Scope*1.1 This specification establishes requ

3、irements common towrought copper and copper alloy wire and shall apply toSpecifications B16/B16M, B99/B99M, B134/B134M, B159/B159M, B197/B197M, B206/B206M, B272, B301/B301M,B453/B453M, B967/B967M, and B974/B974M to the extentreferenced therein.1.2 The chemical composition, physical and mechanicalpro

4、perties, and all other requirements not included in thisspecification shall be prescribed in the product specification.1.3 UnitsValues stated in either SI units or inch-poundunits are to be regarded separately as standard. Terminology3.1 For defin

Materials and Manufacture4.1 Materials:4.1.1 The materials of manufacture shall be a form (cast bar,billet, rod, etc.) of the copper or copper alloy covered by theproduct specification, of such purity and soundness as t

18、o besuitable for processing into the products required.4.1.2 When specified in the contract or purchase order, thatheat identification or traceability is required, the purchasershall specify the details desired.NOTE 1Due to the discontinuous nature of the processing of castingsinto wrought products,

19、 it is not always practical to identify specific castinganalysis with a specific quantity of finished material.4.2 Manufacture:4.2.1 The material shall be manufactured by such hotworking, cold working, and annealing processes as to producea uniform wrought structure in the finished product.4.2.2 The

20、 product shall be hot or cold worked to the finishedsize, and subsequently annealed when required, to meet thetemper properties specified in the product specification.4.2.3 EdgesThe edges shall be drawn or rolled: refer toDimensions and Permissible Variations section.5. Chemical Composition5.1 The m

21、aterial of manufacture shall conform to thechemical composition requirements prescribed in the productspecification.5.1.1 Results of analysis on a product (check) sample shallconform to the composition requirements within the permittedanalytical variance specified in the product specification.5.2 Th

22、e composition limits established for the CopperAlloyUNS No. designation specified in the product specification donot preclude the presence of other elements. By agreementbetween the manufacturer and the purchaser, limits may beestablished and analysis required for unnamed elements.5.3 When chemical

23、composition has been determined dur-ing the course of manufacture, analysis of the finished productby the manufacturer is not required unless specifically stipu-lated in the contract or purchase order.6. Dimensions and Permissible Variations6.1 GeneralFor the purpose of determining conformancewith t

24、he dimensional requirements prescribed in thisspecification, any measured value outside the specified limitingvalue for any dimension may be cause for rejection.6.1.1 The dimensions and tolerances for products refer-enced to this specification, shall be as noted in the followingparagraphs and tables

25、, where the product specification is notedin the table heading.NOTE 2Blank spaces in the tolerance tables indicate either that theproduct is not generally available or that no tolerances have beenestablished.6.2 Diameter or Distance Between Parallel SurfacesThemethod of specifying wire diameter or d

26、istances betweenparallel surfaces shall be in decimal fractions of an inch or inmillimeters.Tables 1 and 2List the tolerances for diameter or distancesbetween parallel surfaces of wire in round, hexagonal andoctagonal cross sections.6.3 ThicknessThe method of specifying thickness of wireshall be in

27、decimal fractions of an inch or in millimeters.Tables 3 and 4List the thickness tolerances for flat wire inrectangular and square cross sections.6.4 WidthThe method of specifying width shall be indecimal fractions of an inch or in millimeter.Tables 5 and 6List the width tolerances for flat wire inre

28、ctangular and square cross sections.6.5 Length:6.5.1 Round, hexagonal, and octagonal wire shall be fur-nished in coils or reels, consisting of a single length as may beagreed upon between the manufacturer and the purchaser.6.5.2 Flat (rectangular and square) wire when furnished instraight, specific,

29、 or stock lengths shall not exceed the lengthtolerances in Table 7.6.5.3 Stock lengths with short lengths included as specifiedin Table 8 shall be furnished, unless the contract or purchaseorder specifically states stock or specific lengths are required.Table 8Lists the schedule of lengths, specific

30、 or stock,with ends, for flat (rectangular or square) wire furnished instraight lengths.6.6 StraightnessFor flat (rectangular and square) wirefurnished in straight lengths in applicable specifications thedeviation from straightness shall not exceed the limitationsspecified in Table 9.6.6.1 To determ

37、flats.6.7.2 Rounded CornersWhen specified in the contract orpurchase order, flat wire over18 to316 in. 3 to 5 mm,inclusive in thickness may be finished with corners rounded asshown in Fig. 1 to a quarter of a radius of132 in. 1 mm.
