Materials and Manufacture5.1 The steel rod from which the wire is drawn shall bemanufactured by the open-hearth, electric-furnace, or basicoxy
16、gen process.5.2 The wire shall be cold-drawn then metallic-coated atfinished size to produce the specific mechanical properties.5.3 The wire shall be furnished with one of two types ofcoatings, specified as follows:5.3.1 Type IZinc-coated (galvanized) with coating weightas specified in 7.1.5.3.2 Typ
17、e IIZinc-5 % aluminum-mischmetal alloycoated (Zn-5A1-MM) with coating weight as specified in 7.1.5.4 Type I coating may be produced by either a hot-dip or anelectrolytic process at the option of the producer. Type IIcoating shall be produced by a hot-dip process.5.5 Slab zinc, if used for Type I coa
18、ting, shall be one of theappropriate grades that are described in Specification B 6.5.6 The ingot used for Type II shall conform to SpecificationB 750.5.6.1 Method of AnalysisThe determination of chemicalcomposition shall be made in accordance with suitable chemi-cal (Test Method E 47 for tin), ICP
19、argon plasma spectrometric(Test Method E 1277), or other methods. In case of dispute theresults secured by Test Method E 1277 shall be the basis ofacceptance.5.6.2 A standard practice for X-ray fluorescence spectrom-etry for determination of cerium and lanthanum in a zinc-5 %aluminum-mischmetal allo
20、y has been established by the Inter-national Lead Zinc Research Organization (Standard PracticeGF 1). In case of dispute, the results secured by Test MethodE 1277 shall be the basis of acceptance.6. Mechanical Requirements6.1 Tension Test:6.1.1 RequirementsThe material as represented by the testspec
21、imens shall have tensile strengths and meet elongationrequirements as shown in Table 1.6.1.2 Test MethodThe tension test shall be made inaccordance with Test Methods and Definitions A 370, Annex 4.6.1.3 The diameter used in calculation of tensile strengthshall be the actual diameter, including the c
22、oating, determinedin accordance with 8.3 of this specification.6.2 Ductility Test:6.2.1 RequirementsThe material as represented by the testspecimens shall not fracture when wrapped at a rate notexceeding 15 turns/min in a close helix of at least two turnsaround a cylindrical mandrel with a diameter
23、of 2d for Grade200 or 1d for Grades 180 and 140, where d is the coated wirediameter.6.2.2 Test MethodThe wrap test shall be in accordancewith Test Methods and Definitions A 370, Annex 4.6.2.3 Any cracking or flaking of the coating material duringthis test shall not be construed to constitute failure
24、 of the test.6.3 Adherence of Coating Test:6.3.1 RequirementsThe material as represented by the testspecimens shall withstand wrapping at a rate not exceeding 15turns/min in a close helix around a cylindrical mandrel with adiameter of 4d, without cracking or flaking the coating to suchan extent that
25、 any of the coating metal can be removed byrubbing with the bare fingers.6.3.2 Test MethodThe adherence of coating test shall bemade in accordance with the wrapping test of Test Methodsand Definitions A 370, Annex 4.6.3.3 Loosening or detachment during the adherence test ofsuperficial, small particl
26、es of coating material formed bymechanical polishing of the surface of the coated wire shall notbe considered cause for rejection.7. Weight of Coating7.1 RequirementsThe material as represented by the testspecimens shall have a minimum weight of metallic coating of0.80 oz/ft2244 g/m2 of uncoated wir
27、e surface.7.2 Test MethodThe weight of metallic coating shall bedetermined in accordance with Test Method A 90.8. Dimensions and Tolerances8.1 SizeThe diameter of the coated wire shall be 0.099 in.2.5 mm.8.2 ToleranceThe permissible tolerance in the coated wireshall be 60.004 in. 60.10 mm.8.3 Test M
28、ethodUsing a micrometer or other suitableinstrument, determine the greatest and least measurement at thesame cross-section, with each measurement to the nearest0.001 in. 0.01 mm. The average of these two measurementsshall be considered the diameter of the test specimen.9. Workmanship, Finish, and Ap
29、pearance9.1 The coated wire shall be free of slivers, scale, and otherimperfections not consistent with good commercial practice.The coating shall be continuous and reasonably uniform.9.2 Electric-welded butt joints are permitted during thedrawing process.9.3 No welds are permitted after drawing.10.
30、 Number of Tests and Retests10.1 A lot for the purpose of testing shall consist of all thecoils of wire of the same diameter, class, and grade offered forshipment at one time.10.2 One test specimen shall be taken from each 10 000 lb4540 kg or fraction thereof. Test specimens shall be takenfrom eithe
31、r end of coil. Each specimen shall be tested forcompliance with Sections 6 and 8. 33、s may beremoved and the balance of the lot subjected to retests. Forretest purposes two additional coils for each 10 000 lb 4540kg in the lot shall be sampled and tested for the property inwhich the original sample failed to comply.10.5 Should any of the retest specimens fail to meet themechanical o
34、r coating properties specified, the lot representedby the test specimens may be rejected.10.6 Instead of rejecting the entire lot as provided in 10.5,the producer may test specimens from every coil in the lot forthe property in which failure occurred and resubmit those coilsmeeting the specification
35、 requirements.11. Inspection11.1 Unless otherwise specified in the contract or purchaseorder, the manufacturer is responsible for the performance ofall inspection and test requirements specified in this specifica-tion. Except as otherwise specified in the contract or purchaseorder, the manufacturer
36、may use his own or any other suitablefacilities for the performance of the inspection and testrequirements unless disapproved by the purchaser at the timethe order is placed. The purchaser shall have the right toperform any of the inspections and tests set forth in thisspecification when such inspec
37、tions and tests are deemednecessary to ensure that the material conforms to prescribedrequirements.12. Rejection and Rehearing12.1 Material that fails to conform to the requirements ofthis specification may be rejected. Rejection should be reportedto the producer or supplier promptly and in writing.
38、 In case ofdissatisfaction with the results of the test, the producer orsupplier may make claim for a rehearing.12.2 The material must be adequately protected and cor-rectly identified in order that the producer or supplier maymake a proper investigation.13. Certification13.1 When specified in the p
39、urchase order or contract, aproducers or suppliers certification shall be furnished to thepurchaser that the material was manufactured, sampled, tested,and inspected in accordance with this specification and hasbeen found to meet the requirements. When specified in thepurchase order or contract, a r
40、eport of the test results shall befurnished.14. Packaging and Marking14.1 The coil weight, dimensions, and methods of packag-ing shall be agreed upon between the manufacturer and thepurchaser.14.2 Unless otherwise specified, packaging, marking, andloading for shipment shall be in accordance with Pra
41、cticesA 700.14.3 When specified in the contract or order, and for directprocurement by or direct shipment to the U.S. Government,when Level A is specified, preservation, packaging, and pack-ing shall be in accordance with Level A requirement ofMIL-STD-163.14.4 When specified in the contract or order
42、, and for directprocurement by or direct shipment to the U.S. Government,marking for shipment, in addition to requirements specified inthe contract or order, shall be in accordance with MIL-STD-129 for U.S Military agencies and in accordance with Fed.
