Scope1.1 This specification covers drawn and annealed or soft ro

3、und bare copper wire for electrical purposes (see Explanatory Note1).1.2 The values stated in inch-pound or SI units are to be regarded separately as standard. Each system shall be usedindependently of the other. Combining values from the two systems may result in non-conformance with the specificat

4、ion. Forconductor sizes designated by AWG or kcmil sizes, the requirements in SI units are numerically converted from the correspondingrequirements in inch-pound units. For conductor sizes designation by AWG or kcmil, the requirements in SI units have beennumerically converted from corresponding val

General Requirements (see Section 7)5.1 Tensile Strength and ElongationThe wire shall conform to the requirements for elongation prescribed in Table 1 (seeExplanatory Note 2). No requir

16、ements for tensile strength are specified. For wire whose nominal diameter is more than 0.001 in.(0.025 mm) greater than a size listed in Table 1, but less than that of the next larger size, the requirements of the next larger sizeshall apply.5.2 JointsNecessary joints in the completed wire and in t

17、he wire and rods prior to final drawing shall be made in accordancewith the best commercial practice.5.3 ResistivityThe electrical resistivity at 20C shall not exceed 875.20 lb/mile2 (0.15328 g/m2).5.4 Dimensions and Permissible VariationsThe wire sizes shall be expressed as the diameter of the wire

18、 in decimal fractionsof an inch to the nearest 0.0001 in. (0.001 mm) (0.0025 mm) (or 0.001 mm) (see Explanatory Note 3). For diameters under 0.0100in. (0.2540(0.254 mm), the wire shall not vary from the specified diameter by more than plus and minus 0.0001 in. (0.0025 mm),and for diameters of 0.0100

19、 in. (0.254 mm) and over the wire shall not vary from the specified diameter by more than plus andminus 1 %, expressed to the nearest 0.0001 in. Test Methods6.1 Tensile Strength and ElongationNo test for tensile strength shall be required.6.1.1 The elongation of wire with a nominal diameter greater than 0.0808 in. (2

26、.052 mm) shall be determined as the permanentincrease in length due to the breaking of the wire in tension (see Explanatory Note 4). The elongation shall be measured betweengage marks placed originally 10 in. (242 mm) apart upon the test specimen and expressed in percent of the original length.6.1.2

27、 Determine the elongation of wire whose nominal diameter is larger than 0.0808 in. (2.052 mm) in diameter as thepermanent increase in length, expressed in percent of the original length, due to the breaking of the wire in tension, measuredbetween gage marks placed originally 10 in. (254 mm) apart up

28、on the test specimen (see Explanatory Note 4). The elongation ofwire whose with a nominal diameter is equal to or less than 0.0808 in. (2.052(2.053 mm) and under may be determined asdescribed above or by measurements made between the jaws of the testing machine. When the latter method is used, measu

29、rementsare made between the jaws, the zero length shall be the distance between the jaws at the start of the tension test and be as near10 in. (254 mm) as practicable, and the practicable. The final length shall be the distance between the jaws at the time of rupture.The fracture shall be between ga

30、ge marks in the case of specimens so marked or between the or jaws of the testing machinemachine, depending on method used, and not closer than 1 in. (25.4 mm) to either gage mark or either jaw.6.2 ResistivityDetermine the electrical resistivity of the material in accordance with Test Method B193 (s

31、ee Explanatory Note5). The purchaser may accept certification that the wire was drawn from stock meeting the International Standard for AnnealedCopper instead of resistivity tests on the finished wire.6.3 Dimensional MeasurementsMake dimensional measurements with a micrometer caliper equipped with a

32、 verniergraduated in 0.0001 in. (0.001 (or 0.001 mm). Take measurements on at least three places on each unit selected for this test. Ifaccessible, take one measurement on each end and one near the middle. The average of the three measurements shall determinecompliance with the requirements.6.4 Surf

33、ace FinishMake a surface-finish inspection with the unaided eye (normal spectacles acceptable).7. Conformance Criteria (see Explanatory Note 6)7.1 Any lot of wire, the samples of which comply with the conformance criteria of this section, shall be considered as complyingwith the requirements of Sect

34、ion 5. Individual production units that fail to meet one or more of the requirements shall be rejected.Failure of a sample group from a lot to meet one or more of the following criteria shall constitute cause for rejection of the lot.The conformance criteria for each of the prescribed properties giv

35、en in Section 5 are as follows:7.1.1 ElongationThe lot shall be considered conforming if the average elongation of the four specimens is not less than theappropriate elongation value in Table 1 plus 2.5 percentage points; however any individual production unit, the specimen fromwhich has an elongati

36、on less than the appropriate elongation value in Table 1, shall be rejected.7.1.1.1 The lot shall be considered to have failed to meet the elongation conformance criterion if the average of the fourspecimens is less than the elongation in Table 1 plus 2.5 percentage points and elongation of any of t

37、he individual specimens isless than the value in Table 1.7.1.1.2 If the average of the four specimens is less than the elongation in Table 1 plus 2.5 percentage points and the elongationof each of the individual specimens is equal to or more than the value in Table 1, six additional specimens from s

38、ix productionunits, other than the four originally sampled shall be tested. The lot shall be considered conforming if the elongation of each ofthe ten specimens is not less than the appropriate elongation value in Table 1, and the average of the ten specimens is not less thanthat value plus 2.5 perc

39、entage points. The lot shall be considered to have failed to meet the elongation requirement if any of theten specimens is less than the appropriate elongation value in Table 1 or if the average of the ten specimens is less than that valueplus 2.5 percentage points.7.1.2 ResistivityThe electrical re

40、sistivity of each of the four specimens shall conform to the requirements of 5.3. Failure tomeet these requirements shall constitute failure to meet the resistivity conformance criterion.7.1.3 DimensionsThe dimensions of the first sample (Table 2) shall conform to the requirements of 5.4. Failure to meet this requirement shall constitute failure tomeet the dimensional conformational criterion.7.

44、1.4 Surface FinishThe surface finish of the samples taken in accordance with Table 3 shall conform to the requirements of5.5. The number of units in the sample showing surface defects not consistent with commercial practice shall not exceed theallowable defect number, c, in Table 3. Failure to meet

45、this requirement shall constitute failure to meet the surface-finishconformance criterion.7.1.5 PackagingConformance to the packaging requirements specified by the purchaser shall be determined in accordancewith Table 3. The number of units in the sample showing nonconformance to the requirement sha

46、ll not exceed the allowable defectnumber, c, in Table 3. Failure to meet this requirement shall constitute failure to meet the packaging conformance criterion.8. Density8.1 For the purpose of calculating mass per unit length, cross-sections, etc., the density of the copper shall be taken as 8.89g/cm

47、3 (0.32117 lb/in.3) at 20C (see Explanatory Note 7).9. Inspection9.1 General (see Explanatory Note 6)All tests and inspections shall be made at the place of manufacture unless agreed uponbetween the manufacturer and the purchaser at the time of purchase. The manufacturer shall afford the inspector r

48、epresenting thepurchaser all reasonable facilities to satisfy him that the material is being furnished in accordance with this specification.9.1.1 Unless otherwise agreed upon between the purchaser and the manufacturer, conformance of the wire to the variousrequirements listed in Section 5 shall be

49、determined on samples taken from each lot of wire presented for acceptance.9.1.2 The manufacturer shall, if requested prior to inspection, certify that all wire in the lot was made under such conditionsthat the product as a whole conforms to the requirements of this specification as determined by regularly made and recorded tests.9.2 Inspection and Testing Terms:9.2.1 LotA lot is any amount of wire of one type and size presented for acceptance at one time, such amount, however, notto exceed 100 000 lb (45 000 kg) (see Explanatory Note 8).9.2.2 Sample
