Scope1.1 This specification covers corrugated steel pipe intendedfor use for storm water drainage, underdrains, the constructionof culverts, and similar uses. Pipe covered by this specificationis not normally used for the conveyance of sanitary
、orindustrial wastes. The steel sheet used in fabrication of the pipehas a protective metallic coating of zinc (galvanizing), alumi-num, 55 % aluminum-zinc alloy, or zinc-5 % aluminum-mischmetal alloy.1.1.1 Steel sheet with zinc and aramid fiber compositecoating may be specified for fabrication of pi
、pe. Pipe madefrom sheet with this composite coating is always furnishedwith an asphalt coating. Therefore, the requirements in thisspecification should be considered as applying to a semifin-ished pipe; the finished pipe must include provisions ofSpecification A 849.NOTE 1Pipe fabricated with zinc a
、nd aramid fiber composite coatedsheet and asphalt post coating may be used for sanitary sewers andindustrial applications. Petroleum products or similar materials in thesewer effluent may affect the performance of the asphalt coating.1.2 The several different metallic coatings may not provideequal p
、rotection of the base metal against corrosion or abrasionin all environments, or both. Some environments may be sosevere that none of the metallic coatings included in thisspecification will provide adequate protection. Additional pro-tection for corrugated steel pipe can be provided by use ofcoatin
、gs applied after fabrication of the pipe as described inSpecificationA 849, or by use of polymer precoated corrugatedsteel pipe as described in Specification A 762/A 762M.1.3 This specification does not include requirements forbedding, backfill, or the relationship between earth cover loadand sheet
、thickness of the pipe. Experience has shown that thesuccessful performance of this product depends upon theproper selection of sheet thickness, type of bedding andbackfill, controlled manufacture in the plant, and care in theinstallation. The installation procedure is described in PracticeA 798/A 79
、8M.1.4 This specification is applicable to orders in eitherinch-pound units as A 760 or in SI units as A 760M. Inch-pound units and SI units are not necessarily equivalent. SI unitsare shown in brackets in the text for clarity, but they are theapplicable values when the material is ordered to A 760M
