Temper7.1 The product temper and its properties and characteristicsshall conform to the requirements of the specification underwhich the
17、 pipe was ordered.8. Dimensions, Mass and Permissible Variations8.1 Lengths:8.1.1 The standard lengths and sizes of nipples generallyavailable are shown in Table 2. The availability of such nipplesindicated by pipe size are shown in Table 3.8.1.2 Special lengths and sizes of nipples are permitted to
18、 bespecified when required. Standard and special lengths shallconform to the tolerance requirements of 8.1.3.8.1.3 TolerancesNipples with lengths up through 12 in.(305 mm) long shall have a length tolerance of 6116 in.(1.6 mm). Nipples over 12 in. long shall have a tolerance of618 in. (3.2 mm).8.2 T
19、hreads:8.2.1 Pipe nipples shall be threaded on both ends with NPTTaper Pipe Threads conforming to the requirements of ANSIB1.20.1, except for close nipples where L4 and V are shorter,due to fewer imperfect threads. It is standard manufacturingpractice on all other nipple lengths to vary the L4 6 two
20、threads. All other dimensions, tolerances, and gaging practicesremain the same as ANSI B1.20.1, and the Annex.8.2.1.1 Threads shall be right hand on both ends, exceptwhen otherwise specified.8.2.2 Threads, Chromium-Plated NipplesThreads onchromium-plated nipples shall be gaged after plating. Threads
21、on18 to 1-in. standard pipe size nipples shall be NPT TaperPipe Threads, in accordance with 8.2.1. Threads on 114 to 2-in.standard pipe size nipples shall be short plumbing (hospital)threads, in accordance with Table 1.On18 to 1-in. standardpipe size nipples, short plumbing (hospital) threads, ifspe
22、cified, shall be in accordance with Table 1.9. Workmanship, Finish, and Appearance9.1 End FinishThe ends of the pipe nipples shall bechamfered on the outside at an angle of 35 6 10 to the centralaxis. (It is standard practice that the18-in. nominal size nipplesneed not be chamfered.) Ends shall be c
23、ut reasonably square tothe central axis. All burrs on the outside shall be removed.9.2 Chromium PlatingChromium plate on brass nipplesshall meet the requirements of service condition SC I ofSpecification B456, except the equivalent nickel thicknessshall be 0.003 mm.10. Sampling10.1 Arandom sample of
24、 pipe nipples shall be selected fromone production lot in accordance with MIL-STD-105 at In-spection Level II. In terms of defects per 100 units, theAcceptable Quality Level (AQL) shall be 1.5.10.1.1 Production LotA production lot shall be as deter-mined by the manufacturer, provided that all of the
25、 pipe usedin a single production lot shall comply with the provisions ofSection 5 and all of the nipples shall be of the same size,length, type, weight, finish, and thread form.11. Number of Tests and Retests11.1 Allowances for resampling and retesting shall be inaccordance with the Inspection Level
26、 and Acceptable QualityLevels detailed in 10.1.12. 32、tions 6 and 11 of this specification.B687 99 (2016)213.3 Chromium PlatingUnless otherwise specificallyagreed upon between the manufacturer and the purchaser, theindividual samples need not be individually inspected as totheir chromium plating. It shall be sufficient for the manufac-turer to certify
33、that (a) random nipples from the chromiumplating process have been tested for conformance with Speci-fication B456 (which records shall be retained by the manu-facturer) and do in fact conform and (b) there has been nosignificant change in the chromium plating process since thetests were last run.13
34、.3.1 If inspection of the individual nipples is agreed upon,then it shall be conducted by any method allowed by Specifi-cation B456.13.4 PipeThe pipe from which each production lot ismanufactured shall be of the same size, type, and weight andshall be tested in accordance with the applicable ASTM pi
35、pespecification. At the option of the manufacturer, the pipe maybe tested by the manufacturer, by the pipe mill that producedthe pipe, or by an independent laboratory.13.5 Source InspectionIf required, source inspection ofthe product by the purchaser shall be established by agreementbetween the manu
36、facturer or supplier and purchaser at the timeof placing the order. In such cases, the nature of the facilitiesnecessary for the inspector to determine that the product is inconformance to this specification shall be included in theagreement. The inspection shall be conducted so as not tounnecessari
37、ly interfere with normal operations.14. Rejection and Rehearing14.1 Rejection:14.1.1 Product that fails to conform to the requirements ofthis specification when inspected by the purchaser or purchas-ers agent, shall be subject to rejection.14.1.2 Rejection shall be reported to the manufacturer orsup
38、plier promptly and in writing.14.1.3 In case of dissatisfaction with the results upon whichrejection is based, the manufacturer or supplier is permitted tomake claim for a rehearing.14.2 Rehearing:14.2.1 As a result of product rejection, the manufacturer orsupplier is permitted to make claim for a r
39、etest to be conductedby the manufacturer or supplier and the purchaser. Samples ofthe rejected product shall be taken in accordance with thisproduct specification, and subjected to test by both partiesusing the test methods specified in the product specification, or,alternatively, upon agreement of
40、both parties, an independentlaboratory shall be selected.15. Certification15.1 When specified in the contract or purchase order, thepurchaser shall be furnished certification that samples repre-senting each lot have been tested or inspected as directed in thisspecification and the requirements have
41、been met.16. Test and Inspection Reports16.1 When specified in the contract or purchase order, areport of test and inspection results shall be furnished.17. Packaging and Package Marking17.1 Individual nipples are not normally identified. Nipplespackaged shall have their containers legibly marked to
