Material5.1 Base MetalThe base metal shall be steel made by anyprocess and shall be of such quality that the finished wire ropeand the individual metallic-coated wires shall have the prop-

9、erties as prescribed in this specification.5.2 ZincThe slab zinc or Zinc-5 % Aluminum-Mischmetal Alloy when used for the coating shall be any gradeof zinc conforming to Specification B6 for Zinc coatings orSpecification B750 for Zinc-5 % Aluminum-Mischmetal Alloycoatings.5.3 Coating Bath AnalysisThe

10、 bath metal used in continu-ous hot-dip Zn-5 Al-MM alloy-coated wire shall meet thechemical composition limits specified in Specification B750.6. Mechanical Requirements6.1 Breaking StrengthThe metallic-coated steel wire ropeshall conform to the mechanical properties in Table 3 whentested in accorda

11、nce with Test Methods and Definitions A370and employing a suitable gripping device as covered inSupplement VII of Test Methods and Definitions A370.6.2 ConstructionThe metallic-coated wire rope and indi-vidual wires shall conform to the dimension and constructionrequirements of Table 3.1This specifi

15、ceeding 15 turns per minute around a cylindricalsteel mandrel equal to three times the nominal diameter of thewire under test without cracking or breaking of the wire.6.4 Weight of Zinc Coating or Zinc-5 % Aluminum-Mischmetal AlloyThe class of metallic coating weight shallbe specified by the purchas

16、er. The weight of the metalliccoating on the individual wires for the specified class andappropriate wire size shall not be less than that specified inTable 1 or Table 2 when tested in accordance with the strippingtest of Test Method A90/A90M.6.5 Adherence of CoatingThe individual metallic-coatedwir

17、es shall be capable of being wrapped two turns in a closehelix at a rate not exceeding 15 turns per minute around acylindrical steel mandrel equal to three times the nominaldiameter of the wire under test without the coating cracking orflaking to such an extent that any zinc or Zinc-5 % Aluminum-Mis

18、chmetal Alloy can be removed by rubbing with barefingers. Loosening or detachment during the adherence test ofsuperficial small particles of zinc or Zinc-5 % Aluminum-Mischmetal Alloy formed by mechanical polishing of thesurface of metallic-coated wire shall not be considered causefor rejection.6.6

19、AppearanceThe individual wires shall be cylindricalin form, of uniform quality, and free of imperfections notconsistent with good commercial practice. The coating shall becontinuous and reasonably uniform.7. Wire Rope7.1 The wire rope shall be right regular lay, preformed, andof the type of construc

20、tion shown in Table 3. A right lay isdefined as a clockwise twist away from the observer. The typeof construction shall be specified by the purchaser.8. Joints and Splices8.1 Individual WiresThe distance between joints in anytwo individual wires in a strand shall be not less than 18 in.(460 mm). Joi

21、nts in individual wires shall be either butt-weldedor brazed-lap type. Joints made by butt welding shall have allflash removed. When the brazed-lap type of joint is used, thelength of the lap shall be not less than three times the diameterof the wire and the overlapping faces shall be smooth, clean,

30、g by the purchaser.9. Sampling and Testing9.1 One wire rope test specimen shall be taken from eachlot.Alot shall consist of not more than 20 tons (18 metric tons)of wire rope of one size and type delivered at one time.9.2 The test specimen shall be of a length to performconveniently all tests prescr

31、ibed in this specification.9.3 A minimum of four wire test specimens shall be cutfrom each size of main wires in the rope, selected at random fortesting for compliance with 6.2, 6.3, 6.4, and 6.5.9.4 If an individual wire or the rope fails to meet anyrequirements of this specification, that reel sha

32、ll be rejectedand two additional tests shall be made on samples of wire ropefrom two different reels in the lot. If failure occurs in either ofthese tests, the lot of wire rope shall be rejected. The lot maybe resubmitted for inspection after testing every reel for thecharacteristic in which the spe

33、cimen failed and sorting out thedefective reels.10. Inspection10.1 All tests and inspection shall be made at the place ofmanufacture unless otherwise specified and shall be so con-ducted as not to interfere unnecessarily with the operation ofthe works. The manufacturer shall afford the inspector rep

34、re-senting the purchaser all reasonable facilities to satisfy him thatthe material being furnished is in accordance with this speci-fication. When specified, inspection may be waived and certi-fied copies of test reports furnished. The purchaser reserves theright to test individual wires for complia

35、nce to 6.2, 6.3, 6.4, and6.5, and the metallic-coated wire rope after fabrication.11. Packaging11.1 Current standard practice is to ship the wire rope onwooden reels. Each reel shall have the length, nominal diam-eter, type of strand construction, weight of rope, and name ortrademark of the manufact

36、urer plainly and indelibly marked ona strong tag, firmly attached, or this information shall bepainted on the reel. The wooden reel shall be mountable so thatit will revolve and the rope will run off by pulling straightahead.12. Fittings12.1 The fittings shall be of the design called for in the plan

37、sand shall have the properties necessary to develop the strengthof the wire rope.12.2 Fittings as shown in the plans shall have a uniformcoating of zinc conforming to Specifications A123/A123M orA153/A153M, whichever applies.13.
