Terminology3.1 Definitions:3.1.1 The definitions in Test Methods and Definitions A 370and Terminology A 941 are applicable to this specification andthose listed

Materials and Manufacture4.1 Melting ProcessThe steel shall be made by open-hearth or electric-furnace process, with or without separaterefining su

27、ch as argon-oxygen-decarburization (AOD), unlessotherwise designated by the individual specification.4.2 Heat Treatment:4.2.1 Ferritic and martensitic steel shall be cooled afterpouring to provide substantially complete transformation ofaustenite prior to heat treatment to enhance mechanical prop-er

28、ties.4.2.2 Castings shall be heat treated in the working zone of afurnace that has been surveyed in accordance with Test MethodA 991/A 991M.4.2.2.1 When castings are heat treated at temperaturesabove 2000F 1100C, then the working zone shall have beenestablished by a survey performed at not more than

29、 25F15C below nor more than 200F 110C above the mini-mum heat treatment temperature specified for the grade. If aminimum heat treatment temperature is not specified for thegrade, then the survey temperature shall be not more than 50F30C below nor more than 175F 100C above the furnaceset point used.4

30、.2.2.2 The maximum variation in measured temperature asdetermined by the difference between the highest temperatureand the lowest temperature shall be as agreed between thepurchaser and producer except that during production heattreatment, no portion of the furnace shall be below theminimum specifie

31、d temperature nor above the maximumspecified temperature for the grade being processed.5. Chemical Composition5.1 Chemical AnalysisChemical analysis of materialscovered by this specification shall be in accordance with TestMethods A 751.5.2 Heat AnalysisAn analysis of each heat shall be madeby the m

32、anufacturer to determine the percentages of theelements specified. The analysis shall be made from a testsample preferably taken during the pouring of the heat. Whendrillings are used, they shall be taken not less than14 in. 6.4mm beneath the surface. The chemical composition thus4Available from Ame

34、ted to the purchaser, or his represen-tative, and shall conform to the requirements in the individualspecification for the grade being poured.5.3 Product AnalysisA product analysis may be made bythe purchaser from material representing each heat, lot, orcasting. The analysis shall be made on represe

35、ntative material.Due to the possibility of decarburization, carbon and alloy steelsamples for carbon analysis shall be taken no closer than14 in.6.4 mm to a cast surface except that castings too thin for thisshall be analyzed on representative material. The chemicalcomposition thus determined shall

36、meet the requirementsspecified in the applicable specification for the grade involved,or shall be subject to rejection by the purchaser, except that thechemical composition determined for carbon and low-alloysteel castings may vary from the specified limits by theamounts shown in Table 1. The produc

37、t analysis tolerances ofTable 1 are not applicable as acceptance criteria for heatanalysis by the casting manufacturer.5.4 Unspecified ElementsWhen chemical analysis for el-ements not specified for the grade ordered is desired, Supple-mentary Requirement S1 may be specified.5.4.1 Grade substitution

38、for stainless and nickel base alloycastings is not permitted. Grade substitution occurs when thematerial supplied: (1) contains an element, other the nitrogen,that is not specified in the ordered grade, and (2) the amount ofthat element equals or exceeds the minimum requirement forthe element in ano

39、ther grade for which it is specified. For thisrequirement, a grade is defined as an alloy described individu-ally in a table of chemical requirements within any specifica-tion listed within the scope of this section.5.5 The substitution of a grade or composition differentfrom that specified by the p

40、urchaser is prohibited.5.6 Where more than one ladle is poured into a singlecasting, the molten metal in each ladle must conform to thespecified chemical requirements.6. Mechanical Test Methods6.1 All mechanical tests shall be conducted in accordancewith Test Methods and Definitions A 370.7. Tensile

41、 Requirements7.1 One tension test shall be made from each heat, and shallconform to the tensile requirements specified. Test couponsshall be cast from the same heat as the castings represented,except that for investment castings, the test coupons shall becast in the same type of mold as the castings

42、.67.2 The coupon from which the test specimen is taken shallbe heat treated in production furnaces to the same procedure asthe castings it represents.7.3 Test specimens may be cut from heat-treated castings, atthe producers option, instead of from test coupons.7.4 Investment CastingsFor investment c

43、astings, the cou-pons may be cast to shape or machined from coupons todimensions in accordance with Test Methods and DefinitionsA 370 or the ICI coupon shown in Fig. 1.7.5 Other CastingsUnless otherwise specified by thepurchaser, test coupons may be cast integrally with the castingsor as separately

44、in accordance with Fig. 2 and Table 2, withFig. 3, or with Fig. 4, except when Supplementary Require-ment S26 is specified. The test coupon in Fig. 4 shall beemployed only for austenitic alloy castings with cross sectionsless than 212 in. 63.5 mm. Tension test specimens shall beprepared in accordanc

45、e with Test Methods and DefinitionsA 370.7.6 If any specimen shows defective machining or developsflaws, it may be discarded and another substituted from thesame heat.7.7 To determine conformance with the tension test require-ments, an observed value or calculated value shall be roundedoff in accord

46、ance with Practice E29to the nearest 500 psi 5MPa for yield and tensile strength and to the nearest 1 % forelongation and reduction of area.8. Repair by Welding8.1 Repair by welding shall be in accordance with therequirements of individual specification using procedures andwelders qualified in accor
