Scope*1.1 This specification2covers three grades of carbon-manganese-silicon st

3、eel plates intended primarily for service inwelded pressure vessels where improved low temperaturenotch toughness is important.1.2 The maximum thickness of plates is limited only by thecapacity of the composition to meet the specified mechanicalproperty requirements; however, current practice normal

4、lylimits the maximum thickness of plates furnished under thisspecification to 2 in. 50 mm.1.3 Grades A, B, and C comply substantially with therequirements of ISO Pressure Vessel Steels P9, P15, and P18,respectively.1.4 For plates produced from coil and furnished withoutheat treatment or with stress

5、relieving only, the additionalrequirements, including additional testing requirements and thereporting of additional test results, of Specification A 20/A 20M apply.1.5 The values stated in either inch-pound units or SI unitsare to be regarded separately as standard. Within the text, theSI units are

General Requirements and Ordering Information3.1 Plates supplied to this product specification shall con-form to Specification A 20/A 20M, which outlines the testingand retesting methods and procedures, permissible variationsin dimensions and mass, qu

9、ality, and repair of defects, mark-ing, loading, etc.3.2 Specification A 20/A 20M also establishes the rules forordering information that should be complied with whenpurchasing plates to this specification.3.3 In addition to the basic requirements of this specificationcertain supplementary requireme

10、nts are available where addi-tional control, testing, or examination is required to meet theend use requirements.3.4 The purchaser is referred to the listed supplementaryrequirements in this specification and to the detailed require-ments in Specification A 20/A 20M.3.5 Coils are excluded from quali

11、fication to this specifica-tion until they are processed into finished plates. Platesproduced from coil means plates that have been cut toindividual lengths from coil. The processor directly controls, oris responsible for, the operations involved in the processing ofcoils into finished plates. Such

12、operations include decoiling,leveling, cutting to length, testing, inspection, conditioning,heat treatment (if applicable), packaging, marking, loading forshipment, and certification.NOTE 1For plates produced from coil and furnished without heattreatment or with stress relieving only, three test res

13、ults are reported foreach qualifying coil. Additional requirements regarding plates from coilare described in Specification A 20/A 20M.3.6 If the requirements of this specification are in conflictwith the requirements of Specification A 20/A 20M, the re-quirements of this specification shall prevail

Manufacture4.1 Steelmaking PracticeThe steel shall be killed andshall conform to the fine austenitic grain size requirement ofSpecification A 20/A 20M.5. Heat Treatment5.1 All plates of

17、 Grade A and plates of Grades B and C over112 in. 40 mm in thickness shall be normalized.5.2 Plates of Grades B and C, 112 in. 40 mm and under inthickness, are normally supplied in the as-rolled condition. Theplates may be ordered normalized or stress relieved, or both.6. Chemical Requirements6.1 Th

18、e steel shall conform to the requirements as tochemical composition given in Table 1 unless otherwisemodified in accordance with Supplementary Requirement S17,Vacuum Carbon-Deoxidized Steel, in Specification A 20/A 20M.7. Mechanical Requirements7.1 Tension Test RequirementsThe plates, as represented

19、by the tension test specimens, shall conform to the require-ments given in Table 2.SUPPLEMENTARY REQUIREMENTSSupplementary requirements shall not apply unless specified in the purchase order. A list ofstandardized supplementary requirements for use at the option of the purchaser is included inSpecif
