3、ca-tion of welded pressure vessels.1.2 The plates furnished under this specification are re-quired to be normalized-and-tempered. Specification A542/A542M includes coverage of the material in the quenched-and-tempered condition.1.3 The maximum thickness of plates furnished to thisspecification is li
4、mited only by the capacity of the compositionto meet the specified property requirements. However, themaximum thickness of plates normally furnished under thisspecification is 6 in. 150 mm.1.4 The material is intended to be suitable for fusionwelding. Welding technique is of fundamental importance a
5、ndit is presupposed that welding procedures will be in accordancewith approved methods.1.5 This specification is expressed in both inch-pound unitsand in SI units. Manufacture4.1 Steelmaking ProcessThe steel shall be made by one ofthe processes permitted in Specification A20/A20M.4.2 Steelmaking PracticeThe steel shall be killed andshall conform to the fine grain size requirement of Specifica-tion A20/A20M.5. Heat Treatment5.1 All plate
16、s shall be normalized and tempered except asallowed by 5.2. The minimum normalizing temperature forGrade 22V shall be 1650F 900C. The minimum normaliz-ing temperature for Grade 23V shall be 1850F 1010C. Theminimum tempering temperature shall be 1250F 675C.5.2 Plates ordered without the heat treatmen
17、t required by5.1 shall be furnished in either the stress-relieved or theannealed condition. Heat treatment of plates so ordered, toconform to 5.1 and to Table 1, shall be the responsibility of thepurchaser.6. Chemical Composition6.1 The steel shall conform to the requirements as tochemical compositi

Mechanical Properties7.1 Tension Test Requirements:7.1.1 The material as represented by the tension test speci-mens shall conform to the requirements of Table 1.7.2 Notch Toughness Requirements:7.2.1 A transverse Charpy V-notch test from each plate asheat-treated shall have a
