Construc-tions not included in this specification should be specifically agreed uponbetween the manufacturer and the purchaser when placing the order.NOTE 2For definitions

34、 of terms relating to conductors, referenceshould be made to Terminology B354.NOTE 3The increment of mass or electrical resistance of a completedconcentric-lay-stranded conductor, k, in percent, is:k 5 100 m 2 1!where m is the stranding factor, and is the ratio of the mass or electricalresistance of

35、 a unit length of stranded conductor to that of a solidconductor of the same cross-sectional area or of a stranded conductor withinfinite length of lay, that is, all wires parallel to the conductor axis. Thestranding factor m for the completed stranded conductor is the numericalaverage of the strand

36、ing factors for each of the individual wires in theconductor, including the straight core wire, if any (for which the strandingfactor is unity). The stranding factor, mind, for any given wire in aconcentric-lay-stranded conductor is:mind5 = 119.8696/n2!where n = (length of lay)/diameter of helical p

37、ath of the wire. The derivation of the above as given in NBS Handbook 1003is basedon round wire constructions which are applicable to compacted wireconstructions.NOTE 4Individual wires are not to be unlaid from compact roundconductors for testing purposes. The physical properties of the individualcom

38、pacted wires will be altered by the deformation brought about bycompacting, unlaying, and straightening for test.NOTE 5To test stranded conductors for tensile strength successfully asa unit requires adequate means of gripping the ends of the test specimenwithout causing damage that may result in fai

Various means are available, such as compres-sion sleeves, split sleeves, and preformed grips, but ordinary jaws orclamping devices usually are not suitable.ASTM International takes no position respecting the validity of any patent rights asserted in c
