3、covers high-strength low-alloy struc-tural steel plate intended for use in welded construction ofnaval ships where a savings in weight mass is important.Plates that conform to this specification offer improved weld-ability, formability, and toughness resulting from the specifiedalloying elements wit

Grades 50 and 65 may be providedas-rolled, control-rolled, thermo-mechanical control processed(including accelerated cooling), normalized, or quenched andtempered as required to meet the specified mechanical require-ments.1.2 The maximum

Heat Treatment5.1 Grade 50 plat
14、es and Grade 65 plates are normally fur-nished without heat treatment. The manufacturer has the optionto normalize or quench and temper such plates to meet themechanical requirements of Section 7 provided that the heattreatment is reported on the test report.5.2 Grade 65 plates greater than 114 in.
15、32 mm in thick-ness shall be furnished in the quenched and tempered heattreatment.6. Chemical Composition6.1 The heat analysis shall conform to the requirementsgiven in Table 1.6.2 If a product analysis is made, it shall conform to therequirements given in Table 1, subject to the product analysistol

Mechanical Properties7.1 Tensile Properties:7.1.1 The plates as represented by the test specimens shallconform to the tensile properties given in Table 2 for theapplicable grade.7.1.2 For quenched and tempered plates, one tension testshall be taken from a corner of
17、 each plate as heat treated.7.1.3 If measured on a 112-in. 40-mm wide specimen (seeFig. 3 of Test Methods and Definitions A370), the elongationmay be determined in a 2-in. 50-mm gage length thatincludes the fracture and shows the greatest elongation.7.2 Charpy V-Notch Impact Properties:7.2.1 Except
18、as allowed by section 7.2.2, Charpy V-Notchimpact tests shall be conducted in accordance with Specifica-tionA673/A673M.All plates shall be tested in accordance withfrequency (P) Piece Testing.7.2.2 The plates as represented by the test specimens shallconform to the impact properties given in Table 3
19、 for theapplicable grade. For Grade 50, the longitudinal axis of thespecimens may be parallel or transverse to the final direction ofrolling of the plate at the option of the manufacturer, unless thetest orientation is specified in the purchase order.7.2.3 For material thicknesses below716 in. 10 mm
20、, theabsorbed energy in Table 3 shall be reduced proportionally inaccordance with Table 1 in Specification A673/A673M forsub-sized Charpy test specimens.8. Report8.1 The manufacturer or processor shall report the results ofall tests required by this specification as identified in Sec-tion 18 of Spec
21、ification A6/A6M.8.2 The manufacturer shall furnish a certification that thematerial has been manufactured and tested in accordance withthe requirements of the material specification.9. First Article InspectionS78.1 The manufacturer shall demonstrate the uniformity ofproperties throughout the plate prior to the initial shipment ofthe order.S78.1.1 Testing shall be conducted on a single plate of themaximum thickness to be supplied to the ord
29、er.S78.1.1.1 Tensile tests shall be conducted on material takenfrom each end of the plate and along both edges near themid-length of the plate (four test locations). One tensile testfrom each area shall be oriented parallel to the direction ofrolling and one tensile test from each area shall be orie
30、ntedtransverse to the principal direction of rolling.S78.1.1.2 Charpy V-notch impact tests shall be conductedon material from each end of the plate and along both edgesnear the mid-length of the plate (four test locations). Impacttests shall be performed at 40F (40C) on one set ofspecimens taken par
31、allel and one set of specimens takentransverse to the principal direction of rolling at each location.S78.1.1.3 The Nil-ductility transition temperature shall bedetermined for the plate in accordance with Test Method E208.S78.2 A first article inspection report shall be prepared andsubmitted to the
32、purchaser prior to shipment of the order.S79. WeldabilityS79.1 Weldability tests shall be conducted.
