A Class A minimum coating thickness is required forwire and welded wire reinforcement intended for use inc

Terminology3.1 Definitions of Terms Specific to This Standard:3.1.1 conversion coating, na preparation of the blast-cleaned steel surface prior to coating application that isdesigned to pretreat the metal to promote coating adhesion,reduce metal/coating reactions, improve corrosion r

17、esistance,and increase blister resistance.3.1.2 disbonding, nloss of adhesion between the fusion-bonded Vinyl coating and the steel reinforcement.3.1.3 fusin-bonded Vinyl coating, na product containingpigments, thermoplastic Vinyl resin, and other additives. It isapplied in the form of a powder on a

18、 clean, heated, metallicsubstrate and fuses to form a continuous barrier coating.3.1.4 holiday, na discontinuity in a coating that is notdiscernible to a person with normal or corrected vision.3.1.5 patching material, na liquid Vinyl coating used torepair damaged or uncoated areas.4. Ordering Inform

19、ation4.1 The purchaser shall specify:4.1.1 Wire or welded wire fabric specification,4.1.2 Wire size,4.1.3 Wire spacing and sizes, if welded wire fabric,4.1.4 Length and width of sheets or rolls,4.1.5 Quantity, and4.1.6 Class of coating.4.2 The purchaser will specify:4.2.1 Requirements for material s

20、amples (5.3),4.2.2 Requirements for patching material (5.4),4.2.3 Requirements for visual standards for surface cleaningcomparison (6.1),4.2.4 Specific requirements for test frequency (9.1), and4.2.5 Requirements for inspection of manufacturing plant(12.1).5. Materials5.1 Plain or deformed steel wir

21、e or welded wire fabric to becoated shall meet the requirements of one of the applicablespecifications: A 82/A 82M, A 185/A 185M, A 496/A 496M, or A 497/A 497M, as specified by the purchaser, andshall be free of surface contaminants such as oil, grease, orpaint when received at the manufacturers pla

22、nt and prior tocleaning and coating.5.2 The coating material shall meet the requirements listedin Annex A1. In addition to the requirements of Annex A1, thecoating material shall have demonstrated long-term stabilitywhen embedded in concrete.5.2.1 A written certification shall be furnished to the pu

23、r-chaser that properly identifies the number of each batch ofcoating material used in the order, material quantity repre-sented, date of manufacture, name and address of manufac-turer, and a statement that the supplied coating material meetsthe requirements of Annex A1.5.3 If specified in the order,

24、 a representative 8-oz 0.20-kgsample of the coating material shall be supplied to thepurchaser from each batch. The sample shall be packaged in anairtight container and identified by batch number.5.4 If specified in the order, patching material, compatiblewith the coating and inert in concrete, and

25、recommended by thecoating manufacturer, shall be supplied to the purchaser.NOTE 2When subjected to temperatures above 392F 200C for aprolonged period of time, PVC is subject to decomposition. One of theproducts of decomposition is hydrochloric acid, HCl, which can damageconcrete and reinforcing stee

26、l. Even in small amounts, HCl will acceleratecorrosion of steel.NOTE 3PVC coated wire has very low bond strength to concrete, andthe use of deformed wire provides no advantage over smooth wire. Thebond strength of PVC coated welded wire fabric is similar to that ofuncoated plain welded wire fabric s

27、ince the cross wires provide theprimary bond.6. Surface Preparation6.1 The surface of the steel wire or welded wire fabric to becoated will be cleaned by abrasive blast cleaning to near-whitemetal in accordance with SSPC-SP10. Additional surfacetreatment will be used as indicated in A1.3.3.4. Any of

28、 thefollowing visual standards of comparison will be used to definethe final surface condition: SSPC-Vis 1, SSPC-Vis 2, NACETM-01-70, and NACE TM-01-75. Average blast profile maxi-mum roughness depth readings of 1.5 to 4.0 mils 0.04 to 0.10mm as determined by replica tape measurements using NACERP-2

29、87-87, shall be considered suitable as an anchor pattern.NOTE 4Abrasive blast cleaning of wire and welded wire reinforce-ment with a high degree ( 90 %) of grit in the cleaning media providesthe most suitable anchor profile for coating adhesion. After grit has beenrecycled, a small portion will take

30、 on the appearance of shot.NOTE 5The use of a profilometer type surface measurement instru-ment which measures the peak count as well as the maximum profile depthis recommended.6.2 Multidirectional, high-pressure, dry air knives shall beused after blasting to remove dust, grit, and other foreignmatt

31、er from the steel surface. The air knives shall not depositoil on the steel reinforcement.NOTE 6It is recommended that incoming wire and welded wirereinforcement and blast media should be checked for salt contaminationprior to use. Blast media found to be salt contaminated should be rejected.Wire an

32、d welded wire reinforcement found to be salt contaminated fromexposure to deicing salts or salt spray should be cleaned by acid washingor other suitable methods to remove salt contaminants from the surfaceprior to blast cleaning.6.3 It shall be permissible for the manufacturer to use achemical wash

33、or conversion of the blast-cleaned steel rein-forcement surface, or both, to enhance coating adhesion. Thispretreatment shall be applied after abrasive cleaning and beforecoating, in accordance with the written application instructionsspecified by the pretreatment manufacturer.7. Application of Coat

34、ing7.1 The coating shall be applied to the cleaned surface assoon as possible after cleaning, and before oxidation of thesurface discernible to the unaided eye occurs. However, in nocase shall application of the coating be delayed more than 4 hafter cleaning.7.2 To achieve a chemical bond of the vin

35、yl coating tometal, the steel wire or welded wire reinforcement will beprimed with appropriate primer as recommended by themanufacturer of the primer and vinyl powder compound.A 933/A933M 0727.3 The coating shall be applied and fully fused in accor-dance with the written recommendations of the manuf

36、acturerof the coating material.8. Requirements for Coated Wire or Welded Wire Fabric8.1 Thickness of Coating:8.1.1 Class AThe film thickness of the coating afterfusing shall be 7 to 17 mils 175 to 425 m for both plain anddeformed steel wire and welded wire fabric used for concretereinforcement. Thic

37、kness measurements below 5 mils 125m shall be considered cause for rejection. The upper filmthickness limits do not apply to repaired areas of damagedcoating.8.1.2 Class BThe film thickness of the coating afterfusing shall be a minimum of 18 mils 450 m, for both plainand deformed steel wire and weld

38、ed wire fabric used for earthreinforcement, such as mechanically stabilized embankments.Thickness measurements below 16 mils 400 m shall beconsidered cause for rejection.8.1.3 A single recorded coating thickness measurement isthe average of three individual gauge readings obtained ap-proximately eve

39、nly spaced along each side of the coated wireor welded wire reinforcement test specimen. A minimum offive recorded measurements shall be taken approximatelyevenly spaced along each side of the test specimen (a minimumof 10 recorded measurements per test specimen). No individualgauge reading shall be

40、 taken closer than 0.5 in 13mm from anintersection8.1.4 For acceptance purposes, the average of all coatingthickness measurements shall not be less than the specifiedminimum thickness or more than the specified maximumthickness. No single recorded coating thickness measurementshall be less than 80%

41、of the specified minimum thickness ormore than 120% of the specified maximum thickness.8.1.5 Measurements shall be made in accordance withSSPC-PA2 following the instructions for calibration and userecommended by the thickness gage manufacturer. Pull-off orfixed-probe gages shall be used. Pencil-type

42、 pull-off gaugesthat require the operator to observe the reading at the instantthe magnet is pulled from the surface shall not be used.8.2 Continuity of Coating:8.2.1 There shall not be more than an average of one holidayper foot three holidays per metre on the coated wire (spooland individual lengt

43、hs).8.2.1.1 If any of these deficiencies occur during the coatingapplication process, they shall be patched in accordance withthe patching material manufacturers written recommenda-tions.8.2.2 In welded wire reinforcement, there shall not be morethan an average of one holiday per foot three holidays

44、 permetre in each wire direction. Voids (uncoated areas due to thefaraday cage effect and weld spurs) at welded intersectionsshall not be counted. Damage at cut ends shall not be counted.8.2.3 Holiday checks to determine acceptability of the wireor welded wire fabric shall be made at the manufacture

45、rs plantwith a 6712-V, 80 000 V, wet-sponge-type d-c holiday detector.NOTE 7Holiday detection is not intended for use at the job site.8.3 Bend TestCoating Requirement:8.3.1 The adhesion of the coating shall be evaluated bybending production coated steel wire and welded wire rein-forcement at a unifo

46、rm rate 180 around a mandrel of specifiedsize as prescribed in Table 1. The test specimens shall be atthermal equilibrium between 68 and 86F 20 and 30C.8.3.2 Cracking or disbonding of the coating on the outsideradius or wrinkling of the coating on the inside radius of thebent wire or welded wire rei

47、nforcement visible to a person withnormal or corrected vision shall be considered cause forrejection of the coated wire or reinforcement represented by thebend test sample.8.4 Place of TestingTesting of coated steel wire or weldedwire reinforcement shall be done at the manufacturers plantprior to sh

48、ipment.8.5 Time of TestingThe requirements for coated wire orwelded wire reinforcement shall be met at the manufacturersplant prior to shipment.9. Number of Tests9.1 The purchaser may specify the sampling and test sched-ule for the number and frequency of tests for coating thickness,adhesion, and co

49、ntinuity.9.2 If the number and frequency of tests are not specified bythe purchaser:9.2.1 Tests for coating thickness and continuity shall bemade at the manufacturers plant on a minimum of 1 linear ft0.3 m of each size wire or welded wire fabric coated fromeach2hofproduction.9.2.2 Bend tests for coating adhesion shall be conducted atthe manufacturers plant on at least one wire of each size or onestyle of fabric from each2hofproduction.10. Retests10.1 If the specimen for coating thickness, continuity, oradhesion fails to m
