Terminology3.1 Definitions of Terms Specific to This Standard:3.1.1 conversion coating, na preparation of the blast-cleaned steel surface prior to coating application that isdesigned to pretreat the metal to promote coating adhesion,reduce metal/coating reactions, imp

18、rove corrosion resistance,and increase blister resistance.3.1.2 disbonding, nloss of adhesion between the fusion-bonded vinyl coating and the steel reinforcement.3.1.3 fusion-bonded vinyl coating, na product containingpigments, thermoplastic vinyl resin, and other additives. It isapplied in the form

19、 of a powder on a clean, heated, metallicsubstrate and fuses to form a continuous barrier coating.3.1.4 holiday, na discontinuity in a coating that is notdiscernible to a person with normal or corrected vision.3.1.5 patching material, na liquid vinyl coating used torepair damaged or uncoated areas.4

20、. Ordering Information4.1 It shall be the responsibility of the purchaser to specifyall requirements that are necessary for material ordered to thisspecification. Such requirements shall include but are notlimited to the following:4.1.1 Name of material (vinyl-coated steel wire or weldedwire reinfor

21、cement),4.1.2 Wire or welded wire reinforcement specification (5.1),4.1.3 Wire size, if wire reinforcement,4.1.4 Wire spacing and sizes, if welded wire reinforcement,4.1.5 Length and width of sheets or rolls,4.1.6 Quantity,4.1.7 Class of coating,4.1.8 Requirements for material samples (5.3),4.1.9 Re

22、quirements for patching material (5.4),4.1.10 Requirements for visual standards for surface clean-ing comparison (6.1),4.1.11 Specific requirements for test frequency (9.1),4.1.12 Requirements for inspection of manufacturing plant(12.1), and4.1.13 ASTM designation and year of issue.5. Materials5.1 P

23、lain or deformed steel wire or welded wire reinforce-ment to be coated shall meet the requirements of one of theapplicable specifications: A82/A82M, A185/A185M, A496/A496M, A497/A497M,orA1064/A1064M as specified by thepurchaser, and shall be free of surface contaminants such as oil,grease, or paint

24、when received at the manufacturers plant andprior to cleaning and coating.NOTE 2Specifications A82/A82M, A185/A185M, A496/A496M,A497/A497M have been replaced by Specification A1064/A1064M.5.2 The coating material shall meet the requirements listedin Annex A1. In addition to the requirements of Annex

25、 A1, thecoating material shall have demonstrated long-term stabilitywhen embedded in concrete.5.2.1 A written certification shall be furnished to the pur-chaser that properly identifies the number of each batch ofcoating material used in the order, material quantity repre-sented, date of manufacture

26、, name and address of manufac-turer, and a statement that the supplied coating material meetsthe requirements of Annex A1.5.3 If specified in the order, a representative 8-oz 0.20-kgsample of the coating material shall be supplied to thepurchaser from each batch. The sample shall be packaged in anai

27、rtight container and identified by batch number.5.4 Patching material for repairing damaged coating shall becompatible with the coating, inert in concrete, and feasible forrepairs at the applicator plant or the fabricating shop. Patchingmaterial shall be approved in accordance with Annex A2 priorto

28、use.5.4.1 The patching material manufacturer shall specify themetals surface preparation and the procedures for applicationof the patching material.5.4.2 If specified in the order, patching material conformingto Annex A2 and recommended by the powder coating manu-facturer shall be supplied to the pu

29、rchaser.NOTE 3When subjected to temperatures above 390F 200C for aprolonged period of time, a vinyl coating is subject to decomposition. Oneof the products of decomposition is hydrochloric acid, HCl, which candamage concrete and reinforcing steel. Even in small amounts, HCl willaccelerate corrosion

30、of steel.NOTE 4Vinyl-coated wire has very low bond strength to concrete, andthe use of deformed wire provides no advantage over plain wire. The bondstrength of vinyl-coated welded wire reinforcement is similar to that ofuncoated plain welded wire reinforcement since the cross wires providethe primar

31、y bond.6. Surface Preparation6.1 The surface of the steel wire or welded wire reinforce-ment to be coated shall be cleaned by abrasive blast cleaning tonear-white metal in accordance with SSPC-SP 10. Additionalsurface treatment, as indicated in 6.3, is permitted. Any of thefollowing visual standards

32、 of comparison shall be used todefine the final surface condition: SSPC-Vis 1, SSPC-Vis 2,NACE TM-01-70, and NACE TM-01-75.Average blast profilemaximum roughness depth readings of 1.5 to 4.0 mils 0.04 to0.10 mm as determined by replica tape measurements usingNACE RP-287-87, shall be considered suita

33、ble as an anchorpattern.NOTE 5Abrasive blast cleaning of wire and welded wire reinforce-ment with a high degree (90 %) of grit in the cleaning media provides themost suitable anchor profile for coating adhesion. After grit has beenrecycled, a small portion will take on the appearance of shot.NOTE 6T

35、al, high-pressure, dry air knives shall beused after blasting to remove dust, grit, and other foreignmatter from the steel surface. The air knives shall not depositoil on the steel reinforcement.NOTE 7It is recommended that incoming wire and welded wirereinforcement and blast media should be checked

36、 for salt contaminationprior to use. Blast media found to be salt contaminated should be rejected.Wire and welded wire reinforcement found to be salt contaminated fromexposure to deicing salts or salt spray should be cleaned by acid washingor other suitable methods to remove salt contaminants from t

37、he surfaceprior to blast cleaning.6.3 It shall be permissible for the manufacturer to use achemical wash or conversion of the blast-cleaned steel rein-forcement surface, or both, to enhance coating adhesion. Thispretreatment shall be applied after abrasive cleaning and beforecoating, in accordance w

38、ith the written application instructionsspecified by the pretreatment manufacturer.7. Application of Coating7.1 The coating shall be applied to the cleaned surface assoon as possible after cleaning, and before oxidation of thesurface occurs discernible to a person with normal or correctedvision. How

39、ever, in no case shall application of the coating bedelayed more than 4 h after cleaning.7.2 To achieve a chemical bond of the vinyl coating tometal, the steel wire or welded wire reinforcement shall beprimed with appropriate primer as recommended by themanufacturer of the primer and vinyl powder co

40、mpound.7.3 The coating shall be applied and fully fused in accor-dance with the written recommendations of the manufacturerof the coating material.8. Requirements for Coated Wire or Welded WireReinforcement8.1 Thickness of Coating:8.1.1 Class AThe film thickness of the coating afterfusing shall be 7

41、 to 17 mils 175 to 425 m for both plain anddeformed steel wire and welded wire reinforcement used forconcrete reinforcement. Thickness measurements below 7 mils175 m shall be considered cause for rejection. The upperfilm thickness limits do not apply to repaired areas of damagedcoating.8.1.2 Class B

42、The film thickness of the coating afterfusing shall be a minimum of 18 mils 450 m, for both plainand deformed steel wire and welded wire reinforcement usedfor earth reinforcement, such as mechanically stabilized em-bankments. Thickness measurements below 18 mils 450 mshall be considered cause for re

43、jection or reclassification asClass A if the thickness meets the Class A requirements.8.1.3 A single recorded coating thickness measurement isthe average of three individual gauge readings obtained ap-proximately evenly spaced along each side of the coated wireor welded wire reinforcement test speci

44、men. A minimum offive recorded measurements shall be taken approximatelyevenly spaced along each side of the test specimen (a minimumof 10 recorded measurements per test specimen). No individualgauge reading shall be taken closer than 0.5 in. 13mm froman intersection.8.1.4 For acceptance purposes, t

45、he average of all coatingthickness measurements shall not be less than the specifiedminimum thickness or more than the specified maximumthickness. No single recorded coating thickness measurementshall be less than 80 % of the specified minimum thickness ormore than 120 % of the specified maximum thi

46、ckness.8.1.5 Measurements shall be made in accordance withSSPC-PA2 following the instructions for calibration and userecommended by the thickness gauge manufacturer. Pull-off orfixed-probe gauges shall be used. Pencil-type pull-off gaugesthat require the operator to observe the reading at the instan

47、tthe magnet is pulled from the surface shall not be used.8.2 Continuity of Coating:8.2.1 There shall not be more than an average of one holidayper foot three holidays per metre on the coated wire (spooland individual lengths).8.2.2 In welded wire reinforcement, there shall not be morethan an average

48、 of one holiday per foot three holidays permetre in each wire direction. Voids (uncoated areas due to thefaraday cage effect and weld spurs) at welded intersectionsshall not be counted. Damage at cut ends shall not be counted.8.2.3 Holiday checks to determine acceptability of the wireor welded wire

49、reinforcement shall be made at the manufac-turers plant with a 6712-V, 80 000 V, wet-sponge-type d-choliday detector.NOTE 8Holiday detection is not intended for use at the job-site.8.3 Bend TestCoating Requirement:8.3.1 The adhesion of the coating shall be evaluated bybending production coated steel wire and welded wire rein-forcement at a uniform rate 180 around a mandrel of specifiedsize as prescribed in Table 1. The test specimens shall be atthermal equilibrium between 68 and 86F 20 and 30C.8.3.2 Cracking or disbonding of th
