6、ring Information3.1 Orders for material under this specification shall includethe following information:3.1.1 Quantity of each size,3.1.2 Wire size-diameter in inches (see 5.3 and Table 1),3.1.3 Type of copper, if special (see 4.2),3.1.4 Package size (see 10.1),3.1.5 Special packaging marking, if re

7、quired, and3.1.6 Place of inspection (see 7.1).4. Material4.1 Tin for CoatingThe tin used for coating shall becommercially pure (Explanatory Note 1). For purposes of thisspecification, the tin shall be considered commercially pure ifthe total of other elements, exclusive of copper, does notexceed 1%

8、. Notwithstanding the previous sentence, chemicalanalysis of the tin coating or of the tin used for coating shall notbe required under this specification. Adequacy of the tincoating is assured by the continuity of coating and adherence ofcoating requirements (see 5.4 and 5.5, respectively).4.2 Coppe

9、r-Base MetalThe base metal shall be copper ofsuch quality and purity that the finished product shall haveproperties and characteristics prescribed in this specification.NOTE 1Specification B 49 defines copper suitable for use.4.3 Copper bars of special qualities, forms, or types, as maybe agreed upo

10、n between the manufacturer and the purchaser,and which will conform to the requirements prescribed in thisspecification, may also be used.5. General Requirements (See Section 8)5.1 Tensile Strength and Elongation (Explanatory Note 2and Note 3)The tinned wire shall conform to the require-ments for el

11、ongation prescribed in Table 1. No requirementsfor tensile strength are specified. For wire whose nominaldiameter is more than 0.001 in. (1 mil) (0.025 mm) greater thana size listed in Table 1, but less than that of the next larger size,the requirements of the next larger size shall apply.5.2 Resist

12、ivity (Explanatory Note 1 and Note 4)Theelectrical resistivity of tinned wire at a temperature of 20Cshall not exceed the values prescribed in Table 2.5.3 Dimensions and Permissible Variations (ExplanatoryNote 2)The wire sizes shall be expressed as the diameter ofthe wire in decimal fractions of an

13、inch to the nearest 0.0001 in.(0.1 mil) or in millimetres to the nearest 0.0025 mm. 16、 States.tinned wire shall not vary from the specified diameter by morethan the amounts prescribed in Table 3.5.4 Continuity of CoatingThe tin coating shall be con-tinuous. The continuity of coating on the wire shall bedetermined on representative samples taken before stranding orinsulating. The cont

17、inuity of tinning shall be determined by thehydrochloric acid-sodium polysulfide test in accordance with6.4.5.5 Adherence of CoatingThe tin coating shall be firmlyadherent to the surface of the copper. The adherence of coatingon the wire shall be determined on representative samplestaken before stra

18、nding or insulating. The adherence of coatingshall be determined by the wrapping and immersion test inaccordance with 6.5.5.6 JointsNecessary joints in the completed wire and inthe wire and rods prior to final drawing shall be made inaccordance with the best commercial practice.5.7 FinishThe coating

19、 shall consist of a smooth continu-ous layer, firmly adherent to the surface of the copper. The wireshall be free of all imperfections not consistent with the bestcommercial practice.6. Test Methods6.1 Tensile Strength and Elongation (Explanatory Note5)No test for tensile strength shall be required.

20、 The elonga-tion of wire whose nominal diameter is larger than 0.0808 in.(2.052 mm) in diameter shall be determined as the permanentincrease in length, expressed in percent of the original length,due to the breaking of the wire in tension, measured betweengage marks placed originally 10 in. (254 mm)

21、 apart upon thetest specimen. The elongation of wire whose nominal diameteris 0.0808 in. and under may be determined as described aboveor by measurements made between the jaws of the testingmachine. When the latter method is used, the zero length shallbe the distance between the jaws at the start of

22、 the tension testand be as near 10 in. as practicable and the final length shall bethe distance between the jaws at the time of rupture. Thefracture shall be between gage marks in the case of specimensso marked or between the jaws of the testing machine and notcloser than 1 in. (25.4 mm) to either g

23、age mark or either jaw.6.2 Resistivity (Expanatory Note 4)The electrical resistiv-ity of the material shall be determined in accordance with TestMethod B 193. The purchaser may accept certification that thewire was drawn from rod stock meeting the internationalstandard for annealed copper instead of

24、 resistivity tests on thefinished wire.6.3 Dimensional MeasurementsDimensional measure-ments shall be made with a micrometre caliper equipped witha vernier graduated in 0.0001 in. (0.0025 mm). Measurementsshall be made on at least three places on each unit selected forthis test. If accessible, one m

25、easurement shall be taken on eachend and one near the middle. They shall be tagged or markedto correspond with the coil, spool, or reel from which they werecut.6.4.1.2 Treatment of SpecimensThe specimens sh

35、all bethoroughly cleaned by immersion in a suitable organic solventsuch as benzene, ether, or trichloroethylene for at least 3 min;then removed and wiped dry with a clean, soft cloth (Caution-see Explanatory Note 6). The specimens thus cleaned shall bekept wrapped in a clean, dry cloth until tested.

36、 That part of thespecimen to be immersed in the test solution shall not behandled. Care shall be taken to avoid abrasion by the cut ends.6.4.2 Special Solutions Required:6.4.2.1 Hydrochloric Acid Solution (HCl) (sp gr 1.088)Commercial HCl (sp gr 1.12) shall be diluted with distilledwater to a specif

37、ic gravity of 1.088 measured at 15.6C (60F).A portion of HCl solution having a volume of 180 mL shall beconsidered to be exhausted when the number of test specimensprescribed in Table 4 of a size as indicated in 6.4.3 have beenimmersed in it for two cycles.6.4.2.2 Sodium Polysulfide Solution (sp gr

38、1.142) (Ex-planatory Note 7)A concentrated solution shall be made bydissolving sodium sulfide cp crystals in distilled water until thesolution is saturated at about 21C (70F), and adding sufficientflowers of sulfur (in excess of 250 g/L of solution) to providecomplete saturation, as shown by the pre

39、sence in the solutionof an excess of sulfur after the solution has been allowed tostand for at least 24 h. The test solution shall be made bydiluting a portion of the concentrated solution with distilledwater to a specific gravity of 1.142 at 15.6C (60F). Thesodium polysulfide test solution should h

40、ave sufficient strengthto blacken thoroughly a piece of clean untinned copper wire in5 s. A portion of the test solution used for testing samples shallnot be considered to be exhausted until it fails to blacken apiece of clean copper as described above.6.4.3 Procedure:6.4.3.1 Immersion of SpecimensI

41、mmerse a length of atleast 412 in. (114 mm) from each of the clean specimens, inaccordance with the following cycles, in test solutions main-tained at a temperature between 15.6 and 21C (60 and 70F):(1) Immerse the specimen for 1 min in the HCl solutiondescribed in 6.4.2, wash, and wipe dry; (2) imm

42、erse thespecimen for 30 s in the sodium polysulfide solution describedin 6.4.2, wash, and wipe dry; (3) immerse the specimen for 1min in the HCl solution, wash, and dry; (4) immerse thespecimen for 30 s in the sodium polysulfide solution, wash, andwipe dry.6.4.3.2 Washing SpecimensAfter each immersi

43、on, imme-diately wash the specimens thoroughly in clean water and wipedry with a clean, soft cloth.6.4.3.3 Examination of SpecimensAfter immersion andwashing, examine the specimens to ascertain if copper exposedthrough openings in the tin coating has been blackened byaction of the sodium polysulfide

44、. The specimens shall beconsidered to have failed if, by such blackening, exposedcopper is revealed. No attention shall be paid to blackeningwithin 0.5 in. (12.7 mm) of the cut end. A grayish brownappearance of the coating shall not constitute failure.6.5 Adherence of Coating:6.5.1 Specimens:6.5.1.1

45、 Length of SpecimensTest specimens shall be ap-proximately 12 in. (305 mm) in length and shall be tagged ormarked to correspond with the coil, spool, or reel from whichthey are cut.6.5.1.2 Treatment of SpecimensThe specimens shall bethoroughly cleaned, if required, by immersion in a suitableorganic

46、solvent such as benzene, ether, or trichloroethylene forat least 3 min, then removed and dried (Caution-see Explana-tory Note 6). The specimens thus cleaned shall be keptwrapped in a clean dry cloth until tested. That part of thespecimens to be immersed in the test solution shall not behandled. Care

47、 shall be taken to avoid abrasion of the surface tobe subjected to test. Wire of sizes 0.005 in. (0.13 mm) andsmaller may be cleaned after wrapping around the mandrel.6.5.2 Procedure:6.5.2.1 WrappingSlowly wrap the test specimen in asuitable manner in an open helix around a polished mandrelhaving ro

48、unded ends and a diameter not to exceed four timesthe nominal diameter of the specimen. Take care not to stretchthe specimen during the wrapping operation. The spacing ofthe consecutive turns shall be approximately equal to thediameter of the wire. For sizes 0.021 in. (0.53 mm) and smaller,not more

49、than six helical turns shall be used for the test, and forwire larger than 0.021 in., not more than three turns shall beused.6.5.2.2 Immersion TestRemove the helically wrappedportion of the test specimen from the mandrel and immersecompletely in the sodium polysulfide solution (see 6.4.2) for 30s at the temperature prescribed in 6.4.3. On removal from thesodium polysulfide solution, immediately rinse the specimen inclean water and remove the excess by shaking.6.5.2.3 Examination of SpecimensExamine visually theouter peripheral surface of the heli
