Scope1.1 This specification2covers high-strength low-alloy steelplates for service in welded pressure ve

3、ssels and pipingcomponents.1.2 This material is particularly intended for piping andpressure vessel applications where high strength and improvedtoughness are required.1.3 Two grades, designated B and C, are covered by thisspecification. Grade B provides a minimum yield strength of50 ksi 345 MPa. Gr

4、ade C provides a minimum yield strengthof 60 ksi 415 MPa.1.4 The maximum thickness of plates is limited only by thecapacity of the chemical composition and heat treatment tomeet the specified mechanical property requirements. Indi-vidual manufacturers should be consulted on thickness limita-tions si

5、nce current industry limitations have not been ascer-tained to date.1.5 The values stated in either inch-pound units or SI unitsare to be regarded separately as standard. Within the text, theSI units are shown in brackets. The values stated in eachsystem are not exact equivalents; therefore, each sy

General Requirements and Ordering Information3.1

8、 Material supplied to this specification shall conform tothe requirements of Specification A 20/A 20M. These require-ments outline the testing and retesting methods and procedures,permissible variations in dimensions and mass, quality, repairof defects, marking, loading, etc.3.2 Specification A 20/A

9、 20M also establishes the rules forcompliance to the ordering information when purchasingmaterial to this specification.3.3 Certain supplementary requirements considered suitablefor use with this specification are listed at the end of thespecification. These include some of the standardized supple-m

10、entary requirements listed in Specification A 20/A 20M aswell as additional ones unique to this specification.4. Manufacture4.1 Steelmaking PracticeThe steel shall be killed andshall conform to the fine austenitic grain size requirement ofSpecification A 20/A 20M.5. Heat Treatment5.1 The material sh

11、all be normalized by heating to a suitabletemperature which produces an austenitic structure, but notexceeding 1700F 925C, holding a sufficient time to attainuniform heat throughout the material, and cooling in air.5.2 If approved by the purchaser, cooling rates faster thanair cooling are permitted

12、for improvement of strength ortoughness, provided the plates are subsequently tempered inthe temperature range from 1100 to 1300F 595 to 705C.5.3 If the purchaser elects to perform the required heattreatment, the material shall be accepted on the basis of milltests made from test coupons heat treate

13、d in accordance withthe purchase order requirements. If the test coupon heat-treatment requirements are not indicated on the purchase order,the manufacturer shall heat treat the test coupons underconditions he considers appropriate. Chemical Requirements6.1 The steel shall conform to the requirements as tochemical composition prescribed in Table 1 unless otherwisemodified in accordance with Supplementary Requirement S17,Vacuum Car

17、bon-Deoxidized Steel, in Specification A 20/A 20M.7. Mechanical Requirements7.1 Tension TestsThe material as represented by thetension test specimens shall conform to the requirementsshown in Table 2.7.1.1 For nominal plate thicknesses of34 in. 20 mm andunder, when requirements for elongation in 2 i

18、n. 50 mm areto be determined, the 112-in. 40-mm wide rectangular speci-men may be used for the tension test, and the elongation maybe determined in a 2-in. 50-mm gage length that includes thefracture and that shows the greatest elongation.SUPPLEMENTARY REQUIREMENTSSupplementary requirements shall no

19、t apply unless specified in the purchase order.A list of standardized supplementary requirements for use at the option of the purchaser is includedin Specification A 20/A 20M. Several of those considered suitable for use with this specification arelisted below by title. Other tests may be performed
