30、ormal machining operations.7.5 LengthThe permissible variations in length of cold-worked and hot-worked rod and bar shall be as prescribed inTable 6.7.5.1 Rods and bars ordered to random or nominal lengthswill be furnished with either cropped or saw-cut ends; materialordered to cut lengths will be f
31、urnished with square saw-cut ormachined ends.7.6 Straightness:7.6.1 The permissible variations in straightness of cold-worked rod and bar as determined by the departure fromstraightness shall be as prescribed in Table 7.7.6.2 The permissible variations in straightness of precisionstraightened cold-w
32、orked rod as determined by the departurefrom straightness shall be as prescribed in Table 8.7.6.2.1 In determining straightness in the standard 42-in.(1.07-m) distance between supports or, when specified, indetermining straightness in lengths not in excess of thoseshown in Table 8, the rod shall be
33、placed on a precision tableequipped with ballbearing rollers and a micrometer or dialindicator. The rod shall then be rotated slowly against theindicator, and the deviation from straightness in any portion ofthe rod between the supports shall not exceed the permissiblevariations prescribed in Table
34、8. The deviation from straight-ness (throw in one revolution) is defined as the differencebetween the maximum and minimum readings of the dialindicator in one complete revolution of the rod.7.6.3 The permissible variations in straightness of hot-worked rod and bar as determined by the departure from
35、straightness shall be as specified in Table 9.8. Workmanship, Finish, and Appearance8.1 The material shall be uniform in quality and condition,smooth, commercially straight or flat, and free of injuriousimperfections.9.
