Scope1.1 This practice covers the procedure for designating(within ASTM specifications) standard grades of flat-rolledelectric

3、al steels made to specified maximum values of coreloss. This practice applies to magnetically soft irons and steel(low-carbon steels and alloys of iron with silicon, aluminum,and so forth) where a core loss measurement at a stated peakvalue of alternating induction and a stated frequency, such as15

4、kG (1.5 T) and 60 Hz, is normally used to grade thematerial. This practice also applies when some other propertyis specified (or a different induction or frequency, or both) asthe limiting characteristic, provided the material also meets allthe requirements of the ASTM specification.1.2 Individual s

5、pecifications that are in conformity with thispractice are Specifications A677, A683, A726, and A876.1.3 The values stated in customary (cgs-emu and inch-pound) units are to be regarded as standard. The values givenin parentheses are mathematical conversions to SI units whichare provided for informa

9、. Terminology3.1 The terms and symbols used in this practice are definedin Terminology A340.4. Procedure4.1 General Requirements of the Core-Loss-TypeDesignationsThe core-loss-type designations to be used forordering purposes and for identification of the shipped materialin ASTM specifications for e

10、lectrical steels shall be a six-character identification (for example, 36F145) comprised ofthe following basic elements:4.1.1 First Two DigitsThe first two digits of the gradedesignation shall represent the nominal decimal thickness ofthe material in millimetres. For instance, the number 36represent

11、s a thickness of 0.36 mm or 0.014 in. Refer toAppendix X1 for the relationship between Electrical SheetGauge Number and thickness.4.1.2 Code LettersA code letter shall designate the gen-eral category of magnetic material and the standard samplingand testing practices that apply. The precise conditio

12、ns ofsampling and testing are given in the ASTM specificationcovering each class of material. The code letter to be used andthe sampling and testing conditions associated with that lettershall be as in Table 1.4.1.3 Last DigitsThe last three digits of the grade desig-nation shall represent the maxim

13、um permissible core loss inwatts per pound for the test conditions indicated by the codeletter. For instance, the 145 designation on a standard ASTMspecification used in conjunction with the Code Letter Frepresents 1.45 W/lb for the maximum value of core lossdetermined at 15 kG (1.5 T) and 60 Hz on

17、ions5.1 The standard grade designation, formulated as describedherein, shall be used together with the appropriate ASTMspecification to designate specifically the desired material. Forinstance, a material designatedASTM SpecificationA876 Type35G066, would signify grain-oriented electrical steel, ful

18、lyprocessed, in a thickness of 0.35 mm with a maximum coreloss of 0.66 W/lb measured at 15 kG (1.5 T) and 60 Hz onEpstein specimens with all strips cut parallel to the rollingdirection, stress-relief annealed at 1450 to 1550F (790 to845C) with a 1-h soak period.5.2 The ASTM grade designations for el

19、ectrical steel shallbe assigned only by ASTM. They shall apply only when anASTM specification incorporating that grade designation hasbecome effective through the normal standardizing activities ofthe Society. The ASTM grade designations shall be used toidentify electrical steel grades only when the

20、 material soidentified complies with the requirements of the ASTM speci-fication of which the grade designation is a part.6.
