoloration during storage and subse-quent baking operations and may adversely affect applicationand adhesion of organic coatings and lithography, and maycause poor solderability. A chemical treatment is thereforeapplied in most cases after the tin coating has

The chemical treatment is applied bypassing the strip through a chemical solution with or withoutcurr

44、ent. Chemical treatments on electrolytic tin plate areapplied commensurate with each suppliers method and equip-ment, however, one of the controlling factors is the amount ofcombined chromium present on the surface. Unless otherwisespecified, the surface chemical treatment will be left to thediscret

45、ion of the tin plate producer.7.2 In order of decreasing surface passivation, the com-monly used chemical treatments for tin plate are as follows:7.2.1 Cathodic Sodium Dichromate (CDC) Treatment:7.2.1.1 The cathodic sodium dichromate treatment is themost widely used treatment, and provides a highly

46、passivatedsurface against the formation of tin oxides. 47、uired for organic coatings and lithography; (3) minimizeddiscoloration due to soldering operation; and (4) provides someresistance to tin sulfide discoloration of certain sulfur-bearingfood products.7.2.1.2 Cathodic sodium dichromate-treated tin plate has anaim range from 350 to 650 g of chromium pe

48、r square foot ofsurface 4 000 to 7 000 g of chromium per square metre ofsurface.7.2.2 Sodium Dichromate Dip (SDCD/SDD) Treatment:7.2.2.1 The sodium dichromate dip treatment provides mod-erate passivation against tin oxide formation.7.2.2.2 Sodium dichromate dip-treated tin plate has a maxi-mum of 20

49、0 g of chromium per square foot of surface 2200g of chromium per square metre of surface.8. Oiling8.1 Electrolytic tin plate is furnished with an oil film appliedto both surfaces. The most commonly used oil films are dioctylsebacate (DOS) and acetyl tributyl citrate (ATBC). Other oilfilms may be used. Surface active agents such as glycerolmonooleate (GMO) may be incorporated into the oil film forapp
