In the annealed temper (O61), thepipe is suitable for use in plumbing, boiler feed lines, and forsimilar purposes. In the drawn general purpose temper (H58),the pipe is suitable for architectural applications

Terminology3.1 Definitions:3.

Chemical Composition5.1 The materi

18、al shall conform to the following chemicalrequirements:Copper, % 84.0 to 86.0Lead, max, % 0.05Iron, max, % 0.05Zinc remainder5.2 These specification limits do not preclude the presenceof other elements. Limits for unnamed elements are to beestablished by agreement between manufacturer or supplierand

19、 purchaser.5.2.1 For copper alloys in which zinc is specified as theremainder, either copper or zinc shall be permitted to be takenas the difference between the sum of all the elements analyzedand 100 %.5.2.1.1 When all the elements in the table in 5.1 areanalyzed, their sum shall be 99.8 % minimum.

Temper6.1 All pipe shall normally be furnished in the O61 (an-nealed) (see Classificiation B 601) condition.6.2 In the O61 (annealed) temper, the degree of annealingshall be sufficient to produce complete recrystallization with anaverage grain size not in excess of 0.050 mm. The surface ofthe tes

21、t specimen for grain size determination shall approxi-mate a radial longitudinal section and shall be prepared andexamined in accordance with Test Methods E 112.6.3 The pipe is permitted to be furnished in the H58 (drawngeneral purpose) temper, if agreed upon between the manufac-turer and the purcha

22、ser. (See Table 1.)7. Mechanical Properties7.1 Material in the O61 (annealed) temper specified to meetthe requirements of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Codeonly shall have tensile properties as prescribed in Table 1.7.2 All H58 (drawn general purpose) material shall have thetensile properties

23、as prescribed in Table 1.8. Expansion Test8.1 Specimens in the O61 (annealed) temper shall withstandan expansion of 25 % of the outside diameter when expandedin accordance with Test Method B 153. The expanded pipeshall show no cracking or rupture visible to the unaided eye.Pipe ordered in the drawn

24、(H) condition is not subject to thistest.NOTE 1The term “unaided eye,” as used herein, permits the use ofcorrective spectacles necessary to obtain normal vision.8.2 As an alternative to the expansion test for pipe over 4 in.(102 mm) in diameter in the O61 (annealed) condition, asection 4 in. in leng

25、th shall be cut from the end of one of thelengths for a flattening test. This 4-in. specimen shall beflattened so that a gage set at three times the wall thickness willpass over the pipe freely throughout the flattened part. The pipeso tested shall develop no cracks or flaws visible to the unaidedey

26、e (see Note 1) as a result of this test. In making the flatteningtest the elements shall be slowly flattened by one stroke of thepress.9. Mercurous Nitrate Test9.1 WarningMercury is a definite health hazard andtherefore equipment for the detection and removal of mercuryvapor produced in volatilizati

27、on is recommended. The use ofrubber gloves in testing is advisable.9.2 When the test is required to be performed, the testspecimens, cut 6 in. (152 mm) in length, shall, after propercleaning, withstand an immersion for 30 min without crackingin the standard mercurous nitrate solution prescribed in T

28、estMethod B 154. Immediately after removal from the solution,the specimen shall be wiped free of excess mercury andexamined for cracks.9.3 Product of the O61 (annealed) temper shall pass themercurous nitrate test when tested in accordance with TestMethod B 154.9.3.1 The test need not be performed ex

29、cept when indicatedin the contract or purchase order at the time of placing of theorder.10. Nondestructive Testing10.1 The material shall be tested in the final size but ispermitted to be tested prior to the final anneal or heat treatment,when these thermal treatments are required, unless otherwisea

30、greed upon by the manufacturer or supplier and purchaser.10.2 Eddy-Current TestEach piece of material from18 in.up to and including 212 in. nominal outside diameter or withinthe capabilities of the eddy-current tester, shall be subjected toan eddy-current test. Testing shall follow the procedures of

31、Practice E 243 except for determination of “end effect.” Thematerial shall be passed through an eddy-current testing unitadjusted to provide information on the suitability of thematerial for the intended application.10.2.1 Notch-depth standards rounded to the nearest 0.001in. (0.025 mm) shall be 10

32、% of the nominal wall thickness.The notch depth tolerances shall be 60.0005 in. (0.013 mm).Alternatively, when a manufacturer uses speed insensitiveequipment that allows the selection of a maximum imbalancesignal, a maximum imbalance signal of 0.3 % is permitted tobe used.10.2.2 Material that does n

Material with discontinuities indi-cated by the testing unit is permitted to be reexamined orretested, at the option of the manufacturer, to determinewhether the discontinuity is cause for rejection.

35、 Signals that arefound to have been caused by minor mechanical damage, soilor moisture shall not be cause for rejection of the materialprovided the dimensions of the material are still withinprescribed limits and the material is suitable for its intendedapplication.10.3 Hydrostatic TestWhen specifie

36、d, the material shallstand, without showing evidence of leakage, an internal hydro-static pressure sufficient to subject the material to a fiber stressof 6000 psi (41 MPa), determined by the following equationfor thin hollow cylinders under tension. The material need notbe tested at a hydrostatic pr

(1.5 mm) in wall thickness, thetest is permitted to be made at the option of the manufacturerby pneumatically testing to the requirements of 10.4.10.4 Pneumatic TestWhen specified, the material shall besubjected to an internal air pressure of 6

39、0 psi (415 kPa)minimum for 5 s without showing evidence of leakage. The testmethod used shall permit easy visual detection of any leakage,such as by having the material under water or by the pressure-differential method. Any evidence of leakage shall be cause forrejection.11. Dimensions and Permissi

40、ble Variations11.1 For the purpose of determining conformance with thedimensional requirements prescribed in this specification, anymeasured value outside the limiting values for any dimensionsmay be cause for rejection.11.2 Standard Dimensions, Wall Thickness, and DiameterTolerancesThe standard dim

41、ensions, wall thickness, anddiameter tolerances shall be in accordance with Table 2.11.3 Length and Length TolerancesThe standard length ofred brass pipe is 12 ft (3.66 m) with a tolerance of 612 in. (13mm).11.4 Squareness of CutThe departure from squareness ofthe end of any pipe shall not exceed th

For tubes with a wall thickness to outside diameterratio over 0.05, the roundness tolerance shall be 3 % of thenominal outside diameter.11.5.1 The measurement for roundness shall be made fromthe outside diameter. The deviation from roundness is mea-sured as the difference betwee

44、n the major and minor diametersas determined at any one cross section of the tube. The majorand minor diameters are the diameters of two concentric circlesjust enclosing the outside surface of the tube at the crosssection.11.6 Straightness ToleranceFor pipe of H58 (drawn gen-eral purpose) temper of

45、Nominal Pipe Sizes from14 to 12 in.inclusive, the maximum curvature (depth of arc) shall notexceed12 in. (13 mm) in any 10-ft (3048-mm) portion of thetotal length. For H58 temper pipe of other sizes, and for theO61 (annealed) temper, no numerical values are established,however, the straightness of t

46、he pipe shall be suitable for theintended application.12. Workmanship, Finish and Appearance12.1 The material shall be free of defects of a nature thatinterfere with normal commercial applications. It shall be wellcleaned and free of dirt.13. Sampling13.1 SamplingThe lot size, portion size, and sele
